If you had the means to build an arcade room in you house, what games would you have? [roundtable]

I'm thinking maybe Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Popeye, Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Mortal Kombat,Mortal Kombat II, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time, and some DDR game. Maybe I'll add some later.

What about you?

Killer Instinct would have to be in there somewhere. I remember playing that and performing my first "Ultra Combo" and have the machine should "ULTRA ULTRA ULTRA." So awesome That and Snow Bros (really fun!) are 2 of my best memories of arcade games in general.

EDIT: Corrected Snow Bros

I was at a great local arcade just yesterday, so I've got arcades on the brain right now. I don't have a super long list of must-haves, but Bomb Jack and Ms. Pac Man (preferably cocktail cabinet) are essential. Beyond that, Crazy Taxi and any House of the Dead would rule!

Let's see, it would definitely have to have some kind of Metal Slug, Gauntlet, House of the Dead... lots of the classics too like Galaga and a bunch of the other Namco cabinets. Sunset Riders would be fun as well. My local Burger King used to have one of those. Speaking of Burger King, Burger Time maybe?

The Mario Kart and F-Zero arcades would be cool to have as well.

OH! And the Jurassic Park: Lost World sit down light-gun game. I loved that cabinet. It's really awesome.

Oh man. That's the dream. Also in this scenario, I live in a penthouse apartment looking out over Sydney Harbour

Hmm. The classics like DK, Pacman, Galaga... Fighters, mostly Capcom. Sreet Fighter, Xmen/Marvel vs Capcom, etc. Some 2D SHMUPS? 1942? Brawlers like Double Dragon, The Simpson's Arcade game.....Bubble Bobble, Wonder Boy... Maybe some light gun titles- Time Crisis?

@VofEscaflowne

Snow Bros. HELL TO THE YES. My grandmother lives in a tiny country town upstate, and the local takeaway store had one arcade machine. This was it. Many memories.

....I may have to get one of those arcade tables that come with a bunch of titles. Just because you're mysteriously rich, it doesn't mean you can break the laws of physics. Gotta fit all these games in
02/17/15, 02:14
Donkey Kong
Ms. Pac-Man
Mario Bros.
Time Crisis 2 (or 3? maybe 4? maybe Crisis Zone? I dunno which)
some Metal Slug
Star Wars Trilogy Arcade
Sonic the Hedgehog (Sega Mega-Play cabinet)
Dead or Alive 4
Marvel vs. Capcom
Volgarr the Viking (an arcade cabinet was a Kickstarter backer reward at a mere $4,750!)

I agree with everyone's picks so far. I'd like Golden Tee in mine. Space Invaders. Punch-Out!!, and that arm-wrestling game Nintendo made.

Ghosts 'n Goblins, and a bunch of those Neo Geo fighters. World Heroes, Fatal Fury, King of Fighters, etc. I never played The Art of Fighting, so I'd want that. Maybe some pinball machines too.
02/17/15, 02:46
I would absolutely, without a doubt, have Sunset Riders prominently featured in my arcade room. I'm still disappointed that it never got released for Microsoft's Game Room.

Aside from that, I'd want to include a bunch of my favorites, like Metal Slug 1-5 and X, Gunforce 2, Bust-A-Move 2, Frogger, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Asteroids, M.I.A. Missing In Action, Amidar, Hyper Crash, Kitten Kaboodle, Food Fight, Berzerk, Frenzy, Strategy X, Detana! Twinbee, Galaga, The Simpsons Arcade Game, The House of the Dead II, Xybots, Gauntlet, Mega Man: The Power Battle and Power Fighters, Popeye, Major Havoc, Juno First, Jungler... a lot of Konami games here I'm not a fan of fighting games, so I wouldn't really include any of those. I would include Contra and Super Contra, if it weren't for the fact that they're just not very good games. That series didn't really start to be good until the NES conversions were made.

Ms. Pac Man
TIme Crisis (any of them really)
Street Fighter 2
Time Pilot
Commando
Star Trek: The Next Generation Pinball

So what would I do if I had Fabz Money? Hmm...

Realistically, I could never bring myself to spend the money it'd take to do this. Still, if we're just dreaming outloud about things that'll never happen...

Donkey Kong
The Simpsons
Popeye
Pac-Man
Ms. Pac-Man
Galaga
Mr. Do
Q*Bert
720
One of those MAME cabs with everything else loaded.
(Steph chimes in with "Area 51", a surprising choice from her...)

There'd be a lot of pinball:

Wizard of Oz Pinball
Gorgar
Medieval Madness
Indiana Jones (Stern)
NBA FastBreak
Bride of PinBot
PinBot
Road Show
FunHouse
Addam's Family
Cirqus Voltaire
Theatre of Magic
Tales of the Arabian Nights
Doctor Who
That Terminator One Where Stache Always Kills My High Score

And then I'd hire a bunch of orphans and widows to maintain it, because pinball requires a lot of work and also so I don't feel too guilty about spending a bunch of money on very expensive toys I don't actually need.

@kriswright

Oh, pinball! Yeah, if I were a rich man, I would most definitely have a very nice collection of pinball machines... guess I'm stuck with virtual pinball and the museum in Vegas as a poor man.
02/17/15, 04:37
If I had the means, I'd probably do something else with those means, BUT... that's a boring answer so.

Arkanoid 2 for sure. One of my all-time favorites.
Mrs. Pac-Man.
Galaga.

Um... I'd have to think about this.

@kriswright

Fabz money? As in our errant former NW member Fabz?

I assume that if one has Fabz money, you do up a big empty room... and put in a giant black granite sphere in it, so as to invoke the appearance of a single period .

This is a fun idea for a thread! I'd go with:

That Monkey Ball Arcade game
Time Crisis 2, 3, and 4
The Mario Kart arcade games
F-Zero
Spy Hunter
Sonson
Let's Go Jungle!
Let's Go Island!
Crazy Taxi
DDR (One of them)
Polybius

What a great thread!

-Super Street Fighter 2
-Street Fighter Alpha 1-3
-House of the Dead 1-4
-TMNT, TMNT:TI...er, I'll spell this out... Turtles in Time
-X-Men (the beat 'em up!!!)("Welcome to die!")
-Tokyo Cop!!! (arcade co-op!! image)

Yup, that would pretty much be the dream come true right there.

@Paleo_Orca

I worked in an arcade (not as fun as it sounds) when that Jurassic Park game had just come out. Nifty game, but, it was a pain to clean. =P
02/17/15, 09:23
Battletoads, a few Pinball machines (definitely Mars Attacks!), Mortal Kombat 2, Cruisn' World, Jurassic Park: The Lost World, House of the Dead 3, Dance Dance Revolution Disney Mix, Dance Dance Revolution Extreme, Dance Dance Revolution Konamix, Mario Kart Arcade GP.
02/17/15, 16:46
Some of the old classics like Pac-Man (and Miss Pac-Man, Pac-Man Jr., Super Pac-Man, and Pac-Land), Donkey Kong, Popeye, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and The Simpsons, and some fighters like Street Fighter 2, Killer Instinct, and Mortal Kombat.

And a lot of pinball.
02/17/15, 16:49
I remember when I was 8, my favorite place in the world was Circus Pizza. So most of the games I'd buy would be the ones I remember from then. TMNT, STUN Runner, Road Blasters, Rampage, Off Road, Super Sprint. I was always intimidated by Punch-Out!! back then so I never played it, but that would be a definite buy. As I got older arcades changed, but I still had my favorite games like TMNT: Turtles in Time, Crusin' USA and Killer Instinct 1&2. Of course in this imaginary world where I have all this money, I'd also get some classics I never played in the arcade originally like Donkey Kong and Ms. Pac-Man.

02/17/15, 23:28
None, I don't play arcade games.
02/18/15, 03:25
I'd nab my favorite arcade games...

-Donkey Kong
-Ms. Pac-Man
-Punch-Out!!
-The Simpsons
-Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time
-Puzzle Bobble
-Metal Slug 3

And the crown jewel...

-Attack From Mars (pinball)...love this game!

...and an air hockey table for good measure.

@anon_mastermind

That's "Attack From Mars," but YES. First thing that came to mind for me...!

@kriswright

There was a Bride of PinBot? Who would marry such a beast?
