@Secret_TunnelI absolutely would recommend playing the first game first. Unlike other games with sequels, this one actually calls back to a lot of stuff, and a lot of the mechanics remain the same; learn them in 1, explode all over bad guys in 2. Did they make Witch Time much easier to trigger in 2? I'm hitting it CONSTANTLY. Started it Monday night, did a chapter or two. Last night did another. And tonight..holy crap, I think I'm up to Chapter VIII now, haha. Love love LOVE that they show you where to find the Muspelheim (in terms of which Verse #. I WISH Bayonetta had that..) @TheBigG753How collecty are you being? I combed Chapter 1 TWICE (read: so 4 hours spent) and I can't find Bird #2. Its driving me CRAZY. I also had a streak of three stages where I missed like 4 straight Muspelheim portals. What in the world. EDIT- What Accessories did you guys buy first? I went with the Awards Mallet, The Taunty thing, and then I saved up for the 200k Moon Special. I'll have to drop my Taunter off, but yeah. |

@Mr_MustacheI wasn't super collect-y, but I wasn't rushing through the stages either. I was trying to find hidden areas as much as I could. I definitely got over half of the crows and Muspelheim portals by the end of the game, but I'm surprised I missed as many as I did. Also missed 1+ gold records. Like you, there was one chapter where I missed maybe 3 portals in a row, and I have no idea how! I'll be replaying the game in its entirety at some point (probably multiple times, it's so damn fun) to find more of the collectibles and buy more stuff. As far as accessories go, I didn't buy any until near the end of the game (I think I purchased the first one, where witch time is triggered every time you get hit). I spent most of my money on getting new techniques. I think you are right about witch time being triggered easier, though it seems that the game as a whole is a little bit easier than Bayo 1. That, or I'm better at it today than I was then, haha. As fun as the first game was, Bayo 2 takes it to a whole different level. I'm not sure I've ever had more fun kicking ass as I have in this game. The first three or four missions, I got mostly bronze and stone awards as I got back into the swing of the gameplay, but was almost all golds and silvers after that. |

@gojiraI think Bat Within is pretty much MANDATORY, especially if you're going back to One. I was talking to Lou on the phone earlier, and pretty much suggested that as the first thing you should buy. Whoever clued me into it for Original Bayonetta, good job. @TheBigG753A whole record? Now, dig this, hombre.. I missed THREE in Bayonetta, and I'm wondering if you can only get those on Hard, Very Hard? I was pretty darn thorough (found well over half the Witch Graves there), though Alfheim avoided me like the plague (and STUPID hard, too). Here I'm doing better, but I wish there were some %'s on how much progress you're making. I'm gonna redo my horrible Muspelheim chapter and see what went wrong. I can't have been THAT bad. Still looking for Bird #2.. Where the heck IS that thing?! The Auto Witch Time deal, I dunno..it feels cheapy to me. I think I misunderstood the Infernal Communicator and the Butterfly Shield deals from the first game. Not sure what I was expecting, but the Try It thing seems pretty neat for those. The worst trophy I've got in Bayonetta 2 (I'm playing on 2nd Climax) so far is a Silver (due in part to zero deaths so far, and zero health items being used; if you get that Mallet of Rewards, if you kill a guy with a Torture Attack, he drops TONS of halos and enough auto-health stuff to get you back to full, pretty much. Look into it!). I managed to get a Platinum on one stage. Imagine my surprise! Pure Platinum awards are awesome when Bayonetta talks to you. Oh, you naughty boy. Tee hee! Not sure if I'll get back in tonight. I might.. Tough to eat just one. |

So I’ve been playing Bayonetta 2 almost non-stop for the past few weeks. I beat the game shortly after we did our Top 5 of the Year episode on RFN, and back when we recorded it, Bayo 2 wasn’t even in my Top 10. But now, I think that at the very least, it should have dislodged Tomodachi Life in 5th place.
There are four main reasons why I’m enjoying the game more now.
The first is that I’m no longer watching the cutscenes, which were mostly garbage. I know some people like them, and like the "humor" of the series, but I can’t stand it. The cutscenes had a few cool moments, but nothing you wouldn’t see in most anime for kids : a few seconds of cool action, prefaced by overly wordy BS posturing.
The second is that the game on 2nd Climax (normal difficulty) was a bit too easy. Much easier than the same setting in the first game. Probably my fault : the game tells you that Hard is suitable for people who played through the first game. I didn’t listen.
Anyway, I’m playing on Hard now, and it makes the game better as I can’t rely on the same combo that got me through Normal. Now I actually have to think about things like "juggling" the enemies, for instance, and that makes for a less button-mashy experience.
Playing on Normal first has its advantages, though : I’ve unlocked a bunch of weapons to toy with.
Third, I’ve unlocked not just new weapons, but tons of Nintendo fanservice as well : all the Nintendo-themed costumes come with cool extras. Some have special moves, others special weapons. The Samus costume gives you the morph ball. The Hero of Time changes halos to rupees, and gives you the classic chime when you open chests. The princess costumes change the "wicked weaves" to Bowser’s fists and feet and turn halos into coins.
And the coolest thing of all : the Starfox costume changes the jet into an Arwing, and kind of turns one level into a Starfox level.
Finally, fourth : the online mode is actually more fun than I’d have thought. The connexion is seemless, and you can very quickly join someone or play with the CPU until someone challenges you. The mode is really just six fights against enemies in small arenas, but the fact that you’re both cooperating (to get through without dying) and competing (for halos) keeps things fun and hectic. It’s a good way to earn halos, too.
On top of all that, I’m going through some stages on Normal again in order to get Gold trophies and unlock more items. So yeah, I’m hooked.
Great game! |
