Hey, is anyone else excited about the first Persona game on the 3DS? Mind you it isn't a "normal" Persona game, and in fact sounds more like an Etrian Odyssey type game in the Persona world, but that could be neat. It releases next week in North America and has been getting great review scores so far (around 87% on GR at the moment.)

I might try to knock Persona 3 out first though since it uses characters from 3 and 4.

I chose persona 3 knowing nuthin' about nuthin', and am still patiently waiting to actually play the game. Haven't made it through the intro yet.

Has anybody here played Catherine? I am getting a wonderful Catherine vibe from the second labyrinth. Also, there was a fun Catherine nod during the first "full group" group cutscene. I love this stuff!

@Koovaps
Haha! The game leans a lot on you knowing the characters and their situations, so I'm curious how you feel about it when it's said and done.

@ploot

Yup, played and loved Catherine. Though I think Catherine was more of a nod to that character? I'm not sure which came first but I know he was in Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden.

@VofEscaflowne
I'm only about 40% done the first floor of the second dungeon, so I'm not sure to what character you are referring.

I just mean the "lost lambs" references and the questions about love at certain doors. Very similar to the confessionals in Catherine.

Unless you mean the cutscene.
In that case, I am referring to the shooting gallery that actually has Vincent dolls (complete with horns and pillow) they are shooting at.

@ploot

Well I was imagining the fun Catherine nod was the main character from that game Which is the same character that has made an appearance in both P3P and P4G.

@VofEscaflowne
You mean Vincent?
Nah, he was created for Catherine.
He was added to P3P as a fun Easter Egg.

Was he in P4G??? I didn't see him!

@ploot

Yeah I never played the original P3 and wasn't sure if P3P came before or after Catherine. And I'm pretty sure he was in P4G as a NPC in the streets at some point.

EDIT: Hmm, I can't seem to find anything on him being in Persona 4 Golden. Maybe I made it up? I could've sworn he was in it.

@VofEscaflowne
To be fair, P3P came out first, but the character was thrown in there for fun (talking about his nightmares and everything) during Catherine's production.
Anyway, I should get back to Q!

@ploot

Did you make it through that locked door at the beginning of the 2nd labyrinth? That's where I'm stuck right now. But I'm also on hard cause I love torturing myself and will not change the difficulty

@VofEscaflowne
Not yet, but I have 73% of the floor covered.

I'm playing on Normal because I don't hate myself, but I sort of fear seeing what's behind the door!

@ploot

I actually made it through, finally. Now on the second floor at... 73%! Nothing has been too hard on this floor yet though there are still some annoying enemies from time to time.

Made it to the third labyrinth yesterday and it's definitely the best so far. Interesting theme and pretty funny from the beginning. Can't wait to get even deeper in it!

Are not many people giving this game a shot? I wonder how popular it is... but it's one game where it would definitely benefit from having played the others in the series. Not necessary story wise but a lot of the game is based on the characters and the games they're from. There actually hasn't been many story elements so far...

@VofEscaflowne
I'm on the final floor of the second labyrinth, but I'm pretty sure I'll be onto the third either tonight or tomorrow.

Have you been doing the quests as they show up? I find they're a nice break. I especially enjoyed the meat jelly one.

@ploot

Haha I love them. There's one on the third labyrinth that made me laugh. Did you do the Elizabeth battle one yet?
12/13/14, 17:20
@VofEscaflowne
Yep. I was afraid to attempt it, but I persevered.

I know this might not be the place for this, but I am playing Persona 3 FES for the first time as a ps2 download on ps3. The game is fantastic. I have played P4G on vita two years ago and simply loved the game. I wanted to get Persona Q but I want to play P3 first so I can understand those characters and get more out of that game. With the way atlus games go on sale, hopefully I can get this for cheap sometime next summer.

I haven't had a chance to beat the second labyrinth yet! My Smash addiction is in full swing since everyone seems to be playing online lately.
I need to get back to it! I will beat the second labyrinth today. I WILLLLLLL.

@Scrawnton
That's the best way to approach Persona Q, in my opinion.
Plus, Persona 3 is pretty darn good. The "FES" part is a little too dungeon-crawly, but that's post-game stuff anyway.

I'm on the third floor of the second labyrinth, I think?

There are still a few things I don't get about the game. For example, both navigators seem to be capable of casting Diarama, but I have no idea how. They're not really in the party, it's not a "leader skill" in combat, and I don't think I can select their skills in the menu… actually now that I type this, I'm not sure I've tried.

You can also assign them their own sub Personas? What purpose does that serve?
12/17/14, 22:23
@Guillaume
Personas can learn support skills (the ones with the little symbol next to them), such as "fewer chance of enemy attack within a P-Spot" or "Escape battle and return to labyrinth entrance." Assign a Persona with support skills as a sub-persona to whomever you have for support, and they'll have those abilities. For example, I have Fuuka as my battle support, so I make sure she has the battle support skills like healing and such. Rise is my support during navigation, so she has the passive skills (like "fewer attacks from monsters in a labyrinth") assigned to her.

EDIT - To use the "regular" skills of your navigators outside of battle (Diarama for example), just highlight your leader and click the "R" button.

Ahh, helpful. Good to know! I thought someone in my actual party had to have those support abilities in order to benefit from them.
