Welcome to the official discussion thread for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

Every new generation a great dawn emerges where a new game in the acclaimed Super Smash Bros. series graces Nintendo's newest consoles… for the Wii U, that time is almost upon us. Nintendo is truly pulling out all the stops with this one. Here's the breakdown on what we can expect… (Learn more at the Super Smash Bros. website.)

1.) 45+ playable characters (new characters, returning fighters, or accessible via alt costumes)
2.) Releasing November 21st, November 28th, or December 5th depending on your region
3.) Tons of content; from trophies to levels to music tracks to items to pokemon to modes… it seemingly never ends!
4.) Customizable Move-sets
5.) Many control setups; Wii U Gamepad, standard Wii U options, Gamecube controllers, even your 3DS!
6.) Online capable (and encouraged)
7.) Check out Nintendo's 50 Things You Should Know about Smash Bros!
8.) Stages exclusive to the Wii U version. Some epic stages!
9.) Amiibo Support for all existing Amiibos
10.) Gameplay lands somewhere between Melee and Brawl

As you can see, there really is something for everyone, perhaps more than ever before. As I wrote this whole post up, I was listening to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl soundtrack and remembering the hours and days and weeks and months of fun I've had with that game. This will be no different and really will shake the Wii U community up in the best ways. Nintendo is on the eve of quite possible the most acclaimed game the console will have. This is a very exciting moment for Nintendo gamers. Speaking back on the music, you can listen to a bunch of neat samples from the upcoming game at the SmashBros.com Music Page. Be sure to check out Kapp'n's Song! It's a personal favorite of mine. The 3DS version is to have two-songs per stage but the Wii U version is meant to have that and more, even some songs from past games as well.

Please enjoy a few of my favorite images found on the official Super Smash Bros. website.

The release date in North America is November 21st and it was just moved up to November 28th in Europe. For all other regions you can expect December 5th. In the mean time, there's always the 3DS version which looks incredible in it's own right! You can discuss it in Jargon's thread here; Super Smash Bros. 3DS. We should aim to keep this thread focused on the Wii U version so that the 3DS discussion ends up in it's right place. Keep in mind that the Daily Updates are still being provided by Sakurai (for a few more weeks at least) and the best place to find and discuss those is Stephen's Super Smash Bros. News Discussion (Roster Spoilers) Now With Daily Images thread. I do my best to update that daily with the Sakurai posts.

Who is your main? What are you most excited for? Finally, be sure to have your friends added on your Wii U! I'll do my best to keep this thread updated with the various users who are playing this online.

This is probably a dumb question but why is it such a big deal to use GCN controllers with this game? Does the c-stick make it easier to perform smash attacks? I'm using the pro and it seems to work fine but maybe I don't know what I'm missing? Is it also just a nostalgia thing? I never played the GCN version in college, I'm not the right age, I was out of college when the GCN version was popular and like some kind of mutant weirdos my friends and I played F-Zero GX, Star Fox Assault and the Metroid Prime 2 multiplayer but not Smash!

Also is it just me or does this game encourage you to abuse your controllers? I'm starting to understand why I'm not that great at this game and of the reason it's I make movements too slow an methodical with the analog stick, you're supposed to really SLAM it when you dash or attack, but it feels like I'm going to break the poor thing!

Another question!

On the character selection screen, can you click on the blank space just outside the characters and get a random character picked? I liked picking randomly in Brawl that way because if I really hate who it chooses I just hit B and then A again and see who it picks next (as opposed to the Random square where I won't know until I get into the match)

THESE ARE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS

It's gonna be fun taking better screenshots now!

@VofEscaflowne
Haha, that's awesome!

I find it really odd that you can't save screenshots to a hard drive!? I don't have any extra SD cards lying around.

@deathly_hallows

I don't know why it says SD card but it saves just fine.

Why the heck can't we upload replays to Miiverse (and Youtube)? Why is only Mario Kart allowed to use such a glorious feature?

@VofEscaflowne
Oh so that warning is wrong? Weird! They make such a big deal about it when you start the game up, NO SD CARD DETECTED yada yada, LOL.

@deathly_hallows

Slamming the circle pad to do smash moves on the 3DS is what caused my circle pad to sheer right off to a nub. Damn game....

@Smerd

We have, like, 1 inch of snow in Rochester. It was south of Buffalo that got crushed. Still crazy though!

I wish my download would run for more than five minutes at a time without getting an error message. Grrr.

Cruel Melee was crafted by the Devil. Seriously, only 1 K.O. to unlock a character and I felt like that was impossible. Them damn Mii's can knock you clear across the map at 58%!!! Or they might just combo you x5 quickly to 100% and get it over with in a second. Only managed it with Bowser because he's side smash is insane and knocked one of them off. That little dude could have recovered, but he turned to my team and just died for the cause.

What controller(s) are people finding they prefer so far?
11/21/14, 22:31
It's all so lovely and sharp.
NNID: achhibbar

I learned to play on wiimote+nunchuck, and now it's tough for me to use anything else.

I'm making due with the Gamepad, but I look forward to the day I can find a Wavebird USB connector.

I really hate where they have the jump buttons mapped by default. I have to switch them around, and now I have to remember to select my profile every time or else I'm 10 times worse than I usually am.

Ok. Who wants to kick me around? Like I said, I want to be the Houston Astros of Negative World Smash games.

Gamecube controller as always

This game truly feels amazing. I almost think playing so much of the 3DS version is making me appreciate this one even more.

You just don't get it man!

(I'm aware I creatively edited your comment for my response, you may have played Melee later outside of college )

Cube controller was just perfect (even generally, not just for Smash). Primary attack on the big honking A button, right under your thumb. Special attack on the smaller B button just next to it. A slight shift to X or Y for quick jumps, without mucking with the stick. It's all sooooo much more intuitive than the blandly identical buttons of the traditional diamond configuration.

I don't recall making any great use of the C-Stick smash (Could you charge on that? For some reason I remember it just being a quick smash). But I suppose it did come in handy in a pinch.

Played a bunch of this last night! Got a chance to do a bit of seven-player Smash--it's so chaotic that a lot of the time you can't even see your character, but as a party game, it's a ton of fun for just a little bit. Four player is still great, of course. Did a couple of one-on-one matches as well, and I think For Glory mode on 3DS has made me a fan of doing two-player with no items. Items give an interesting dynamic to 3+-Player matches and make that a lot more fun, but in one-on-one I find the battle to be much more intense without any outside influences.

@Shadowlink
Well I've always been a fan of the GCN controller for lots of games, so I have no doubt it's great for Smash. I still have a few GCN controllers that I use with Wii, if I ever see the adapter for sale maybe I'll pick it up. ESPECIALLY if they start having GCN games on VC!

I was getting crushed by someone playing as Zero Suit Samus. Wtf am I supposed to do against that?? She just stuns me and I'm screwed. I put up a good fight as Mario, got some meteor spikes in, but man. I was at a loss. Most characters just feel too slow, and others can't get around that stun gun.
