Welcome to the official discussion thread for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

Every new generation a great dawn emerges where a new game in the acclaimed Super Smash Bros. series graces Nintendo's newest consoles… for the Wii U, that time is almost upon us. Nintendo is truly pulling out all the stops with this one. Here's the breakdown on what we can expect… (Learn more at the Super Smash Bros. website.)

1.) 45+ playable characters (new characters, returning fighters, or accessible via alt costumes)
2.) Releasing November 21st, November 28th, or December 5th depending on your region
3.) Tons of content; from trophies to levels to music tracks to items to pokemon to modes… it seemingly never ends!
4.) Customizable Move-sets
5.) Many control setups; Wii U Gamepad, standard Wii U options, Gamecube controllers, even your 3DS!
6.) Online capable (and encouraged)
7.) Check out Nintendo's 50 Things You Should Know about Smash Bros!
8.) Stages exclusive to the Wii U version. Some epic stages!
9.) Amiibo Support for all existing Amiibos
10.) Gameplay lands somewhere between Melee and Brawl

As you can see, there really is something for everyone, perhaps more than ever before. As I wrote this whole post up, I was listening to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl soundtrack and remembering the hours and days and weeks and months of fun I've had with that game. This will be no different and really will shake the Wii U community up in the best ways. Nintendo is on the eve of quite possible the most acclaimed game the console will have. This is a very exciting moment for Nintendo gamers. Speaking back on the music, you can listen to a bunch of neat samples from the upcoming game at the SmashBros.com Music Page. Be sure to check out Kapp'n's Song! It's a personal favorite of mine. The 3DS version is to have two-songs per stage but the Wii U version is meant to have that and more, even some songs from past games as well.

Please enjoy a few of my favorite images found on the official Super Smash Bros. website.

The release date in North America is November 21st and it was just moved up to November 28th in Europe. For all other regions you can expect December 5th. In the mean time, there's always the 3DS version which looks incredible in it's own right! You can discuss it in Jargon's thread here; Super Smash Bros. 3DS. We should aim to keep this thread focused on the Wii U version so that the 3DS discussion ends up in it's right place. Keep in mind that the Daily Updates are still being provided by Sakurai (for a few more weeks at least) and the best place to find and discuss those is Stephen's Super Smash Bros. News Discussion (Roster Spoilers) Now With Daily Images thread. I do my best to update that daily with the Sakurai posts.

Who is your main? What are you most excited for? Finally, be sure to have your friends added on your Wii U! I'll do my best to keep this thread updated with the various users who are playing this online.

@DrFinkelstein

The computer is an ass.

I finally dragged a couple of Wiimotes out to run through Smash Tour with 4 'human' players (In reality me having the controllers lined up in front of me and pushing buttons where appropriate), just so I could get that 'Finish with 10 fighters challenge'- The CPU players kept screwing me over in the last rounds. Helped me get the 'Bump into the Metroid to get your stat boosts' challenge too.

Unfortunately this strategy is of less use with the 'Final blow on a boss' challenge. I thought I'd done that because I got all the stat rewards, but the challenge didn't unlock. Turns out you get the stat rewards simply for being the last man standing- The boss hadn't actually been beaten properly. So trying to do it with idiotic CPU players is a pain- They either steal the kill, kill you, or get themselves killed before you can kill the boss. But doing it with 4 'human' players, only saw the three stationary players get killed by the boss, and me being awarded the round before I could finish said boss off.

The only way to realistically do it is to get *real* human players over, and then get them to co-operate. I don't think I'll be able to convince my friends to play the mode, let alone co-operate like that...

Looks like you'll just have to get good enough at Smash Bros. to do it for real

I did the 10 fighters challenge against the CPU the other day. My strategy was to use the big board so that I could stay as far away from the other guys as possible. You can still get screwed by that one item that knocks away some of your fighters, but you can avoid getting screwed by traps and launches more easily. I also think it helps to use less turns. That way, once you get 10 fighters, which you can do pretty quickly with a quick start, you have less chances to lose them. I still had to win a fight in the last round that could have taken away one of my guys, which was nerve wracking, but I prevailed.

@Jargon

I'm decent enough at Smash Bros. Online tomfoolery aside, I win most of my local matches . It's the asshole CPU that is the problem . Don't get yourself killed, and leave me be when wailing on the boss. Is that so much to ask?

Funny thing is, I did the opposite of what you suggested - I did more turns (to give me more of a chance to get fighters) and a small board so I could get to fighters/bump into people to steal fighters quickly.

I had no problem getting to 10 fighters. Keeping them all was the issue. I'd always lose like 3 or 4 in one go in like the second-last round. It was ridiculous. I then pulled the number of turns down like you mentioned, to give the CPU less chance to steal my collected fighters off of me, and I would still have a pile taken from me in the last couple of turns. Every goddamn time.

The nice thing about Smash Tour though is that it gets you a ton of rewards. Custom parts/moves and trophies up the wazoo, and more often then not a Crazy Orders pass or two.

@Shadowlink

I will say that I've done all the Smash Tour challenges legit without additional fake people or what-have-you, but it wasn't easy, and the computer is DEFINITELY an ass.
01/14/15, 05:40
@Shadowlink now if only smash tour was fun.
01/14/15, 06:10
@pokepal148

I've only played it against the computer (and I agree, that's not very fun), so I can only speculate as to how it would be with human opponents. But I do feel like with the right group it could be quite fun. The problem is it's more complicated than something like Mario Party so people need to have some baseline of Smash Bros. skills. And with people who are competitive, it seems like it would be more fun to just play regular Smash. So the right group would probably be people who know how to play but aren't really that into it and don't want to just fight all the time. I think some people in my family probably qualify there, so I'm hopeful that when I go home we can have some good Smash Tour sessions, at least as a change of pace.

I'm new to this site but I'd be interested in playing some online Smash Bros.
Here's my info.

LIES. You hate playing online.
We need to play online more.

@Beardednerd

My info is at the top of the list. I'll add you to my Wii U when I plug it back in. Hasn't been plugged in all month so far. Took it on a trip for the holidays and have been playing Fantasy Life since I got back.

@Shadowlink

I cleared that without any help. I just beat the S out of Ridley when he swooped down. It worked!

And like Jargon said, I went with a larger board (I used Medium though, not Large) to keep my distance. I made it my GOAL to simply scoop up loose characters, sometimes two in one shot. I put an emphasis on Trap Blocking items, too. I think I won like 4 fights the whole time. (And I went w/ 25 turns)

But yes, the Computer is an ass.

@Beardednerd

Welcome! Thumbs up for facial hair! Perhaps we should form some sort of alliance..
01/14/15, 22:23
I got all the Smash Tour challenges on the small board. It only took a few tries. Though I got lucky with the Metroid by having an ExciteBike item the turn after it stole my stats, so I got a 12 and could catch it easily.

I like the idea of Smash Tour, but it's too complex for anyone I know to be into it. Without online, I'll never play it.

Thanks! Alliances are always welcome!

You're right, we do need to play online more. I definitely have to try to make the time to do so.

I'm having Diplomacy itchings again.

I wonder if any newbies would be interested in a resurrection.

A majority of my gameplay has been solo. I've got plenty of friends here and a few in the 'offline world' to play with but I rarely get online. Plus the challenges call my name.

I find Crazy Orders and Smash Tour to be my favorite though I enjoy Smash Tour more with friends because the computer can just be down right weird at times. Super awesome or not at all.

I've been mostly playing through the Solo content as well. I've been playing on the gamepad mostly and I just thought it interesting that most of the conversation about this game has been how good it is when other people are around, but there is much more to the game than just the multiplayer and co-op. The Solo stuff is pretty great! Just my thoughts.

Some people who play For Glory really love to camp and wait for me to make my move, and spam the same shit over and over. Once I get their lame, repetitive patterns, beating them is a breeze.
Like, lawl at players who don't know how to be dynamic.

Fuck Dedede. He's gotta be the most OP character in the game. I'm sure I could counter his shit, but when playing teams he has a big advantage due to the backup he gets. Whenever I see a Dedede they're always tearing shit up and I always feel inclined to go for them.
01/15/15, 03:34
@carlosrox most heavy characters can be countered by just punishing their laggier attacks. Dedede has excellent recovery but his gordos can easily be sent back to him with a large number of attacks. (For example charizards forward tilt or Link's arrows,)
01/15/15, 05:01
@pokepal148
Yeah that's true, but it's much harder when playing teams.

Beat this poor guy's Gannondorf 8 times in a row.

I beat this other guy in 30 seconds by making him fall really badly, twice. Ouch.

It'd be great if we could play more modes online. Does anyone know if Events or anything will be online at some point?
01/15/15, 23:47
@PogueSquadron Doesn't seem like it.
