How often are you disconnected?! I've only been "banned" because of causing the disconnect myself (dropping out due to ungodly lag, for instance).

One-on-one FOR GLORY is a two stock battle. That's generally what I play.
I do hope they add the ability to do one on one FOR FUN though, since I actually like using items sometimes (and playing the actual levels).

I dislike Time for the same reason. You're looking for 1 vs 1 in For Glory, which is a 2-stock (although on a five minute timer) battle. I've done hundreds of these and it's quite addictive, but a lot of the guys online are super tough.

No I'm not looking at For Glory because I like playing real stages. Man, I love Nintendo, but they have this weird way of limiting things for no reason that is annoying. Even in Smash where offline is chock full of options!

And I guess they are probably doing Wii U online similarly?

Apparently, although Wii U online has the added benefit of bringing a buddy into Team Battles (a very cool feature).

I kind of agree about the stage thing. It'd be nice to have Stock, with normal stages (and maybe some items), but the only way to play stock is 1v1. And given the choice between non-Omega stages and Time, I'll pick the Final Destinations.

Is anyone still playing this game? Or has literally everyone migrated to the Wii U version?

I'm still hacking away at the Challenge Board; I'm about four or five characters away from completing the "Clear Classic With All Characters" panel. Did anyone here do ALL the challenges in the 3DS version?

@GameDadGrant I did. I picked one character at a time and did all of Classic, All-Star, Smash Run, and 100-Man Smash at a time, then moved on to the next character. I think it helped keep things from getting stale.

I'm still playing this game and it's gonna take a while until I get myself a Wii U and the console version of Smash.

I've recently decided to take a step forward and join Smashboards, so I could find experienced veterans and aspiring tournament players to practice with. It has been painfully educative to learn you are far from the best, but it's the road for improvement. Most of my thoughts and discussions about the 3DS version has moved on to those boards.

I haven't been paying much attention to the last challenge board when I'm home; That's when I play online. However, I do Classic Mode with different characters every time I'm out and bored, so there's a steady progress.

@GameDadGrant

There's a WiiU version?

I'm playing a bit.

Played some local multiplayer last night. Good times. I enjoy online play, but there's something special about local multiplayer.

Also, good news! I cleared Classic Mode with all characters! Knocked off that square on the Challenge Board! Hoo-rah!

@Shadowlink

Allegedly!

I grew so accustomed to the 3DS version's controls that I had to translate it directly to the Wii U gamepad/ Wii U pro controller. There is no going back...

FYI, I use A for attacks, B for specials, Y for grab, X for jump, and R for shield.

@anon_mastermind Yeah I translated my 3DS controls to the gamepad as well.

A -- jump
B -- attack
X -- special
R -- shield
L -- grab

@anon_mastermind

I do something similar for the GCN controller on Wii U. A for normals, B for specials, Y for jump, and X for grab. Shield is on the shoulders.

I actually started using the Classic Controller for Brawl back on Wii (I don't need no stinkin' WaveBird!) and now I HAVE to have my custom button configuration for the 3DS version. Here's my setup:

A = Attack
B = Jump
Y = Special
X = Grab
L = Shield
R = Grab

I remember having to experiment a lot to figure out what would work best for me back in 2008/2009, and finally settled on this. Strangely, this feels more comfortable than the GCN pad. IMO, anyway.

@TriforceBun

...

It never occurred to me to map grab to a face button. On the Wii U version, I'm constantly getting the triggers fucked up, and this will work wonderfully.

I may be a moron.

A = Grab
B = Grab
X = Grab
Y = Grab
L = Grab
R = Grab

I like to give hugs.

@Mop it up

haha. That'd be nuts if someone was good at just throwing.
12/03/14, 02:10
What character has the best throw, anyway? I remember the N64 game had Pikachu just LAUNCHING foes off the screen with the "back" throw. Now the little guy can barely get his foes off the ground.

Mario's throw is pretty reliable, and I feel Pac-Man can throw pretty well. None of the characters have a really, really good toss IMO.

@Mop it up

Wait, how can you beat Master Hand with that setup?!?
12/03/14, 19:14
@GameDadGrant

Ness's throws are pretty awesome. His f-throw pretty much always sends foes the same distance, regardless of damage, so it's good at low percentages to get someone off the stage (or even KO them in walk-off levels). His d-throw combos well into aerials. And his back-throw is straight out of the N64 game in KO power--its very reliable for killing at over 100%, depending on what part of the stage you're at and who you're fighting. At around 125%, it can KO pretty much anyone but the heaviest characters from the middle of Final Destination.

@TriforceBun

Hmm. I'll give him a whirl. I don't play much as Ness, admittedly. I don't think he's that great of a fighter, tbh.
12/03/14, 21:47
@GameDadGrant
The fighter is as good as the player who plays him.
