Welcome to the official discussion thread for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on the Wii U!

Every new generation a great dawn emerges where a new game in the acclaimed Super Smash Bros. series graces Nintendo's newest consoles… for the Wii U, that time is almost upon us. Nintendo is truly pulling out all the stops with this one. Here's the breakdown on what we can expect… (Learn more at the Super Smash Bros. website.)

1.) 45+ playable characters (new characters, returning fighters, or accessible via alt costumes)
2.) Releasing November 21st, November 28th, or December 5th depending on your region
3.) Tons of content; from trophies to levels to music tracks to items to pokemon to modes… it seemingly never ends!
4.) Customizable Move-sets
5.) Many control setups; Wii U Gamepad, standard Wii U options, Gamecube controllers, even your 3DS!
6.) Online capable (and encouraged)
7.) Check out Nintendo's 50 Things You Should Know about Smash Bros!
8.) Stages exclusive to the Wii U version. Some epic stages!
9.) Amiibo Support for all existing Amiibos
10.) Gameplay lands somewhere between Melee and Brawl

As you can see, there really is something for everyone, perhaps more than ever before. As I wrote this whole post up, I was listening to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl soundtrack and remembering the hours and days and weeks and months of fun I've had with that game. This will be no different and really will shake the Wii U community up in the best ways. Nintendo is on the eve of quite possible the most acclaimed game the console will have. This is a very exciting moment for Nintendo gamers. Speaking back on the music, you can listen to a bunch of neat samples from the upcoming game at the SmashBros.com Music Page. Be sure to check out Kapp'n's Song! It's a personal favorite of mine. The 3DS version is to have two-songs per stage but the Wii U version is meant to have that and more, even some songs from past games as well.

Please enjoy a few of my favorite images found on the official Super Smash Bros. website.

The release date in North America is November 21st and it was just moved up to November 28th in Europe. For all other regions you can expect December 5th. In the mean time, there's always the 3DS version which looks incredible in it's own right! You can discuss it in Jargon's thread here; Super Smash Bros. 3DS. We should aim to keep this thread focused on the Wii U version so that the 3DS discussion ends up in it's right place. Keep in mind that the Daily Updates are still being provided by Sakurai (for a few more weeks at least) and the best place to find and discuss those is Stephen's Super Smash Bros. News Discussion (Roster Spoilers) Now With Daily Images thread. I do my best to update that daily with the Sakurai posts.

Who is your main? What are you most excited for? Finally, be sure to have your friends added on your Wii U! I'll do my best to keep this thread updated with the various users who are playing this online.

Great online matches guys!
Sorry - had to bow out sooner then I thought I would. Captain Falcon was a machine.. I think I would have been a bigger threat if I didn't just jump kick my way down the pits..

Till next time!

Played a whole bunch more local multiplayer tonight. So much fun--there are a ton of characters that I'm loving. Definitely want to learn Shulk.

Anyone else had any trouble with the SD card? I've got one in, but the Wii U doesn't recognize it--it's the same card that I used to do my Wii U transfer a couple weeks ago. Tried to copy the files and format it, but my PC says that card is write-protected.

Is there anyway not to save the picture if you accidentally take one (which I do constantly)?

My friends and I had so much fun playing this today... that events mode in two player. Oh man, it took my friend and I several hours to clear one of the events on hard. Such sweet tasting victory when we finally got so good at it, perfected our teamwork, and crushed it.

My NNID is Alistair and my nickname is Alex in game.

Had fun playing with kris, Smerd, and a few others last night. I was trying not to laugh to hard when a few matches ended. I forgot the hammer heads can fall off. Luckily it worked much to my advantage. Wish I new how to save replays at that point.

Also, I still suicide with Jugglypuff too much. I've got to reacclimate to the distance on his/her spin dash attack.

@Hinph

Awesome! Well which event was it?

@Jargon

You'll probably have to just clean out your screenshots. How are they accidentally being taken? Hitting Z while paused? Is there another way to screenshot?

@kriswright

You were great! I'm still trying to learn all of Shulk's abilities... The vision thing or selecting 'powers' move has been harder to learn during online chaos....

Anyone else bummed out that you can't use the D-Pad? (On classic/classic pro) I play most fighting games with this option..
11/22/14, 15:37
@Smerd
B-but then how would you do consistent Smash attacks/run?
I'm aware that you can play with the Wii Remote D-Pad but it feels clunky to me.

That said, I play all other fighting games with the D-Pad.

@ploot
The real question is why are we up this early after playing Smash all night.. lol
Huskies and Children don't know the word Sleep in...

How the heck do you escape the Galaga alien thing? Is it just easier when you have less damage?
11/22/14, 15:52
@DrFinkelstein
Yep. It's as simple as that.
Waggle the stick like mad!
If you're at a high percentage, you're toast. Same goes for the beetle item.

Just had my first two Smash Tour matches. Four challenge blocks unlocked too! That was a surprise.

I earned the following squares and trophies....

Riki - Use 18 or more Tour Items in a single game of Smash Tour.
Ridley - Deal the final blow to a boss in Smash Tour. (for me it was Metal Face)
Nabbit - Bump into an enemy who appears on the board during Smash Tour.
Mecha Suit - Bump into every opponent on the board in a single game of Smash Tour.

Edit: And now I just had my first Trophy Rush event. Used DK. Nabbed five challenge squares in the first go!
CommanderVideo - Get a chain of 300 or more in a single game of Trophy Rush.
Crazy Orders Pass - Destroy 250 or more blocks in a single game of Trophy Rush.
DK Rap - Get a chain of at least 200 in Trophy Rush while playing alone and as Donkey Kong.
Chomp Hat - Get a shain of 100 or more in a single game of Trophy Rush.
Celeste - Collect 50 unique trophies. (this last one isn't really Trophy Rush dependent)

Well I got a chance to try the game out at my friend's house (I'm waiting on my copy because I have a house to finish remodeling) and it seems like a definite step up from Brawl, but still not quite as good as Melee to me. Fox, my best character in Melee, feels completely useless here. Thankfully they seemed to totally fix what was wrong with Ness in Brawl (minus Pikacross, which is still entirely pointless).

I loved how some of the new fighters felt initially. I think Shulk could be a force to be reckoned with, and a friend using Robin seemed RIDICULOUSLY overpowered. I tried Villager and it was like someone slipped drugs into my drink because I couldn't make heads or tails of anything that guy was doing, lol. Another friend really seemed to enjoy Paluntena a lot, and my wife had great success with the Koopa Kids. So far, nice job, Nintendo!

Oh and Board Game mode or whatever was a total mess, ha ha. We had a blast because we couldn't figure out what on earth was happening 99% of the time, and then at the end the guy who said "This is stupid, I hate this game" won because I still don't know why, since he was out of the final battle very quickly. Madness!

@-JKR-

Smash Tour makes total sense when you spend some more time with it. Everything is happening for all four players at once so it can feel overwhelming but it's actually pretty fun and tricky. Hope you spend more time with it when you get your own copy.

My wife was tricking me and surprised me with the game last night! So yay!

That was a lot of fun last night. Highlight was Koopa Clown @ploot running off of the Mario Kart stage immediately at the start of the match.

Time to do some of the single player today. Will have to start getting better at characters other than Link, haha. I did some of the random online 1-vs-1 matches late last night, and was doing pretty well at first, but kept running into a bunch of people playing as Shulk and they were handling me. Is Shulk the new "best" fighter in this one?

I fought a Zero Suit Samus who shalacked me for a good hour it felt like. It was a combination of that goddamn stun gun and some unfortunate input lag.

I posted this in the other thread but what has your experience with input lag been? Notice any kind of delay between your button press and the action on screen (online)? Is it going to improve?
