Welcome to the official discussion thread for Splatoon on the Wii U!
To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!
Splatoon is Nintendo's unique twist on the shooter genre. Shoot ink on both your friends and environments to win the match! Players can turn into squids and 'swim' through their team's ink color. Players can also use their team's ink color to slow down enemy movement. It's ink or be inked in this chaotic marriage of third person shooters, de Blob, and good ole fashioned paintball.
I will happily play more that Saturday night. I will be in Indiana but my Wii U will be with me. I'll very likely take more data down for my earlier analysis thread. Can't freaking wait!
So a photo of Splatoon's disc art has been released. Click on the image to see it un-blurred. Not that this is really a spoiler kind of thing but you know, opening up a game case and seeing the disc for the first time has it's perks.
Looks like it'll be 8 AM on Sunday for me. Definitely doable, but we'll see if I have things going on Saturday night that might make me not want to get up that early.
I read an EDGE article/interview about Splatoon with the Directors. It was pretty interesting. Seems like the Single-player will have lots of unique stuff that hasn't yet appeared in multi. And the lack of voice chat WAS, indeed, caused by the director's experience with horrible, offensive online players and his desire to create a more approachable multiplayer experience which is free from that. I can respect that. Because it really IS a turnoff. Some might say that we should still have the OPTION to use it, but playing with randos on Xbox Live has shown me that most people who choose that option will be racist 12-year-olds from the Southern section of the United States. And Splatoon has made several UI strides towards not needing as much communication. In Turf War, at least, you have a constant visual of the entire level which gives you most of the information you'd need.
I still think that Friends should be able to chat, probably. Especially in the upcoming 4v4 team mode.
The first review of this I've read is...well, not OUT yet, but it's from NF Magazine. In case you guys were on the fence, Lucas really enjoyed the game.
@TriforceBun When do the reviews get released into the wild? This week? How did he feel about the "out-of-the-box" content and is he confident in the "coming soon" content?
I probably can't say a ton since the mag isn't out yet, but he felt there was ample content from the get-go and looks forward to the upcoming game modes. Had very high praise for both the multi (as expected), but also the single-player as well, and Splat Zones is apparently fun and very intense.
Not sure why reviews haven't gone public with this one yet. I'm pretty sure it'll do quite well overall, although I can see reviewers docking some missing features (personally, I still wish there was co-op 2P local a la Smash, and/or bots!).
Just pre-ordered the game off of Amazon.ca. The game had apparently lowered 7$ in price over night and they also added a 10% off of pre-orders promotion for the rest of May so I ended up saving around 15$ off of the regular price and that includes the release date shipping too! Pretty happy on that with game prices having been raised in Canada. I just hope it actually gets here Friday though. My last order never got here on the actual release date and had to wait a few extra days before it even got here.
Yeah I thought about doing that. I just always worry that for some reason, the bar code would be different and wouldn't be recognized upon returning it
Can't tell if it is actually a high quality bonus or not. I'll stick with Amazon but if I have to buy it from a store for some reason, I'll go with Target.
