Amiibo Tap! It's the new sensation that is apparently NOT sweeping the nation! But I think it's pretty cool. Tapping my Mario to the old Wablet unlocked key scenes in the original Metroid (perhaps my favorite game of all time). It was a blast from the past, man. And when they say "Greatest Bits", they aren't kidding. All of the boss fights were included (and fully beatable within the three-minute time limit), along with the beginning of the game and the first Metroid encounter. The only important scene missing was the escape sequence. Maybe they didn't want to spoil it? Even though they spoiled everything else?

I dunno. Regardless, I found the whole thing to be surprisingly exciting. This is actually going to motivate me to finally open my Samus and Toon Link figures. Crossing my fingers for Donkey Kong, Jr.! And Mach Rider! I haven't played that game in... a really long time.

Can't say I care much about this as a hardcore Nintendo fan. I've most likely played all of the classics these introduce you to and for those that I haven't, well it's probably because I'm either not interested or they're not very good.

Also as a word of warning, I've heard that doing this eliminates whatever Smash data that you may have on your amiibo so beware.

I too was pleasantly surprised when my Kirby amiibo unlocked Zelda 1, with most of the bosses available to fight. It's not gonna make me grab more amiibos, but it's definitely a cool extra.

Unless that's some sort of glitch, I don't think Amiibo Tap/Touch and Play deletes anything Smash related. My Amiibos have kept all their Smash data, anyway. I've been under the impression that this app just registers the type, name and owner of the Amiibo, not actually storing anything on the figurine.

Yeah, I don't think it writes to the Amiibo.

Maybe it's due to the game and choice of scenes, but the Super Mario Bros. unlocked by my lone amiibo is pretty underwhelming.

9 scenes: 1-1, 2-1, 2-1, 3-1, 4-1, 5-1, 6-1, 7-1, 8-1, 8-4.

No imagination. No point.

That's a pretty good spread! You might even be able to see the whole game that way.

Super Mario Bros. is probably the least necessary title, since we've all played it 10,000 times. But there's a certain charm to jumping straight to a certain section of a game. It was pretty fun to do boss rushes in Super Metroid and Link to the Past. I had forgotten how great the bosses in LttP were!

By the way, if you erase your Amiibo Tap save data, you can get different titles with the same Amiibo(s). I kept switching for a while, trying to get Donkey Kong Jr. and Mach Rider, but it only cycled between SMB, SMW, Zelda I, LttP, Metroid, Super Metroid, Kirby's Adventure, and Kirby Superstar. I guess the less-popular titles are gated behind having more Amiibos, to limit getting a potentially underwhelming game. Or maybe they think that just having a three-minute taste of Mach Rider would be enough for most people, so they make it harder to access? I dunno.

I don't think Amiibo Tap is for anyone posting on this forum.

...except Anand apparently. You should just get NES Remix!

I did! With my Club Nintendo points. It's pretty sweet.

Honestly, I wasn't that excited about Amiibo Tap, based on the description. But I find the implementation to be pretty fun and toylike. Much better than the Masterpieces in Smash.

I'd probably rather have had Nintendo Championship-esque score attack segments with leaderboards, but it's still cool.

And, who knows, maybe the NES Remix guys are already working on that.

@Anand Hmm, I'd gladly erase the data and keep trying for Kirby's Dream Course (gotta see which parts made "Nintendo's Greatest Bits"!) but I only have the single Amiibo, and if you can only get the popular games with one...

Well, that was my experience. I probably erased the save file 10 to 15 times and scanned three Amiibos each time.

I stopped after getting Superstar, LttP, and Kirby's Adventure.

I tried this out only because I have a Samus Amiibo and have never used her for anything. It unlock Metroid coincidentally. There was the (1) beginning of the game, the (2) Kraid fight, the (3) Ridley fight, (4) Tourian when you fight Metroids and finally the (5) Mother Brain fight.

And now I'll never use this software again.
