Hey, is anyone else excited about the first Persona game on the 3DS? Mind you it isn't a "normal" Persona game, and in fact sounds more like an Etrian Odyssey type game in the Persona world, but that could be neat. It releases next week in North America and has been getting great review scores so far (around 87% on GR at the moment.)

I might try to knock Persona 3 out first though since it uses characters from 3 and 4.

Oh man...if I had the time, I'd be all over this. I enjoyed Persona 4 quite a bit this summer, and I remember the Etrian Odyssey IV demo being surprisingly fun. A mish-mash of the two sounds excellent.

But I just can't pile 60+ hour JRPGs on my plate anymore. I still have to finish up Xenoblade (I think I'm almost done?) and Valkyria Chronicles will be next. Plus, you know, Smash Bros and Captain Toad and stuff...

I'm interested in this game because of the type it is, but I've never played a Persona game. So I'd be interested in some impressions of it, especially ones that talk about how important it is to know what Persona is and how much it ties into things.

Well I decided to play through Persona 3 first, which means I will probably not be ready for this game until January or something, at which point I will probably just wait until the new 3DS comes out to play it so... I won't be able to give impressions for a bit. Hopefully someone else steps up! Persona 4 has such an awesome cast of characters so I can't wait to play through some new stuff with them again!

Added the launch trailer to the OP. Looks like it is 1st person like Strange Journey was. I can roll with that. Voice acting made me cringe a bit but ah well. Looks fun.

I am totally, totally excited for this! I've had it pre-ordered since E3!
Persona 3 was quite fun, and Persona 4 is one of my favourite games.

@Mop it up
I'd go into the game assuming that not knowing the characters beforehand will diminish some of the fun. Personas 3 and 4 have such fun characters (especially 4).

I've got the premium version preordered and can't wait to sink my teeth into the first hour before putting it aside for something else. Good times.

Oh man, so nice!

Not sure if those pics will work.

@Koovaps
Same here. That's likely exactly what will happen with me too.

@VofEscaflowne
I preordered mine through the Futureshop E3 deal, so I'm stuck with the regular edition if I want my discount.
That said, I AM JEALOUS!

Also getting the regular edition (from Best Buy). And it has shipped yesterday! It's probably waiting for me at home RIGHT NOW.

Oh my god this battle theme is the freaking best!

Mine came in the mail!

Oh man, I have so much left to do in Fantasy Life, but.... BUT!

@ploot

I've put a hold on every other 3DS game I was playing.

Anything Persona related instantly takes priority for me, heh.

I do have Persona 3 FES for PS2, I've just never opened it. It's getting more difficult to make time for so many RPGs, which is a shame since I still like them.

Would it be a better idea to play Persona 3 before playing this game? Would it also be a good idea to play Persona 4 as well? P4 is pretty cheap now so I could easily get a copy.

@kgtennispro
Yeah, I'm going to have to do the same I think. The game is staring at meeeeeee.

@Mop it up
Persona 3 and 4 differ in their themes.
I enjoyed 4 more, both gameplay-wise and story-wise, although 3 is good in its own right.

The problem with both is that the dungeons are very samey and can get tiring. What's addictive (to me) is how you spend each day socializing for experience.

I have some RPGs in my collection, including an Etrian Odyssey game, to finish before I buy this. That said, I'm pretty stoked about Persona Q.

@Mop it up

I'd recommend playing Persona 3 and Persona 4 first since there might be spoilers pertaining to those games in Persona Q. You also might get more out of Persona Q having become better acquainted with the series.

I like Persona 4 more than its predecessor, but they're both good games. You can't go wrong with either of them.

Seems like I'll be picking this up tomorrow. And despite my appreciation for all things persona, I never finished any of them. Won't stop me from spinning this one for a while though. My interest is tied more to the Etrian Odyssey influence than Persona anyhow.

What path did everyone choose?

I chose the Persona 4 path, and it's interesting to me that the story takes place during the culture festival. Knowing this, it's too bad that everyone will have their memories erased at the end.

I just beat the first dungeon, and MAN does the game open up at that point. I am overwhelmed by my choices now, but it's really cool to see both casts mingle in a lighthearted fashion. I felt the Arena games were a little TOO serious in their presentation.

Fuuka has a new VA, too. So there's that.
I can't help but feel bad for her original VA, although the new one is better.

@ploot

I chose Persona 4 as well. I knew the games took place where they did (well not at the end of the games anyway) so I kinda expect their memories to be erased at the end.

I got stuck near the end of the first floor of the second labyrinth last night. It immediately throws me into a 5 enemy battle where they have a preemptive strike. Not only can they kill me in a single shot but they also use petrify attacks right away... so I'm kind of at a stop until I figure out a way to kill them.

I'm really not that far into the game still. 2nd floor of first maze. But I'm enjoying it!

Chose P4, of course, because I didn't care that much for P3P. Didn't finish it.
