Splatoon is Nintendo's unique twist on the shooter genre. Shoot ink on both your friends and environments to win the match! Players can turn into squids and 'swim' through their team's ink color. Players can also use their team's ink color to slow down enemy movement. It's ink or be inked in this chaotic marriage of third person shooters, de Blob, and good ole fashioned paintball.
Nintendo really wants this game to do well. I just got an email from the Swedish Nintendo branch telling me they're going on a national tour (only the three biggest cities, but still) promoting the game with various activities. Can't remember the last time they did something like this over here. Must have been ten years ago or so, when we still had a Club Nintendo of our own that arranged tournaments and stuff.
Reviews are coming out. Mostly positive though the big complaints seem to be lack of enough content and some weird decisions that lock you into staring at screens waiting sometimes.
I've noticed a few reviewers are doing "provisional" reviews because a lot more free content is coming in the near future.
The provisional reviews are actually because they want to make sure the online experience at launch is as smooth as what they got pre-release, before scoring the game.
Some lessons learned from Battlefield 4 and SimCity.
Ah. The one I read mentioned it right after mentioning all of the upcoming free content and how it is tough to review it right now so... I made the connection.
I think I'll be on/around Friday Night. Possibly earlier around dinner? Depends how I feel that day (physically, EMOTIONALLY) after hunting Amiibos all morning. I sense great sadness.
The positive reviews (especially Jim Sterling's) are moving the needle in my hype meter back into the "must have day one" zone and out of the "wait for more maps later" zone.
I get (and I don't get) people wanting more maps on shooter-type games. I don't care how many stages GoldenEye has, I'd want to play License to Kill Proximity Mines in the Facility every single time. How many Battle Courses did you like doing in Mario Kart 64?
@deathly_hallows Nice to hear Sterling's liking it. I've watched so many of his Early Access/Steam Greenlight videos that I've almost started to think he's in a perpetual state of disappointment and frustration.
@r_hjort He loves Blooddborne therefore he's good people. But yeah his war against Steam Early Access seems to be driving him a little crazy.
@Mr_Mustache I'm the MTV generation man, my attention span is like 4 milliseconds long, I need to be constantly seeing and doing new stuff or I get bored.
Did the US copy of Mario Kart 64 have the Skyscraper speed glitch too? There's probably more to this than what I describe, but every time we'd go for a three-player battle on that level the speed of the game would go up something insane, and we'd have a hard time keeping from falling off.
