General amiibo Discussion Thread

amiibo is certainly turning out to be a big thing in Nintendo's eyes. Whether or not the rewards for utilizing each amiibo is worthy to you, Nintendo plans to implement all sorts of bonuses. It appears right now that every amiibo is meant to do 'something' in each game though games not featuring certain characters may have more limited uses or lesser-valued ones. We've had plenty of threads on here for amiibo and I'm sure that will continue. Still, I wanted to establish a general discussion thread that doesn't have a specific focus or thought. We'll also use this thread for informing the forums about upcoming news regarding new waves of amiibo or new compatibility. Enjoy! Tell us which amiibo you're planning to get! To get the party started, here are the various waves of amiibo on their way, compatibility information from Nintendo's website, and various links to other threads regarding amiibo.

Oh, and to clarify, if it comes up, I'd be in the market for a 'Merican Meta Knight. Not interested in Europe / Japan one.

@gtarrant

Glad Sonic made it there safe gtarrant!

I would think Shulk would have a bit more life in him. We don't know for sure though.

@TriforceBun here you happy?

@pokepal148

Hehe. What's that from?
03/01/15, 22:29
@Mr_Mustache

But it's the exact same thing? Mines Japanese and it's exactly the same.

@pokepal148

Well if you were gonna post something we'd want to know what the heck you were going for, so yeah I'm happy anyway.

@TriforceBun

It's from Doctor Who. More specifically, the most recent Season Finale.

@ludist210

I was trying to explain that to GWiz back when he was interested in my Sheik. The only literal difference between like a UK amiibo and the US amiibo is the box. On the US version, then name is on the left side. The upper right has the 6+ age notifier. On the UK version, the left side states Super Smash Bros. Collection while the upper right has the name and number of the amiibo.

FYI:
Small package shipping within Canada is ridiculously expensive. $18.37 plus tax is the cheapest.
Therefore, getting a middle-man for Canada shipments is actually pointless.
I feel bad that it cost so much and I'm praying it shows up in good shape.

@ploot

To ship within Canada? Good grief...if I ship one amiibo First Class in the states, it's like $5 tops. Anywhere in the US (except Hawaii, I think).

@ludist210

Yeah, intl. shipping is always really costly. Good thing to keep in mind if you ever do Kickstarters. Like, it's 70 bucks for me to ship a BitF trilogy of books to Australia.
03/02/15, 21:53
@TriforceBun
You could just turn the books into something lethal -- preferably venomous -- and they should gravitate towards Australia by themselves.
03/02/15, 22:01
@TriforceBun
This, however isn't internaional shipping! It's from within Canada to another Canadian address.
This also shows why shipping costs TO Canada from the States have jumped so much over the past few years.
03/02/15, 23:02
@ploot

I should've put the shipping costs towards a plane ticket and just pick it up myself. Wtf Canada Post.
03/02/15, 23:18
Part of their reasoning is that they have mandatory tracking on all packages.
That is to say, even if you want to opt out of tracking, too bad! Pay the premium, shmuck!

It's pretty bad.

Per Nintendo: more Marth is coming in late April. No mention of any others.
03/03/15, 00:39
@ludist210

I dunno. I thought the packaging was different?..doesn't it HAVE to be? I can't read Japanese...
03/03/15, 09:19
@Mr_Mustache

Here's someone comparing the NA packaging to the JP ones.
03/03/15, 12:34
@Mr_Mustache

The packaging is different, but it says "Meta Knight" on it. The amiibo itself is identical, the box shape is identical...are you leaving them in their boxes? If so, then I get it. If not...import, man.

03/03/15, 16:10
@ludist210

Yeah, most of 'em are boxed up still (and displayed). Only five aree open.
03/03/15, 20:22
I have three amiibos, the only one I'm missing that I want is Little Mac, the amiibos sure look nice on my shelf
03/03/15, 22:24
@Pg3

There's a reprint coming, at least to Japan. Villager, Captain Falcon, and Little Mac were mentioned specifically.
