Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U

Welcome to the official discussion thread for Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U!

Through all the stories and all the timelines found in the Zelda series... nobody saw this coming. Koei Tecmo and Nintendo team up to take the Dynasty Warriors formula, toss in a lot of Zelda-franchise fan service, and blend that stuff together in a funky mish-mash of Zelda lore that only the Wind Fish could dream up. That game is called Hyrule Warriors.

I was admittedly hesitant on this title upon first announcement. I had no idea what the Dynasty Warriors franchise was all about. I knew I loved Zelda. It wasn't until the excellent Nintendo Direct (embedded below) which sold me on the idea. I'm seeing a lot of reviews, which started coming in today, and they seem to agree that this isn't much of a Zelda game. I have to point out, the name borrows the Warriors from Dynasty Warriors and not Zelda. This alone helps me see what Koei Tecmo and Nintendo were aiming for. This isn't going to be a Zelda main-line game nor is it striving to be. For what it's goals are, and for what Nintendo has contributed to it, I'm pretty excited myself and now there's less than 10 days remaining. The game releases on September 26th, 2014.

Fun Facts
1.) Sends Link and 12 other playable characters from various Zelda universes into other universes. Mixing things up!
2.) Loaded with various locales, enemies, bosses, items, and music from throughout the Legend of Zelda series.
3.) Series offers plenty of DLC options (detailed below).
4.) Tons of combos and special moves for each character.
5.) 2-player Co-Op (though I hear it's pretty hard on the Wii U processing)
6.) Unique 'Adventure Mode' taking players back into the NES' The Legend of Zelda for a mix of challenges and adventure! (at least on the map)

Or just leave it in the cradle...? You can boot up the system with the classic controller. Or if you mean using the quick start which doesn't work with the classic controller I believe. But wow, I can't believe people didn't know this. I used it like a few days after having bought the Wii U

Are we talking about turning off the WUG to use something else or turning off the SCREEN on the WUG and just using it as a classic?
02/26/15, 05:52
@NinSage

Turning off the screen and using the classic controller.

Basically I'm an idiot, I think I read somewhere a long time ago that it's impossible to boot-up the system and start games with only using the Pro and then I never thought to try it for myself. I mean the Pro controller has a power button, duh!

Hmm, I thought we were getting the patch this week but I guess it's only for other territories? Maybe Japan since they were getting the boss pack DLC.

Played a bunch yesterday, got a Lv3 weapon for..Sheik? so thats cool.

I had a very specific question, and now I can't remember. Maybe its this?: I'm going back trying to get some of the Skulltulas on the Legend mode, and the one for the 3rd level, Deku Tree, I CANNOT work Gohma down to 49% health. Its "51%" or DEAD. I don't know what to do. I've tried doing A specials while she's not prone, and its doing no damage whatsoever. Will Guardbreaker work on her? I really don't know what to do. My Link (who is "only" like Lv72) is too strong for it. I've tried running it with weaker weapons, and it doesn't matter. I also tried Hero difficulty, and I ended up missing my chance because the Deku Tree hit a "danger" status (in text) before I could work her down. I really don't know what to do -- suggestions?

@VofEscaflowne

When is our DLC coming? I want it to wait until like AUGUST.

@Mr_Mustache
This mission was seriously annoying for me. I'd suggest playing on Hero and just finding the right weapon for the job--something strong enough to make the rest of the mission easier, but weak enough to not kill Gohma right away.

I did learn that she can warp to the Deku Tree and you can still get the Skulltula that way if you get her to half-health fast enough, so don't give up too early.

@Mr_Mustache

March 12th. Japan already has it so to have to wait until August would be a bit much

@TriforceBun

Yeah, I just tried it this morning again and got it. I got her a few times in Wizzro's House, and then she took off for the Tree and her weak point gauge RESET (GOOD), so I was able to lay in a few more time without destroying her. Scooped up my GS, and came back with a vengeance.

I had another question that I always have while I'm playing, and now I can't remember.. Maybe next time I'll just Home Menu it and come straight here to type it oot.

I've been making some progress clearing missions that were crushing me earlier, so thats good. Picked up Zelda's Lv3 Baton today, which'll pave the way for some serious missions on the Master Quest Map. YEAH. Even more exciting, I think, was finally winning Ruto's Lv3 Scale. YEAH.

@VofEscaflowne

But I have so much to dooooooo..

EDIT: Ah, alright.. How are defensive bonuses calculated on stages where there is no recommended element? Also, why did my Skulltula not pop up for me while I was crushing Death Mountain w. Sheik? Annoying..

For those who aced the first Adventure Map, do you remember what levels you were? I'm guessing some people use Link for like EVERYTHING they can, but thats not my bag. ie., do I want Darunia at Lv60 before trying his Lv3 Hammer again??
03/03/15, 20:25
@Mr_Mustache

60 sounds good but I don't think I had too much trouble with his weapon. Just spend some Rupees if you have any to level him up. I think I had some other characters close to 80 when I did it such as Zant.
03/04/15, 00:45
@VofEscaflowne

Well, ya scared me BIG TIME when I read this yesterday. Lv80 for Zant? Gosh, thats 30+ levels off of where I have him at!

Took a run at it today, mostly going to focus on the treasure and the 1000 KO skulltula. Got it, and after I had taken so much damage, I just decided to take my time and get the two heart pieces. Finished the mission, expecting to have some C ranks in there (for time, especially), and to my surprised, my 8,400 damage on that mission was still good enough for an A-Rank. Really??

Figuring I could squeeze some time off of the 23 minutes that I ran prior (haha), I went back in there and took care of business. I only took like 2,400 damage the 2nd time around (though still missed out on the 1200 KO Skulltula, blahh), and waltzed away with a brand new Lv3 weapon for Zant.

Now, I can't stand Zant. It makes me wonder how I can "breeze" through this one with him (and pretty crappy weapons -- I think I won with a 210 with two garbage Skills on it), but Darunia's Lv3 gives me SO MUCH TROUBLE. Any advice outside of "raise your level?" I don't have any fun skills lurking on his weapons that could propel me through there. That'd be a nice time to have a VS Legend skill, eh?

Maybe when I slap on his alternate uni he'll come to life for me. I feel like when you put on the unlockable skins, the CPU is like "oh crap! Here comes _______!" I think Impa's is my favorite so far, though Link's purple duds are kinda cool, too.
03/04/15, 22:13
Darunia has a bunch of annoying Moblins with super-high HP in his stage. I don't remember exactly what I did with him, but I do know I drank one of those "Special Meter always fills" potions before going in, so I could use his Special a bunch. Lvl 60 for Darunia should be enough for his lvl 3 weapon if you play your cards right.
03/04/15, 22:22
@Mr_Mustache

Yeah I hadn't played Zant all that much up until then so I wasn't used to his combat style exactly. I do enjoy him a bit better now, especially with some of the new weapon mods.
03/04/15, 22:30
@TriforceBun

Freakin' MOBLINS. I like how in that one quiz it says "defeat the one thats weak to bombs!," yet every time I use bombs against them "in the real world," it doesn't seem to do a darn thing. Maybe I'll just buy him up to 60 and go from there.. I don't like to use the training dojo that much, though I did break through $4M rupees today.

@VofEscaflowne

I just did Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y like the whole time. Yeahhh!
03/04/15, 22:35
@Mr_Mustache

His Y B attack is quick and charges up his meter easily. Then you can unleash his whirlwind attack which groups up monsters easily and racks up your special meter. What I find works great is that just after his whirlwind ends, it sends enemies flying forward but before they go too far, use your special attack. It'll hit the entire group and it's great if it's filled with larger type enemies.
03/04/15, 22:51
@Mr_Mustache
Yeah, you might as well do training dojo (I don't think Ive ever had more than 1 million rupees at once)--that's what it's there for! To keep players from having to tediously level up every character.

"Weak to bombs" means that when the moblin is charging up his special attack (spinning around with the spear out), you can hit him with bombs to make him fall and his weak point gauge will appear. It's not super-useful but it can come in handy on occasion.

And yeah, I do Zant's YYYYYY a bunch too. It's a good move, and I don't understand the rest of them!
03/04/15, 22:52
@VofEscaflowne

Yeah, I can't get the hang of his 'X' whirlwind. I used it once and was like "oh man!," and then the other times I meant to use it, it didn't do a darn thing, so I don't get it. I thought the meter was full every time I tried. Hopefully I'm done using Zant for a bit.. Working on Cia/Volga/Wizzro MQ map stuff now. "Don't Get Hit." Yeah right!

@TriforceBun

I don't either! That one where he stands on top of that totem pole..part of the time he just lands on his head! Stupid Zant.

Made a lot of progress last night though, locked down like 5 alternate costumes and unlocked some serious stuff.
03/05/15, 19:37
@Mr_Mustache

The only reason he lands on his head is because he has a meter that fills up when you do these BY, BBY, BBBY, etc attacks. If you "overheat," then he falls over or whatever. Once it gets full, you do a simple Y attack then press B immediately to follow up with his whirlwind attack or continue tapping Y to do an attack that's better for a single target where he constantly shoots. Doing either of those attacks will empty his meter so you can do more BY, BBY and so on.

I just enjoyed a 90 min fun-session with Hyrule Warriors. I used some amiibo, made Adventure Mode progress, and updated some weapons/characters in the Bazaar.

Oh what fun this game is! I didn't forget or anything but it's good to find myself back playing. I nabbed a few heart pieces and medals and it's just been great. I can't wait to dive into the other maps, particularly the Majora's Mask one.

For the amiibo, just because they're close by, I used Link, Zelda, Toon Link, Yoshi, and Meta Knight. It's nice to get some bonuses like weapons or rupees and such.

I see they expanded the whole game further and further with each DLC pack and general update. Has anyone tried playing as Tingle? I'm curious as heck how he plays.
