@TheOldManFromZelda

I dunno, I would have said he made a football move diving for the pylon. He already had the catch and was trying to score. Not that I have any sympathy for the Cowboys after last week.

In general, though, I really think football has gotten so much worse because of all these replays. If there's one thing that's obvious every year it's that no matter how many replays are allowed, there are always controversial calls that change the outcome of the game. Knowing that, why not just go back to the way it was when you could actually celebrate a TD or turnover without having to take 10 minutes to analyze every big play?

I wouldn't even call that stretching for the goal line.

There's a stark difference between what football players typically do and what Dez is doing there. He never seems to have complete control, so the "3 feet down" thing doesn't really apply because of that. Then he merely falls to the ground and in the process the ball hits the ground and flies out.

Had this not been the playoffs (or likely the Cowboys) I don't think it'd be a huge talking point. It's been a rule for awhile now, gets called pretty consistently. A runner would have been considered fumbling the ball there, here Dez never becomes an actual runner so it's called differently.

Overall, just glad the Seahawks advanced. I fucking hate the Cowboys "fans" that have resurfaced in the last few weeks down here in Texas so them getting knocked out is great. All that "oh, they still had time to come back and beat us" they used against the Lions last week and suddenly it's a totally different story when they leave 5 minutes on the clock against a one legged QB.

Also, who the hell decides to do deep throws on 3rd and 1 and 4th and 2 when you have the (arguably) best O-Line and best RB in the game?

You picked a bad angle. It's obvious that he was reaching to score from other views. The NFL's rules just don't seem to account for a guy as talented as Dez who can make such a ridiculous catch over someone and still be thinking about trying to get the TD. I'm no Cowboys fan, but the NFL is simply not worth watching if that's not a catch.

If you catch the ball off balance and never regain your balance before going to the ground and lose the ball when you hit the ground, they're going to call it incomplete every time. Much like the tuck rule, you can argue that the rule is stupid, but the call was 100% correct under the current rule.

@Jargon

By letter of the law, it wasn't a catch. You as a lawyer should understand that. Ask Calvin Johnson about that.

@Jargon

Better angle? Where is he stretching for the goal line? Ground cannot cause a fumble, Dez hits the ground and the ball pops out. By rule, he has to complete the process in order for it to be a catch.

The letter of the law includes an inherently subjective evaluation of whether he performed a football act common to the game. Add in the fact that it's only supposed to be overturned with indisputable evidence and I say it could have stood.
01/13/15, 23:45
Holy shit!
01/19/15, 01:37
Yeah, that was nuts. Seattle had no business winning.

I don't suspect anyone on the Packers will be getting any sleep this week...
01/19/15, 02:19
Congratulations, to Misspissy your team is headed to the Superbowl
.

Football is stupid to begin with, but with a possible seattle-NE matchup (the two most despicable teams by a country mile), why would a single person outside those two areas watch that stupid game.
01/19/15, 04:28
Always a good day for America when the Packers lose.
01/19/15, 05:39
Best 5-ish minutes of football in Seattle history!

Once Wilson threw that 4th pick, with a little over 5 minutes left, it felt like it was over. Was watching it with my parents, we all said the same thing and even pointed out that you could see some fans leaving the stadium after it. Then it hit. And the house went absolutely insane when that floater of a 2-pt actually connected.

I like to imagine Wilson was crying after the game because he was trying as hard as he could to throw the game, but it just couldn't happen.

@Koovaps

I wouldn't call Seattle likable, but they can't hold a candle to the Patriots in terms of despicability. If Brady/Belichick win another Super Bowl then the terrorists win. I'm pretty confident that the Seahawks are the better team though.
01/19/15, 08:25
Oh man, the Patriots getting caught cheating again has got to be too good to be true, but even if it turns out to be nothing I'm loving this monkey wrench right now.
01/19/15, 14:44
So that is the excuse for why the Colts got destroyed 45-7?

Almost as pathetic as when Vikings fans (which I am one of) claimed the Giants were stealing calls off the Vikings headset after they got beat 41-0 back in 2001 NFC Championship game.
01/19/15, 16:25
It doesn't explain the gap between the Patriots and Colts, but it does kind of keep creeping up with the Pats over the years.

I'm hopeful Seattle can pull out this win. I think a lot of people are hung up on Seattle needing a miracle in order to win, without really paying attention to Seattle having 5 TO's against the best offense in football and the MVP of the league and still only giving up 22 points. But a lot of heat is being applied to the coach for that.
01/19/15, 17:46
@Jargon

Agreed. I'll hold my nose and hope the seahawks win, not that I'll watch a second of it. And I must say, I do kinda like Russell Wilson. The pats definitely bring out the pokepal in me, though. All things boston do. They can F themselves.
01/19/15, 19:50
@chrisbg99

No, the Colts were a mediocre team that got lucky breaks (easy division, playing another mediocre team in Round 1, playing an injured Peyton Manning in Round 2). But if the Patriots cheated, then they cheated regardless of whether they would have won otherwise.
