Welcome to the official discussion thread for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

Every new generation a great dawn emerges where a new game in the acclaimed Super Smash Bros. series graces Nintendo's newest consoles… for the Wii U, that time is almost upon us. Nintendo is truly pulling out all the stops with this one. Here's the breakdown on what we can expect… (Learn more at the Super Smash Bros. website.)

1.) 45+ playable characters (new characters, returning fighters, or accessible via alt costumes)
2.) Releasing November 21st, November 28th, or December 5th depending on your region
3.) Tons of content; from trophies to levels to music tracks to items to pokemon to modes… it seemingly never ends!
4.) Customizable Move-sets
5.) Many control setups; Wii U Gamepad, standard Wii U options, Gamecube controllers, even your 3DS!
6.) Online capable (and encouraged)
7.) Check out Nintendo's 50 Things You Should Know about Smash Bros!
8.) Stages exclusive to the Wii U version. Some epic stages!
9.) Amiibo Support for all existing Amiibos
10.) Gameplay lands somewhere between Melee and Brawl

As you can see, there really is something for everyone, perhaps more than ever before. As I wrote this whole post up, I was listening to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl soundtrack and remembering the hours and days and weeks and months of fun I've had with that game. This will be no different and really will shake the Wii U community up in the best ways. Nintendo is on the eve of quite possible the most acclaimed game the console will have. This is a very exciting moment for Nintendo gamers. Speaking back on the music, you can listen to a bunch of neat samples from the upcoming game at the SmashBros.com Music Page. Be sure to check out Kapp'n's Song! It's a personal favorite of mine. The 3DS version is to have two-songs per stage but the Wii U version is meant to have that and more, even some songs from past games as well.

Please enjoy a few of my favorite images found on the official Super Smash Bros. website.

The release date in North America is November 21st and it was just moved up to November 28th in Europe. For all other regions you can expect December 5th. In the mean time, there's always the 3DS version which looks incredible in it's own right! You can discuss it in Jargon's thread here; Super Smash Bros. 3DS. We should aim to keep this thread focused on the Wii U version so that the 3DS discussion ends up in it's right place. Keep in mind that the Daily Updates are still being provided by Sakurai (for a few more weeks at least) and the best place to find and discuss those is Stephen's Super Smash Bros. News Discussion (Roster Spoilers) Now With Daily Images thread. I do my best to update that daily with the Sakurai posts.

Who is your main? What are you most excited for? Finally, be sure to have your friends added on your Wii U! I'll do my best to keep this thread updated with the various users who are playing this online.

@Mr_Mustache Are you using any custom equipment for your Mario? Getting 20 rounds completed in 10 minutes is kinda strict, I couldn't get that many in without customs.

When I completed this, I found the best equipment to use was some sort of healing badge. The only one I had available for Mario was the Vampire badge which heals you about 80% of the time when you land a direct hit on an opponent. I also had a Star Rod badge that let me start rounds with a Star Rod, which definitely helped rack up the damage quickly. I think my third badge was just something to even out the negative stats that the other two equips added.

My Mega Man has a Home-Run Bat, Quick Batter, and KO Healer, a setup which totally breaks the game. If you have equips like this for Mario, it'd be easy going.

Now, the other key is ticket selection. I found that the toughest tickets to clear were the horde battles, especially if there were items. A buncha CPUs plus items is just asking for bad luck to befall you. Giant battles actually seemed easier than they sound, at least, if there are teammates. I stayed away from the giant battles without teammates because the AI seemed more aggressive in those. Metal battles are usually easy because the CPU doesn't react as quickly in those, but, they typically take time to complete so they aren't the best choice for this challenge. I found that team battles were easier to complete quickly than free-for-alls, especially if a FFA had four or more CPUs. If a large FFA has items on, probably best to avoid it as again, the chances of bad item luck would be high.

That's what got me through it. Hope something helps.

Any advice on how to beat the event with Lucario at 200% vs. WFT and Shiek? I need to try on the TV since it's hard to see the ripples of where they are on the pad but even then it will be hard I'm sure, particularly since Lucario is not a favorite of mine.
12/16/14, 23:29
@Jargon

I just randomly swung around until I hit stuff and tried to keep hitting at them. Not very useful
12/16/14, 23:38
@Jargon

Lucario gets a huge power boost when he has that kind of damage. A couple of well-timed smashes do the trick, really.
12/16/14, 23:38
@Jargon I have not yet tried this one on hard, but I beat it on normal and cleared the reward condition by equipping Lucario with all the best defense stuff I had, then spamming smash attacks in whatever direction I thought the opponents were in.

Last night I attempted the Duck Hunt on Hard (All-Star) thing and man... it's so much luck with how the AI acts or what level you get. Some levels I held my own well, others I didn't. The first attempt I did the best for the start but damn stage hazards...
12/17/14, 13:26
@DrFinkelstein

This is definitely one of the hardest characters to beat All-Star on Hard with. I've done it with a couple other guys who I'm just okay with (Shulk and Falcon) and they didn't give me half the trouble Duck Hunt's challenge did. Keep at it, and watch out for stage hazards and projectiles (which aren't affected by the nerf that other attacks are)!
12/17/14, 17:09
@DrFinkelstein

I'm dreading that one, mostly because I'm not particularly good with Duck Hunt (yet).

I did several of the lesser challenges last night (perfect score on targets, a couple of 100-man Smash challenges (Sonic), a few endless, and a few rivals) so I'm around 80/140 done, and no hammers used. I'm hoping to keep it that way, but some of the later challenges look to be pretty brutal.
12/17/14, 17:29
@kriswright I meant to comment on this earlier, but, you can try this online if you turn on the handicap feature, and everyone agrees to set their own damage at 300%. As for items, the Bumper might be fun to toss into the mix as well. Did you only want throwing items, or would adding in things like the Ray Gun and Super Scope be fine as well? It also might be funny to have PokeBalls appear every once in a while, though if they are too common when the number of items is smaller then it wouldn't work so well.

EDIT: You could also set the launch ratio at 2.0 if you really want to make sure that a single hit knocks out a player.

I've now got 88 challenges beaten with no hammers used yet.

The one's I'd like to complete so that the bottom five rows are all completed would be...

1.) Play as Palutena in Stage 2 and score 80,000 or more in Solo Target Blast using the back wall. (what constitutes that by the way?)
2.) Clear Solo Classic without losing a single life as Little Mac.
3.) Get a score of 25 or more in a single rival smash as Dark Pit.
4.) Recover the stat boosts a Metroid stole from you in Smash Tour.

Number four seems like the hardest just because the chance of a Metroid appearing is rare. Luckily I enjoy Smash Tour. So back on #1, anyone get that one yet? I've done what I thought would take care of it but nope... I don't know what kicks in the back wall aspect of it.

@DrFinkelstein

It just means instead of hitting the bomb forward at the targets, you first hit it so it bounces off the wall behind you and goes into the targets that way.

It's not too bad of a challenge.

@kgtennispro

Oh!!! Okay! I was thinking the far back wall as if like, it hits that before exploding. I didn't think of the wall to my left.

Edit: Just did it on my second attempt. I actually almost Perfected it that time too, lol. Nice

@DrFinkelstein

I've also got that Metroid one as one of the only challenges in the bottom part left. And I don't really like Smash Tour (at least single player, I'm sure it would be more fun if I could play it with my family back home). That'll be an annoying one for me.

Smash Tour is pretty fun for me (even in 1P), but I got pretty annoyed at it last time. I was trying to do the "start with 10 fighters in the final Smash Tour battle" challenge and crazy board events kept making my fighters fly off for seemingly arbitrary reasons (stuff unrelated to battle). It was pretty frustrating.

Even so, 100 challenges are down, with all hammers intact! The last 40 should be the tough ones...
12/18/14, 04:45
@TriforceBun

Ugh wish I knew about that one, I had I think 9 fighters last time I played and I bet I could have gotten one more if I had tried.
12/18/14, 04:53
@Mop it up

The problem is getting to the end but also having enough HP drained off of you as your % is reflective of your final battle HP. I went in one time at 120%, which I said out loud "THIS IS IT!" and then I got dumped off the edge in a totally, premature and cheap way. I was vomiting in my mouth.

I use the Home Run Bat Gloves, some Overalls that give me hellaciously good Defense, and some Quick Shoes, I think. I usually have about 5 minutes for Crazy / Master Hand at the end, but I just can't close the deal. And getting BACK to that point has been a thorn in my side lately.

I think for Rounds 18-20, I've been trying to do Metal characters? They take a beating, and will also hit me a few times (raising my %), but I should still be able to dump them w/ The Bat at will. Losing on Rd19 sucks though, I can promise you that.

@ludist210

Perfect Scores on Targets? Man, do tell. I'm STRUGGLING with all 3 Stages.

@DrFinkelstein
@Jargon

The Metroid one is ROTTEN. Also note that you can get Solo Challenge Credit for Multi-player gaming! I got my Metroid thing while playing with the Mrs_, which makes me think:

"can she help me beat the crap out of the sandbag with TWO Ganondorfs??" I need some help with this one, but not a DIRECT road map to victory, if you catch my drift. If you don't know, 3280 ft w/ Ganon in Home Run Contest.

You guys's's's room was all full! So I had to instead play For Glory, and then do Crazy Orders with Mario (first I got killed at 18 Turns, then I ran out of time at 19 Turns. Yikes). Otherwise, I'm still having fun with this game. I like how many different modes there are to bounce between, although I still kinda miss the all-encompassing 1P mode. I imagine it was either that, or get a 3DS version, so I'm okay with what they did.

@Mr_Mustache

Metal Battles seem to eat up my time in Crazy Orders, which is frustrating. I'm doing okay staying alive thanks to my equips, but the time issue is my biggest obstacle right now. Hmm...maybe it's time to sacrifice running speed for more power and put an end to these fights quicker.

I rarely ever have the need to pause in Smash Bros. but I just paused in Onett and was moving the camera around and holy cow... they have a whole town built! Including stuff to the left and right that you would never see in normal play!
12/18/14, 08:03
I've added everyone on the list now (yes I procrastinate, I know), so hopefully we'll get some good matches people!
12/18/14, 08:58
@TriforceBun

Like I said, I'm using the Home Run Bat, so time is NEVER an issue for me. With Ike, I was using a Quick Smasher Cape so I never had time issues there either. I don't know.
