This May, one game will define MULTIPLAYER FUN on Wii U. That game, is Mario Kart8!
Mario Kart has been a Nintendo staple since it's SNES debut over two decades ago. Only two Nintendo products neglected to have an entry and each entry that has existed is a charming title in someone's eyes. Entries like Double Dash on Gamecube helped push the boundaries of creativity and uniqueness, while more recent titles have continued to refine a core experience. Mario Kart 8 seeks to continue that trend with it's jaw-dropping HD visuals, Anti-gravity racing, and incredibly well-designed tracks.
With all the characters known, the deep customization possibilities to each individual racer, the classic 32-total track count... there's so much to discuss and share and debate. Reviews are just coming in now and while I'll post a few below but they're not all gushing with pride. User Stephen recently made a thread aiming to have a more comprehensive list of reviews available. So... Are you impressed with the Mario Kart TV feature, excited for the Super Horn, or bummed at how battle mode has changed? Share your thoughts on the game below, now, upon release, and well after! Below you'll find a list of Nintendo Network IDs as compiled by our own Mop It Up! Be sure your friends are added to your console!
I acknowledge this is possible but when I say "feel" I mean the actual feel of racing on it not just the look. It just felt way too easy. I never even came near the edges, while I usually find myself barely staying on at some points.
True true. Well now I'll have questions about the Wii U so I probably will be :p
On the negative (!) side, gaming will probably be more expensive for me now. I'm too used to super cheap Steam sales, and I already want a lot of Wii U games: Hyrule Warriors, Donkey Kong, Smash Bros, and Bayonetta.
Played a couple of online races and it went very smooth. Definitely much better than any of the Wii's online games. Don't think I encountered any kind of lag on my end and NO DISCONNECTS! What would piss me off in MK Wii is that I would join a group and then get disconnected and lose points. Happened far too often.
The item balance is also so much better. I don't feel like I'm getting cheated all the damn time now. Yeah, it still happens from time to time, but it's usually as a result of making a mistake. I'd say the only thing that feels a little out of balance are red shells. They seem to generate too often, and so far the game doesn't like giving me defensive weapons so I usually get screwed by them.
I'm happy I've still got it with green shells though. Nailed three really good shots in a short time.
I find that when you are in 1 or 2 you are given an overabundance of the coin item. I've had first place runs where I got nothing but that item. Really makes you panic when you are essentially defenseless.
Anyway I guess I spoke too soon about network smoothness. Been getting disconnects now. Probably because of my less than stellar router, but it seems like they might have cheaped out on the wi-fi adapter in the machine because my other devices don't have a problem.
@cusideabelincoln I have never had disconnect problems with either the Wii or the Wii U. My friends I play online with extensively don't seem to have the issue either.
I say this to help with your troubleshooting, not to be a pain.
I think this game may still have the connection problem that can occur between races. I think it was something like, if someone votes for a track and then drops out, and a new player doesn't come in to replace them by the time the race tries to start, then the game will disconnect everyone.
I never had connection issues in Mario Kart Wii either.
My router was set to 11, then I changed it to 1 and other stuff.
The problem was happening yesterday a lot. But I played for 30 minutes today and didn't have the slightest hiccup. Perhaps it could be related to other devices in my house, like my roommate's laptop, causing interference or just putting too big of a strain on the wireless router. It's not really a good one. In fact it was given to my mom, but I took it and installed some custom firmware because the stock firmware was not compatible with a device she was running.
I'll just chalk it up to either a shitty router or just a bad day for the NN.
Oh and by the way, is there any word on arena style battle maps? I haven't even played the battle mode because it's basically a ghost town online, plus I don't think I will like tracks. I've always loved battlemode in the past because it was like a sandbox and different than just flat out racing.
- Baby Park - Ribbon Road - Neo Bowser City - Cheese Land
Tracks (new)
- Nature Road - Big Blue - Lingling Metro - Animal Crossing
I know lots of people will be hyped to see Baby Park.Myself, I'm excited to see Neo Bowser City, that was a favorite of mine from MK7. I'm not familiar with the other two really.
I'm beyond hyped for all this DLC (it looks incredible) as it's also giving me an excuse to play the rest of the game again. I plan on really getting back into it again, including online.
I don't play handhelds (news to no one) so any tracks from them is brand new to me.
Psyched about the unexpected Big Blue track, and I refuse to spoil the music even though there's videos of the live recordings up already.
Can't wait to jump back into this game. I played an online match or two a few weeks ago at my bro's place and that really led to me itching to wanna play again. Well, the itch came before that which led to me playing it, but that small taste is what really lead to me dying to play.
I didn't even 100% the last DLC either!
Omg and I swear I momentarily forgot about 200cc! Yessss!
Really cool of you to spoiler tag those out so I can be surprised when it downloads... cause twitter last night had a shit-ton of tweets telling every single track multiple times. GoNintendo, Nintendo World Report, GameXplain, they all had articles/videos/content to each one all in a row so it was easy to just suddenly lose the surprise.
