Yeah the bowgun weapons are pretty great. I personally like the Light bowgun because of the rapid fire and elemental shots. I like the Bonus shot skill and Loading for the Light Bowgun. Loading gives one extra shot to all the ammo your bowgun can load. It helps with the capacity. Bonus shot adds a extra shot to the rapid fire volley.

In other news I last night with some help beat my urgent to move up to HR6!

@NinTemple_Maxi Congrats!

Last night I got HR4. So far doing majority of stuffs solo. Gonna see how far I can get before I require online assistance. I have a bunch of folks at my job who also have the game, so that's always great for Streetpasses.

@Cryojin

Thank you! I also just made it to High Rank offline so 7 star quests. Should have a easier time getting hard to get parts now.

But yeah it was around HR 4 that I needed some help and I couldn't solo everything or take a long time to do without making new armor.

I'm gonna start doing some of these inherited quests from my StreetPasses. Hopefully I'm not too under-prepared for them...!

Yeah they can be tough at times. Looks like this months DLC is up. April DLC

StreetPass Challenges are hard. That's all I'm saying. Man. I need better equipment.

Took down a Great Jaggi for an actual Quest today. And...I have a question.

Several times during the hunt, the monster would limp away and crawl into a cave and hide out for a while. I couldn't stop him, and each time he came back out, he seemed stronger and I had to whittle away his health again. The first time that happened it was mildly annoying, but by the third time, it was starting to piss me off.

Is there any way to stop monsters from slinking away into a cave and basically making quests artificially last twice as long as they normal would have?

Really the best way is to tag them with a paintball so you know where they head off to. Plus, you'll eventually learn which area monsters tend to favor when they go to rest. With some monsters, you'll get a tell when they are about to start limping. Sometimes after they get up from being knocked down, or are done doing certain attacks, you'll see them turn very slowly to any specific direction. If you can catch that quickly enough, you can run ahead and flash bomb them before they get to their escape point, and further impede them by placing a trap in front of them while they're blinded.

According to the latest NW March Madness thread, Monster Hunter 4 probably SUCKS compared to Simon's Quest.
(At least thats what the vocal minority on NW would have you believe..)

Go save Monster Hunter Tri, please..

@GameDadGrant
Capture them once they start limping. I'll need someone to confirm for MH4U, but I think you can end hunt quests early by capturing. All you need is a couple of Tranq Bombs and a pitfall/shock trap.

Yeah paintballing a monster right when you see them is very helpful to keep track of Large monsters. The paintball marker does go after a while so you need to paintball them again when it wears off. A few other skills like Auto Tracker and support Palicos have a way of showing the Large monsters. And for capturing a good skill is Capture Guru. When the monster is ready for capture and you have them paintballed then the painball will will flash on the bottom screen.

Well the other day I made it up to G Rank in the Gathering Hall with lots of help and I am HR 64 or something now. I am up to 7 star quests offline with the caravan quests. I can't believe all the content this game has and am happy to play with others.
04/10/15, 22:20
Hmm, okay. Yeah, I used a couple of those "stun grenade" things, but it didn't help all that much. It stunned a bunch of the other, smaller Jaggi around him, but the Great one must've not been looking at it when the flash went off....

I'll look into capturing monsters later. I'm trying to just keep my head above water by killing them off as quickly as possible. (not sure if that's a good strategy?) My weapons seem to dull really fast and using a whetstone takes forevveeeeerrrrrrrrr.

Hey, any way to boost stamina? I seem to lose that a lot.
04/10/15, 23:25
@GameDadGrant To go with what was already said, it sounds like it went off to sleep somewhere. If you don't disrupt its sleep before it finishes and wakes up on its own, it may regain some strength. So you've got to find it and attack it during its sleep.

As for stamina, use the rations in the supply box. At the beginning, you can eat 2 to max out the bar. If you're not sure how big your stamina bar currently is, you can view your status from the menu to see it in number form, with 150 stamina being the max bar. There are other items you can make to increase the bar, such as cooking steak with the BBQ spit, or combining certain items to make stuff like energy drink or dash juice.

You know game the whole Seregios shows up on every quest just to fuck with you phase of single player got really old really fast.

I had a sleeping Stygian Zinogre, put down a trap, and right as I'm about to wake him up and lure him over for the tranq Seregios swoops in and sets off the trap.

I'm saying it now, Seregios should have been this gens counterpart to Jho because he is really good at that job of showing up and trying to ruin your day while you try to hunt something else.

Maybe have him show up on capture quests and try to kill the monster you're capping, that would be interesting.

@GameDadGrant

Might I ask what armor you currently have? Some armor have negative/red skills which make the stamina lower quicker than usual. But yeah eating before your hunt at the Cantena can boost your HP,stamina, defense, attack and elemental resistances depending on what you eat.
04/11/15, 00:52
@Mop it up

Yeah, I think it did go to sleep or whatever to regain his health. The problem was, I couldn't get to where he was! He was in a cave, and the game wouldn't let me chase after him. Or flush him out somehow. I got frustrated fairly quick.

@NinTemple_Maxi

Oh, I didn't know you could eat first, THEN go hunt! I thought you had only got to eat what you had in your box after you start a quest. Huh.

As for my armor, I'm currently wearing:

Bone Kris+
Derring Headgear
Derring Jacket
Derring Belt
Derring Trousers
(None)

Pretty basic stuff....

All the caves go to another area so you would have to check nearby areas to see if you can find where the monster is sleeping. One thing to keep in mind is that in every area there is an usual resting place where they go to heal up HP a little. It is different for every monster but if you learn where they go then you can head to that area once you see them limping,leaps,digs or flies to another area and capture, set bombs or just hit it with your strongest attack. Try and make a full armor set so the skills activate. Typically having 10 points in one skill activates the skill having -10 would have a negative effect.
04/11/15, 02:28
@GameDadGrant It's weird, but going into a cave like that is just the way some monsters switch areas. You may not be able to enter the place they use to leave, but they're still in an area you can access. You'll just have to go a longer way around. This is where marking it with a paintball comes in handy, as then you'll be able to see where it went on the map.
