Definitely getting the DKC games.

I guess I'll be getting one per week then. I assume I'll have to play it on the Gamepad cause it will probably look like crap on my plasma, being pre-rendered and all.

Whoa, that's some serious DK! I'll definitely pick up Donkey Kong Land since it's an original adventure from the Country games. I may upgrade my DKC2 Wii version to Wii U while I'm at it.

Wait, all 3 (I never really tried much of 3 but it always came off as a straight to video release to me) DKC games are coming to Wii U VC?

I haven't kept up with VC releases much but it looks like I happened to choose the perfect time to take a peek!

First two are guarantees. Really wanna replay them after DKCTF. I finished 1 on Wii but stopped some ways into 2. 2 was very tough, I may have hit a snag in an annoying level and stopped. Definitely didn't get past the swamp world.

@TriforceBun
So, you are saying that DKL1 is an original game, but DKL2 and DKL3 are "ports" of the SNES games? Or are they somewhat original themselves?

@carlosrox
Get DKC3, it's a great game too. Arguably better than DKC1.

@carlosrox

If you've beat DKC:TF, you shouldn't have a problem with 2. It was far easier. Get all three if you can. The third is different, but fun. The boss battles are pretty well thought out, for sure.

@anon_mastermind

DKL1 is an original (if short) adventure, DKL2 and 3 are ports of their respective SNES games with a few fairly minor differences.

@carlosrox

Sounds like you may have gotten stuck on Bramble Blast. I would highly recommend playing through DKC2, it's a really great adventure that I dive into every couple years.

Well here's the excuse I've been waiting for to buy Tropical Freeze!

EDIT: Also curious to try Ironfall (really sick of the naming trend that "Skyfall" started)

I upgraded all three DKC games, and I'll be picking up the Land games once I free up some backlog space.

@deathly_hallows

They're piggy-backing off of Titanfall a year late. It looks decent, but I'm not really interested myself.

@ludist210
Skyfall, Titanfall, Shadowfall, Ironfall, maybe Nintendo will be next with Goombafall

@deathly_hallows

It's a naming-genre reinventing tour de force!

I'm drowning in Donkey Kong Country/Land games. It is a good thing.

Also any reason given for why DKC was taken off the Wii VC in the first place?

@chrisbg99

The only thing I can think of is to generate hype/demand and to lessen the amount of people who would eventually pay the 'upgrade' price now instead of the full price.

Honestly I don't know but that's all I can imagine.

@DrFinkelstein

If that was the case, why only do it with the DKC games and nothing else? I feel like there must be something else that we don't know about.

Which VC game should I get? (Wii U)

1, 2 or 3?

My guy tells me 1 because that's the only one I played in college (yes I was in college during the SNES, I'm old!) so I'm nostalgic for it, but are the others better?

@carlosrox

Yeah, DKC3 is a good time. If the first game's theme was atmosphere and the second one was about a dark, moody setting with increased difficulty, DKC3 is about creative new mechanics (some may call them gimmicks, but that term has too much negative connotation). Sneaking your elephant buddy around scary mice, climbing up a treehouse as it's being chopped to pieces by a giant saw, running through a factory with pieces of hot metal being flung from the background to the foreground, scrambling to cross a series of pools before lighting strikes the water and zaps you. This game is based very heavily around those sort of one-off ideas that add to the core platforming mechanics. Not all of these ideas are winners and sometimes they can distract from pure platforming more than they should, but this is a game that shouldn't be overlooked for fans of the series.

@deathly_hallows

I recommend you play them in order so you can see the progression of ideas and mechanics. Unless you're already very familiar with the first one, DKC2's darker tone and pumped up difficulty might not leave as much of an impression on you as they could. It's personally my favorite of the three, but having the first game as a baseline improves the second one, in my opinion.
