So, how are you liking this game? I think it's fun. I'm playing it in small doses. I'm on battle 42 of about 159 (for now). I already got the Mew from a special event, too. I haven't captured all the pokemon I have battled. I'm focusing on moving forward and then coming back to catch them all. I AM making exceptions for those pokemon I can actually Mega Evolve.

By the way, how does this game compare to Pokemon Trozei? I haven't played that one.

Caught Genesect! Splurged 12500 coins on a Mega Start, Disruption Delay and a complexity, and beat it with 18 seconds remaining and a 31 % catch rate- 1st attempt caught, No great balls required. That's every Pokemon available! Whee!

(30,000 + coins still in the kitty and 12 jewels in hand...)

Now I just need to complete 6 S-ranks for the main stages:

Mega Gengar
Onix
Timburr
Mega Aerodactyl
Snorlax
Steelix

I suppose I could try and S-rank the expert stages as well, but honestly, fuck it.

@Jargon

It'll be a bit while longer since I did spend some coins last night, I'm a little under 90,000 again but for the sake of science I shall attempt that feat!

@Shadowlink

Yeah no thank you on that 'trick'. Doesn't do much for me.

Oh and I've got 93,680 coins. Working towards that 100,000!
05/22/15, 03:05
@DrFinkelstein

Is it me or is that a low amount of participants compared to past competitions. People may be moving on from this game.
05/22/15, 03:19
@Jargon

It's definitely low. We'd have easily hit the 100,000s by now. The growth is about 10,000 a day too which is strange. There was that spike initially on the first day but it's been low indeed. This means a greater overall percentage of folks should be able to succeed given that Nintendo opened up the goal posts a bit too.

I think people might be moving on though. In a sense, I wonder why I'm even playing (though I am having some level of fun). I have a slew of great Pokemon. I've gotten through the 'main game' and the only one I haven't beaten/caught so far is the Expert 21 level. When is the game done? When I say it is or when Nintendo does?
05/22/15, 04:25
@DrFinkelstein

Yea I'm assuming there'll be a point pretty soon when I have all the Pokemon and S-Ranks and I won't play the game except when new content is released and there's competitions.
05/22/15, 04:32
Could also be because it's a repeat competition- Not everyone is bothering.
05/22/15, 10:06
@Shadowlink

In theory only those who won previously would want to omit themselves, no? Still feel like it should be a bit higher. The last time we did Mega Lucario there were over 200,000 in the U.S. doing it. That was right at launch though.

----------------------

Spiritbomb Report
First Attempt I had 8 moves left. 29% capture rate. No dice. Great balled it. No dice. 2nd great ball worked though! Caught!

Dropped 532 spots. Participants grew 3,541. This is the last I'll report since I am going away for the weekend and it won't be easy to post about it like that (With all the copy/paste, formatting, etc) At this rate I should be well within the 30,000 anyway with that simple initial shot. Jargon I believe was just above or below me at the time I saw his last score so he's probably good too.

@DrFinkelstein

I'm still in the top 2,000 from my kickass attempt on Monday. I'll be fine.
05/22/15, 13:26
I'm just leveling up my characters so I can beat level 189. I'm played the Lucario level once so I could get the two gems, and that's it.
05/25/15, 02:52
I unlocked Genesect. Used every power up on it. Still only finished with 7 seconds left. Then still only had a 1% catch rate. What. THE. Fuck.
05/25/15, 02:57
@DrFinkelstein

That would have included the +10 seconds power up, right?

Like the + 5 move powerup, it won't affect your catch rate. So your 7 second finish time was actually -3 seconds, hence your 1% catch rate.

Time powerup's aren't really worth it unless you're going for S-ranks for some reason.
05/25/15, 05:10
@Shadowlink

Ah, very good. That's why. I forgot that was a powrrup. Damn then. So I had all bonuses and still didn't technically finish on time. It's sick how hard this guy is.

Do we have any tips I may have missed earlier for him?

Oh, and with 2 hours and 20 min left... I have a score of 12,407 out of 120,294. So I'm easily doing fine here. Two new jewels for me in the AM. I'm still in the top 11%. Kinda nice how this time around one simple try netted me that.

What do you guys use jewels on anyway? I've bought coins in the past, and may again here with 12 jewels for max coinage, but I can also slowly grind for cash, so what else are they good for?
05/25/15, 05:39

@DrFinkelstein

Hearts if you want a pile of spare turns I guess. The only other thing to spend them on is an emergency 5 turns/10 seconds if you fail a level. Totally not worth it, as you can tell by comparing the minimal price of the power up that does the same thing with the 3K cash in reward for a jewel.

Sorry to say I accidentally pressed the wrong thing once and cashed in jewel for just that whilst grinding Ampharos. Didn’t even get a second-chance screen, game used it gleefully whilst I was screaming “ABORT, ABORT!!!”

My original plan back at the beginning was to save up for a stash of 24 jewels, then cash 12 in on both sides for ridiculous coinage and ridiculous hearts. I did cash in 6 in for coins early on in order to obtain emergency funds to buy the Complexity that snared me the Lucarionite in the first contest, I then continued to squirrel them away as per the original plan to get to 24.

Since I’ve mostly cleared the game though, it’s clear that the game probably drip-feeds you enough hearts- If you were to (in theory) neglect sleep, work, life in general, you can get around 50 hearts a day (5 at the start + 48 for each half hour.) Plenty of attempts. Not only that, but whilst your heart stash remains above 5, you’re not going to get any new ones as time goes by until you work through them, unlike the coins which you can keep stocking up on.

Coins however only get doled out to you at a rate of 500 once per day. So if you look at it from a time conversion perspective:

12 Jewels = 80 Hearts = 1.66 days to obtain (Assuming constant usage)
12 Jewels = 48,000 coins = 88 days to obtain (Assuming daily check in)

Even if you (theoretically) spent all 80 hearts on a perfect 530 coin Meowth grinding session, you’d still only end up with 42,400 coins. At best. And you’d go crazy.

So, yeah TL;DR- Spend them on coins . I (should) have 14 this afternoon once I get home and received my anticipated 2 gem competition reward. I’m basically saving them for an emergency cash injection, should I ever need one. I suppose they might be used for something else down the line- Maybe trading in at the store for evolution stones? Who knows. Regardless, I’m saving ‘em until I need ‘em.

BTW, who were you using for Gensect? I subbed in Mega Ampharos instead of Aerodactyl. Might not have done double damage, but the mega ability is still pretty strong, plus it lays waste to the disruptions when they show up.
05/25/15, 07:34
@Shadowlink

Used Mega Gengar. Don't think it was the best choice but I read he would be good.
05/25/15, 10:39
#4009! Whoooo. Not too shabby. And a free complexity. Nice.

Shaymin's a bit tricky. Oh well. Once more unto the breach.

EDIT: There we go. Sneaky jerk.

Got my Lucarionite. Now I feel complete again. Ranked #14,000 something. Not too bad considering I only tried it a handful of times.

I was surprised to see no new levels. Maybe because of the holiday in the US?

I've only got Genesect to catch. I suppose I'll use that Complexity -1 they gave me on him, after I practice some to get used to his disruptions and such.
05/25/15, 11:54
@Jargon

I forgot to tell you. Coins do max out at 99,999. Now I forever have a 9 at the end of my coinage.

Also, I received my two jewels with a 13,123rd place finish.

Got the 2 Jewels, I've caught Shaymin, caught all of the Dailies, so I'm back to trying to catch and S-rank everything that's left for me.

Still to catch:
Snorlax
Quilladin
Steelix
Blaziken
Xerneas
Mewtwo
Genesect (still have to unlock Genesect)

Still to S rank:
Mega Mawile
Mega Ampharos
Mega Glalie
Mega Gengar
Skarmory
Heracross
Mega Mewtwo
Onix
Bagon
Milotic
Drilbur
Timburr
Pupitar
Mega Aerodactyl
Duosion
Snorlax
Granbull
Frogadier
Gurdurr
Quilladin
Braixen
Steelix
(and all of the Experts except for Absol, Rotom, and Swampert)

I guess I'm going to have to finally start spending some coins on these levels.
05/25/15, 19:48
@DrFinkelstein

Good to know! I'll be there at 99,999 in short order and then it will be time to take on Genesect and get the remaining S ranks, if possible.
