Welcome to the official discussion thread for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

Every new generation a great dawn emerges where a new game in the acclaimed Super Smash Bros. series graces Nintendo's newest consoles… for the Wii U, that time is almost upon us. Nintendo is truly pulling out all the stops with this one. Here's the breakdown on what we can expect… (Learn more at the Super Smash Bros. website.)

1.) 45+ playable characters (new characters, returning fighters, or accessible via alt costumes)
2.) Releasing November 21st, November 28th, or December 5th depending on your region
3.) Tons of content; from trophies to levels to music tracks to items to pokemon to modes… it seemingly never ends!
4.) Customizable Move-sets
5.) Many control setups; Wii U Gamepad, standard Wii U options, Gamecube controllers, even your 3DS!
6.) Online capable (and encouraged)
7.) Check out Nintendo's 50 Things You Should Know about Smash Bros!
8.) Stages exclusive to the Wii U version. Some epic stages!
9.) Amiibo Support for all existing Amiibos
10.) Gameplay lands somewhere between Melee and Brawl

As you can see, there really is something for everyone, perhaps more than ever before. As I wrote this whole post up, I was listening to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl soundtrack and remembering the hours and days and weeks and months of fun I've had with that game. This will be no different and really will shake the Wii U community up in the best ways. Nintendo is on the eve of quite possible the most acclaimed game the console will have. This is a very exciting moment for Nintendo gamers. Speaking back on the music, you can listen to a bunch of neat samples from the upcoming game at the SmashBros.com Music Page. Be sure to check out Kapp'n's Song! It's a personal favorite of mine. The 3DS version is to have two-songs per stage but the Wii U version is meant to have that and more, even some songs from past games as well.

Please enjoy a few of my favorite images found on the official Super Smash Bros. website.

The release date in North America is November 21st and it was just moved up to November 28th in Europe. For all other regions you can expect December 5th. In the mean time, there's always the 3DS version which looks incredible in it's own right! You can discuss it in Jargon's thread here; Super Smash Bros. 3DS. We should aim to keep this thread focused on the Wii U version so that the 3DS discussion ends up in it's right place. Keep in mind that the Daily Updates are still being provided by Sakurai (for a few more weeks at least) and the best place to find and discuss those is Stephen's Super Smash Bros. News Discussion (Roster Spoilers) Now With Daily Images thread. I do my best to update that daily with the Sakurai posts.

Who is your main? What are you most excited for? Finally, be sure to have your friends added on your Wii U! I'll do my best to keep this thread updated with the various users who are playing this online.

@Zero

Reflect on your failures, get a sip of your drink, flex your hands out / crack knuckles, look at the ceiling, mutter under your breath "alright, here we go.."

That's one of the things I really liked about Super Meat Boy; you die and you're instantly right back at the start ready to go again. No wasted time at all.

@Mr_Mustache

To make matters worse, I've already beaten All Star with all but 5 characters on the 3DS version. I've beaten classic with about half of the characters on there too. I think I'm going to quit the challenges on Wii U and finish the 3DS ones. They're much less frustrating.

By the way, we should play against each other some time.

@DrFinkelstein I've earned all the rewards from the events, and have most beaten on hard, with the rest normal. For the last event, I used an attack-buffed Ike with a vampire badge, it was pretty easy with that, beat it on my second try (and first try was just me bungling his recovery move).

Funnily enough, the co-op events seem a lot harder than the solo ones. Playing them on easy was sometimes as tough as certain solo events on hard!

@Hero_Of_Hyrule Yeah, I feel the same way. Bosses in Smash Bros have always been iffy, I've never liked them, and this one's the worst for various reasons, including how much of a gauntlet it is. I find the sword form to be the toughest, because it's the most erratic and unpredictable so it's the toughest one to read and dodge. I actually think the final form is the easiest, especially since you get healed right before it, but, that's after I understood how it worked.

Bosses in Smash Bros are like two people playing a board game and each following different rules, one playing chess and the other checkers.

@TriforceBun Enough of a pain to score the game a 6/10? ;)

@Mattavelle

About time you showed up here!

@Mop it up

Touche.

But despite my griping, I'm secretly appreciating the difficulty. I do like when games make me work to clear challenges like this.

Yep ima send you a friend request tonight. Great to see you aswell

@Mop it up

Who did you have helping you in Co-Op events? Anyone well versed in the game?
12/22/14, 05:15
I beat "The Final FINAL Battle" last night on hard, amongst other things. I used Kirby and a mega hammer. That made it relatively easy.
12/22/14, 17:22
I managed to beat my rival four times in a single Rival Smash this morning. Pretty tough. Got close with Pac-Man. Little Mac was tough too but he's how I succeeded.

I did also do the three times as Diddy Kong challenge. Not really as hard as I'd thought on that one. Thought I was going to go for four but it didn't happen.

Open question: Have they posted out the CD's yet to those who double-dipped?

I just traded my 3DS copy for the Wii U version. Not in a mad rush to play yet... but very keen to get the soundtrack.
(Registration done.)

@Super_Conzo I didn't get a CD, or even any shipping confirmation yet.

Did a couple more challenges today, got the 8 fevers in Trophy Rush with Dr. Mario and the 20 Crazy Orders with Mario (using a Baseball Bat equip). I think I'm at about 115/140 maybe?

@Super_Conzo
Thought I read the CDs weren't shipping until Spring?

I'm hopefully to get back into this game over the break. Get some buddies over and just go at it.
12/23/14, 00:53
So, I haven't been using any custom or equip (don't actually even know what that is) for any of these challenges and I've been doing just fine. I'm not sure how you actually do it, but maybe I'll just test myself by continuing without them. If I run into something I really can't do, I can always reconsider.
12/23/14, 01:00
@nate38

What was your setup for the trophy rush one?
12/23/14, 01:46
@DrFinkelstein Just plain old Doc. It took me probably 30 tries to get it, and I only just barely got it the last time.

I only have one tip: each time you get a Fever, let the meter run out with a whole bunch of blocks left on the stage, then hit them right after it runs out. That'll give you a nice head start towards the next Fever. But you have to keep your combo up, which means hitting at least a few Fever blocks. I usually hit the blocks until about halfway through the Fever, then let them pile up til the end.
12/23/14, 02:39
@nate38

I'm torn between continuing to try stuff like that and saving money. I think there's a challenge for collecting 300,000 coins at once. Nuts. But possible, yet things like Trophy Rush and Crazy Orders cost money without necessarily earning it back.
12/23/14, 03:14
@DrFinkelstein Right, I had that dilemma too. I ended up just going for it. I think I might just avoid any challenges that cost coins and hope that I get up to 300k just by playing other stuff. I think I'm at like 190k right now.
12/23/14, 03:38
So I asked this in the other thread but didn't get an answer: If you're playing in a room with multiple people online and you lose a stock match first, can you safely turn off the console without affecting the other people's game or will it cancel the match altogether?
