Welcome to the official discussion thread for Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U!

Through all the stories and all the timelines found in the Zelda series... nobody saw this coming. Koei Tecmo and Nintendo team up to take the Dynasty Warriors formula, toss in a lot of Zelda-franchise fan service, and blend that stuff together in a funky mish-mash of Zelda lore that only the Wind Fish could dream up. That game is called Hyrule Warriors.

I was admittedly hesitant on this title upon first announcement. I had no idea what the Dynasty Warriors franchise was all about. I knew I loved Zelda. It wasn't until the excellent Nintendo Direct (embedded below) which sold me on the idea. I'm seeing a lot of reviews, which started coming in today, and they seem to agree that this isn't much of a Zelda game. I have to point out, the name borrows the Warriors from Dynasty Warriors and not Zelda. This alone helps me see what Koei Tecmo and Nintendo were aiming for. This isn't going to be a Zelda main-line game nor is it striving to be. For what it's goals are, and for what Nintendo has contributed to it, I'm pretty excited myself and now there's less than 10 days remaining. The game releases on September 26th, 2014.

Fun Facts
1.) Sends Link and 12 other playable characters from various Zelda universes into other universes. Mixing things up!
2.) Loaded with various locales, enemies, bosses, items, and music from throughout the Legend of Zelda series.
3.) Series offers plenty of DLC options (detailed below).
4.) Tons of combos and special moves for each character.
5.) 2-player Co-Op (though I hear it's pretty hard on the Wii U processing)
6.) Unique 'Adventure Mode' taking players back into the NES' The Legend of Zelda for a mix of challenges and adventure! (at least on the map)

@TriforceBun

It would be nice if I could even progress that far, haha!

Most of my paths in that direction are blocked by "magic" that has made the enemy invisible. I'm working on it, though.

Managed to beat this one challenge at 29:15 with 30 minutes being the cutoff time for an A rank. Then I unlocked a challenge that's even harder... these are rough! Thankfully they don't seem to count in your damage taken.

@TheOldManFromZelda

I'm not over there yet either. Tough sleddin'!

@VofEscaflowne

Is there a good rule of thumb (clued in or tied to specific challenges or restrictions) to know when they are and aren't scoring a particular category? I always knock down 1200 unless its obvious I don't have to, but sometimes I'm so careful about not getting hit..only to find out it didn't matter. Blah.

Maaaan, I can't progress in the Master Quest at all. All of the stages are blocked by "enemies need to be revealed" junk. The stages I CAN play, I can't get an A rank on. This stiiiiiinks.

@Mr_Mustache

I can't think of any challenge off of the top of my head that doesn't rank the speed/damage/kills criteria as part of an A ranking in the adventure mode aside from the obvious ones. As for the challenge mode, every level does show rankings now prior to starting them. I haven't noticed if the rankings shown only show the requirements needed for an A rank.

Keep your eye out -- or I guess I will. Maybe by process of REPORTING to each other, we can be like "Ok, these missions don't require it." I don't like looking stuff up. I don't think we should!

@TheOldManFromZelda

You can't worm your way over to a harp or a whistle anywhere? Show me your MAP.

What levels are your guys at? It could simply be a level thing.. I believe in youuuu.
(When do you want to team up!? LETS KNOCK DOWN SOME A's!)

Alright, only KOs and Clear Time required on Fi's 8-bit on Master Quest in the Graveyard. Challenge is 'No Guarding!' where you have to 'defeat the enemy forces.' Theories? I'm gonna dig around for another 'no guarding' and see how that scores me..

EDIT- Sweet, just ran the one 1 spot east of where you start, and only got graded on KOs and Clear Time again. Picked up a bonus 1200 Skulltula while I was in town. Solid!

Plowed through some Adventure Mode yesterday and got Agitha. FINALLY. I guess I'll stay on that path to the Zant Zone. If at the very least I end up unlocking all the characters, I'm cool with that.

@TheOldManFromZelda

I think you'll get through there no problem. I think you only need Bronze for Characters and Costumes, so thats cool!

I also did a Twilight Map, and boy, that was tough. The second map stage with Midna is terrible. The Gibdos take so long to kill. It's just obnoxious.

@TheOldManFromZelda

I still gotta start on that S. Majora's Mask map, too. Maybe Sunday Night? Next Friday? I don't know. I gotta bake a cake for it, because its gonna be a parrrrtay!

I'd ideally like to knock off ALL of the Legend stuff first, but those Hard Skulltulas are really digging in my craw lately. I'm satisfying everything they ask me to, yet it the darn things don't appear. I'm not stupid, I know how to read..so whats the deal??
03/21/15, 09:35
@Mr_Mustache thank god, the whole A-rank for weapons stuff is getting real old real fast.

Meanwhile my first run through of Wizzro's rack up KO's map got me a ring with a 4000x hidden skill. Let's see what we can get there.

Sooo, when using my Splatoon Smash Bros. DLC code yesterday, I noticed on the Download Management screen that there was a whole Smash Bros. update, AS WELL AS an update for Hyrule Warriors. Mehr?!

Did the Smash Bros. stuff (blah blah blah), and when I did the Hyrule Warriors one, it said something along these lines:

"With the announcement of Hyrule Warriors for 3DS, we're celebrating by giving link a Classic Tunic!

Furthermore, owners of both games can import heroes from the 3DS game to the Wii U version."

My stomach dropped, and my blood began to boil. Maybe this was already talked about in a solid fashion? I know there was some ideas being kicked around with possible DLC after the 3DS game releases, but I was wholly unaware of this actual update/message. Thoughts?

--OH, and the Classic Tunic is straight out of the NES instructions illustrations. Pretty neat!

How is the multiplayer in this game? If I got it, would Amanda and I be able to play through the campaign together?
07/10/15, 06:57
@PogueSquadron
I believe you've got a pretty decent graphics hit in multiplayer and probably some framerate issues but I believe the entire game is co-op.
07/10/15, 07:02
@PogueSquadron
It's a good game and the multiplayer is functional and can be good strategic fun. But you have to keep two things in mind:

1) One player uses the GamePad, which means the other has to use a Wiimote + Nunchuck if you don't have a Pro Controller. The Nunchuck control scheme is pretty bad and can only be tweaked slightly--all control options using it use Wiimote swinging for attacks, which is excessive and unnecessary.

2) The visuals and framerate take a big drop with 2P. We're talking Wii U quality down to Dreamcast quality.

If you can get past those two issues, it's actually good fun.
07/10/15, 07:48
@PogueSquadron

Coop with a pro controller is the best way to play. It's a shame that the graphics take such a huge dip, but it's worthwhile if you can get past that.
07/10/15, 07:52
Hmm. I'll think about it at some point. I wish Amanda and I could play Splatoon together but it looks like we'll just be taking turns.

No classic controller pro support?

Good luck on the 2p stuff. I wanted to play with Nikki but never go to. And yeah, you don't want to be swinging your remote about 1500 times, I can promise you that.

--When is the 3DS game releasing? I'm gonna keep an eye on the Wii U game for some DLC, and I'm curious when I should start looking hard. I still have a lot to do in this game though..maybe I should worry about that first.
07/11/15, 05:57
I've checked out video and yeah, it does seem to take a big dive in 2p. I'd get this game if it gets lower in price, but Splatoon and Batman are doing a good job of sucking up all of my free time.
