Ness also had powerful throws in the N64 game, although pretty much all his moves were more powerful in that game. When Melee rolled around, for some reason he was nerfed into a squeak toy, though he still had more powerful throws than most characters. He still hasn't fully recovered from his nerf and is still at his best in the N64 game. I like Ness but I just feel like he's too weak now for me to score.

@GameDadGrant With hugs.

Hugs don't count! Wait...does Master Hand even have a body with which to hug? These are the kind of questions that need answers!

You know, All-Star Mode is rather taxing. There is a lot of content to get through here. I'm enjoying it overall, but I'll admit there is some fatigue setting in from time to time. Thankfully there are plenty enough modes to keep me busy with other things.

Including online! So happy that not only does online multiplayer work as well as it does for this game, but there are still plenty of players available at nearly anytime with this version. I was a little concerned a huge amount of people would jump ship to the Wii U version once that one launched, leaving no one left on the portable side. Thankfully, that seems to not be the case. w00t!

@Shadowlink

Oh wait, are you playing Melee?

@GameDadGrant

Pfft. That's old news. I'm all about the Brawl!

Grrraahhh. The Challenge Board is giving me problems, man! K.O. 200 opponents in Endless Smash?!? My highest is like, 137 or something. And I was on a roll with Mario! Can't seem to get past that. I'm wondering if a heavier character like Bowser or someone would work better. Y'know, since he'd be harder to knock off the stage. Hmmm.

Advice? Did anyone actually complete that challenge?

@GameDadGrant

I think I used Wario for that, but Wario is one of my mains. He's a nice combination of air control, good recovery and strong hits without being too slow. Right now, the only challenges I have left in the 3DS Smash are beat All-Star and Classic with everyone, and get all the equipment and customs. I'm slowly chiseling away at it!

Bowser might work too, but you really don't need THAT much power since the Miis are pretty light already. Bowser's lower-than-average speed and recovery might be a hindrance.

Some of the Wii U challenges are even harder. Beat All-Star on Hard with everyone, clear Classic on 9.0 without losing a life (!!). Yeesh...

Donkey Kong, down + B over and over. Break it up and dodge when you need to. I'd stay near the middle on the bottom.

@TriforceBun

Customize your main for defense and it really isn't too bad. Just don't do a lot of 1 v 1 matches and you shouldn't have much trouble. I did it on 3DS with a customized Kirby.

@ludist210

Yeah, I beat Classic on 9.0 with a customized Ness on 3DS, but this one doesn't let you lose a single life, where you normally get 2 lives for each challenge. Plus, they have the additional challenge of Master Fortress at the end of everything, which ups the ante. I think there's also a Wii U challenge for beating 9.0 with no custom equips...

@GameDadGrant Marth or Lucina or Link, stand on one of the side platforms on the inside edge. Your up-tilt will KO anybody standing on the top platform, anything that gets very close, and even some in front/behind you. Use side or down tilts when it seems like the better option. Probably works for DK, too, I imagine his up-tilt has much better range but the Miis are pretty good at ganging up on bigger targets like him.

Thanks for the tips, fellas.

By the way, do you guys take snapshots of the action while you're playing? It's pretty fun. I got some cool photo ops while playing - I love that just taking screenshots of this game can be fun in and of itself. It might be kinda silly, but it just shows how much care and detail went into the design of this title.

Impressive!

Aw yeah-yuh! Finally cleared the 200 K.O. challenge in Endless Smash...! With Lucina, of all characters! (her Up Tilt normal is surprisingly effective!) On to the next challenge!

Pictured here: Lucina, takin' care of business!

I was in bed and needed a bit of a break from Persona, so I booted this up.
It's amazing how the two Smash Bros. games feel exactly the same.
I played a couple For Glory matches, and it went quite well.

@ploot

Nice! And indeed, the games feel very similar to each other. I don't suppose you ever use the 3DS as a controller for the Wii U game? I've done that, and the "mad skills" I've built up in the portable game translate perfectly over to the console version. Which makes sense I suppose, but for some reason I was surprised at how smooth the "translation" was.

If anything playing on a 3DS requires more skill because of no c-stick

@anon_mastermind Especially since I am terrible at pulling off Smash attacks without it.

Do C-Stick Smash attacks have less power than the other kind?!
12/16/14, 20:05
@Zero The trade-off used to be that you couldn't charge the smash attacks with the C-stick, but in this game, there is no difference between the two.
12/16/14, 21:42
I'm not letting anyone guilt me from using my C-stick.

What?
