Hyrule Warriors Discussion (Nintendo Wii U) [game]

Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U
8.25/10 from 11 user ratings

Welcome to the official discussion thread for Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

Through all the stories and all the timelines found in the Zelda series... nobody saw this coming. Koei Tecmo and Nintendo team up to take the Dynasty Warriors formula, toss in a lot of Zelda-franchise fan service, and blend that stuff together in a funky mish-mash of Zelda lore that only the Wind Fish could dream up. That game is called Hyrule Warriors.

I was admittedly hesitant on this title upon first announcement. I had no idea what the Dynasty Warriors franchise was all about. I knew I loved Zelda. It wasn't until the excellent Nintendo Direct (embedded below) which sold me on the idea. I'm seeing a lot of reviews, which started coming in today, and they seem to agree that this isn't much of a Zelda game. I have to point out, the name borrows the Warriors from Dynasty Warriors and not Zelda. This alone helps me see what Koei Tecmo and Nintendo were aiming for. This isn't going to be a Zelda main-line game nor is it striving to be. For what it's goals are, and for what Nintendo has contributed to it, I'm pretty excited myself and now there's less than 10 days remaining. The game releases on September 26th, 2014.

Fun Facts
1.) Sends Link and 12 other playable characters from various Zelda universes into other universes. Mixing things up!
2.) Loaded with various locales, enemies, bosses, items, and music from throughout the Legend of Zelda series.
3.) Series offers plenty of DLC options (detailed below).
4.) Tons of combos and special moves for each character.
5.) 2-player Co-Op (though I hear it's pretty hard on the Wii U processing)
6.) Unique 'Adventure Mode' taking players back into the NES' The Legend of Zelda for a mix of challenges and adventure! (at least on the map)

Why not sign up for a (free) account?

Yeah I feel the same way as @TriforceBun does. I almost ended up canceling my pre-order for it but decided to keep it. There's just so much to do that it'll keep you busy for a long, long time if you decide to try and complete the challenges. But even if you don't, it's still very much enjoyable. The free updates have also given it a better feel overall as well.

Good to know. Jim Sterling did a video about it on Monday and that piqued my interest again, and then I got this eShop card...so yeah. Time to bite.

Logged a few the other night; Master Quest is HARD.

My Lv45 Zelda was NO MATCH. Back to the drawing board..

Downloaded this last night and bit the bullet to get the Season Pass. I think I spent close to $35 out of pocket to get all of that, but not bad.

So...are the Twilight Princess costumes not included in the Season Pass? I wasn't too clear on that (I think they're $0.99 a pop otherwise). No biggie if they aren't.

Yeah the costumes that were retailer exclusive (Twilight Princess, Ocarina of Time, Skyward Sword) are not included in the season pass. Regardless, there's still a huge amount of costumes to collect in the adventure mode (mostly color variations). Even at 99 cents per pack, I don't find myself wanting to get them. It's a minor cosmetic change that doesn't affect my enjoyment.

BUT I MUST HAVE EVERYTHING!

Good to know, thanks.

HW's DLC is DLC done right, if you ask me. The main game already feels huge, and the DLC is a great way to extend the life of the game significantly (from 100 hours to like 200+). It's reasonably priced, and the free patch updates that raised the level cap and tweaked some features were a nice touch.

@TriforceBun

Oooh, another good slow burn for me. I like that.

Of course, I was planning on starting up Xenoblade Chronicles next month too. Grrr...

After work last night, got about a hour put into it. Got three level 2 weapons for three different characters, hopefully get the level 3 versions tonight. My problem was I was trying to bull through the level 3 weapon unlocks with characters who only had level 1 weapons...and it wasn't working. Plus, I hate Fi.

The Smithy upgrade this last patch was weird. It costs me 300k Rupees to remove a skill on a level 1 weapon...feel like they should have done a tier pricing system (100k, MAYBE, for level 1; 200k for level 2; 300k for level 3) because my weak characters' best weapons do not have +EXP on them and I'd like that to be a thing. But 300k is not worth it.

Also identifying the skills costs way to much, I doubt I'll ever do it. You can run through 4k kills in probably 18 minutes (maybe less depending on level). You can't get the amount of rupees needed to just identify the locked skill in anywhere near that time...

@missypissy

Just use that Rupee potion. If I can around 50k in a 6 minute level, doing a regular level would give a ton. Not to mention that you still get Rupees from selling weapons as well.

Sounds like a great time for someone to run an EC on it. I don't want to run it, or start over, but I could DEFINITELY benefit from having someone to play along with. Seriouslah.

@missypissy

Fi is terrible. Not Ruto or Agatha terrible, but close.

@Mr_Mustache

Why does everyone hate Fi? She's fun to play as. Ruto is quite awesome as well. Agitha I actually enjoy. She's quite powerful and can easily juggle enemies to prepare larger attacks.

@VofEscaflowne

Come over to my house and place all of the awful stages for me.

I started last night, only finishing the intro level with Link (and getting Impa upon completion). I also managed to nab the Skulltula that appeared right around the time the King Dodongo appeared. So far, it's fun. It's like a mash-up of Zelda with an action RPG with a little Monster Hunter vibe to it...so yeah, worth using my eShop card on.
02/12/15, 16:27
@ludist210 It gets better. Oh so much better.... especially once you get some of those badass skills on your weapons. You'll be wrecking battlefields like a boss. Definitely take time to explore each weapon in detail when you acquire them. I ended up revisiting some that I didn't like initially, and learned that they were far more versatile than I had previously thought. There's a ridiculous amount of variety to playstyles in this game.
02/13/15, 03:07
@Cryojin

Good to know. I took Link and Impa through the Eldin Caves and had a very good time doing so.

I really enjoy playing as Ruto, though I still can't seem to unlock her level 3 weapon. There's that huge horde of "Captains" right in the beginning and none of her attacks drop them quickly enough. Tough fighting 4 Poes, 4 Lizards, 2 Re-Deads all at once.

Did run through and get every badge that I could for every character...I had neglected that. Drained my material bank but they have to be used one way or another. Then dropped the 1m+ Rupees I had into training some characters up to at least level 40 to make a final push on getting the last few weapons I need in the first Adventure map. Think I've got less than 6 tiles that I still haven't opened up.

@missypissy

I find that B B Y is a good way to charge her water meter and quickly dash through enemies. You can set it up far away enough as it covers some nice distance. The other attacks, while good, require you to be close enough and can leave you open to various attacks. Once the water meter is full, unleashing it on large groups can easily control them if you aim it right. Then just try unleashing her special attack as much as you can in there for extra damage. It took me a few tries but it wasn't so bad. Don't forget to spend those Rupees to level her up too if you need.

Hard to believe it but there's apparently already a new patch coming out next week.

- Max level raised
- New mixture potions added
- New medals added
- Challenge mode expanded
- Score recording function added
- Challenge scenarios added
- Bug that extends load times when entering battles fixed

It's also nice to see that the Challenge Mode will be expanded upon. That's been untouched since it was introduced in an earlier patch! Curious what this score recording function will be. But really, this game just keeps on adding... very nice!

@VofEscaflowne

They're raising the max level AGAIN? Egad, I gotta get movin'.
