General amiibo Discussion Thread

amiibo is certainly turning out to be a big thing in Nintendo's eyes. Whether or not the rewards for utilizing each amiibo is worthy to you, Nintendo plans to implement all sorts of bonuses. It appears right now that every amiibo is meant to do 'something' in each game though games not featuring certain characters may have more limited uses or lesser-valued ones. We've had plenty of threads on here for amiibo and I'm sure that will continue. Still, I wanted to establish a general discussion thread that doesn't have a specific focus or thought. We'll also use this thread for informing the forums about upcoming news regarding new waves of amiibo or new compatibility. Enjoy! Tell us which amiibo you're planning to get! To get the party started, here are the various waves of amiibo on their way, compatibility information from Nintendo's website, and various links to other threads regarding amiibo.

Talk about a chase figure!

@ploot

I'm keep an eye for it on Amazon for a return to stock. I'll let people know here if I see it dip down to normal pricing. I'm starting to want each of these. DAMMIT! lol

Now I've got Yoshi, Villager, Donkey Kong, and soon Wii Fit Trainer.

The only ones I've seen in the wild so far are Mario, Peach, Link, Samus, Pikachu, DK, and Yoshi. I have Peach and Link.

I would bet that all of Mario Kart 8's compatible amiibo will remain easy to get ahold of (Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, DK, Fox, Samus, Link, Kirby, and Captain Falcon).

I'm still sticking with my plan of only getting a handful (around 3). I've been tempted to pick them up when I see them in stores, but I know what'd happen if I started doing that--I'd feel compelled to get ALL of them, and I don't want to go down that rabbit hole. SSB has about 50 characters, and at 13 bucks apiece, that's just too much for collectibles. And that's just for Smash--who knows what other amiibo Nintendo will release after that!

Pit, Ness, and Mega Man, no mas!

All I've done is give my Kirby Amiibo a nickname. It's "DreamCours."

That's a placeholder until I think of something better, but it seems like it'll be hard to top that...

@nate38

Pffff, mine's Kirbooooo.

@Abdooooo Awesome.

@DrFinkelstein Are we going to need to start having AA meetings? (Amiibos Anonymous)
12/04/14, 01:12
@Mop it up
Yes. Yes, we are.

I picked up Kirby today.
I almost have 'em all.

Except I'll never find Marth, dag nabbit.

@Mop it up

I sincerely think so.

And I'm so torn because on the one hand, I want to buy them all right now. But I feel guilty spending that cash during the holiday season and plus I wanted to give people a chance to maybe gift some for christmas or something. Problem is, we have no idea when reprints will occur if at all and we don't know in what capacity. So I feel inclined to buy now despite wanting to wait.

I keep buying one when I see them but yet I think... should I just buy those three because I don't have them... hmm....

My girlfriend says it's worth it as long as I'll display them all some day. And surely I will when I have more space. A dedicated shelf would work.

@ploot

I've got a Marth alert set for Amazon to see if it'll dip back into the $13 sub range. I figure if I get a notice, they're back in stock and I'll rush to grab it from there. Otherwise I'll keep an eye out in stores. Let us know if or when you find it!

@DrFinkelstein
Awesome!
I'm keeping an eye out myself. I, too will let you know if I find anything.

Another manufacturing defect, legless Peach, now discovered.

I kind of want to buy some of these just to see if I can get a valuable defect one.
12/05/14, 00:47
@Mop it up

Can you tell they're defective without having to buy them? I feel like if anywhere is going to get shipments with defective units, it might be Guam.
12/05/14, 00:50
@Jargon The packaging is clear, so you can inspect an amiibo in a store before you buy it. Unless stores don't have them on display, I guess. This and the Samus one that was sold are still in their original packaging, unopened.

It might be all in my head, but I've enjoyed training my Mario Amiibo. The figure is nice, too. I don't really give a shit about toys, but it looks better than a box for a game that I'll never play!
12/06/14, 03:43
I found Marth at Toys R Us last night, but didn't buy him. Then I went and actually bought him this morning...I think I like collecting these... I think. Now I'm up to three of them.
12/06/14, 17:14
I'll be up to three with Samus, Link and Mario. That's enough... right? Someone please tell me that's enough.
