I like the Gamepad but I feel that it is too large for most of my games. I would love to have a smaller version, perhaps the size of the New 3DS, with a similar design. It would also help to have a clam shell top, even if there is nothing on the top part, just to protect the screen. This way, you could put it in your pocket when not in use.

What do you guys think?

Nah, portability doesn't mean much with the GamePad since it can't reach that far. And I rather like the large size of it, to be honest.

I'd pick up a "signal extender" in a heartbeat, though. I'd like to play Wii U games from my bedroom.

I would buy a bigger one, but certainly not smaller. I'd like to be holding a small television in my hands so I can enjoy the off screen play.

@PogueSquadron
All I know is that my Vita and my iPhone both have awesome screens, and my 3DS XL looks blurry and lo-rez, but it still has nice, even color and rich blacks. The Gamepad screen isn't even as nice as the 3DS's, they really cheaped out and it shows! I swear even the GBA SP+ had richer colors and blacker blacks, and a more even back-light. The fact that the edges of my screen are bright and washed out but the center is dull and gray is maddening.

Well the thing about the 3DS XL IMO is that it doesn't really look blurry. It looks exactly the same as the 3DS screen does, only bigger, so your brain thinks it's blurrier. If you play a pixel perfect game like an NES game or something like Mutant Mudds, it looks amazing - way better than the regular 3DS. Obviously the problem with the Gamepad is that it takes a 1080p image and what, halves it? So even something like Pushmo World might just look sharper and cleaner on the super low res 3DS than it does on the Gamepad, simply because nothing is being blurred.

I suppose Nintendo skimps out on things like speakers, mics, and displays sometimes because they have to keep those margins as big as possible. Still, I wish the quality of some of these things was better. It was kind of a joke that the speakers in the XL weren't as good as the ones in the original 3DS. With a bigger system, you'd think they'd be better. Same thing happened with the DS Lite. The original DS had louder speakers (which admittedly spiked at times), and then the DS Lite speakers were quieter and more muffled.

To be honest I like the Game Pads size and wished they made handhelds that big (as I normally transport my handhelds in a bag not pocket). I frequently use it when I can't be blowed turning on the TV I find it a very nice controller to use and I also plan to play Smash Bros with it.

@PogueSquadron The GamePad resolution is less than a quarter of 1080p, but most Wii U games are 720p, which would make it a little less than half.

I also think the type of touchscreen they use isn't as sharp as a normal LCD, which is most noticeable when playing a 3/DS game as the top screen looks better than the bottom one.

Oh, I thought you meant "improved" so I voted yes. I want a larger, nicer, tablet-like device. And I would want multiple devices to be able to connect to one system. I have a Pro controller for classic games.

I dig the GamePad as is, so no, would not buy.

Clam shell on a non-portable device?

I wouldn't mind a higher resolution, though.

I actually just bought the large capacity battery. Pretty nice.
