@Jargon They better not make Samus suck, I am enjoying her being good again.

Yesh. I tend to butt in people's open rooms in this game.

I was on my way out and decided to play some For Glory games while I waited for everybody to get ready. I saw you and thought "why not?". I would have stayed more if I didn't need to be somewhere else. Thanks for having me!

What's with the trophy bios in this game? Some of them just suck. Check out this one for Koopa Troopa (Green):

Koopa Troopas are the main representatives of Bowser's army. They are just about as common as Goombas. They know no fear, bravely charging ahead even if it means falling off a cliff or into a hole. They do this in Smash Run as well. Defeating them will reduce them to a shell you can throw.

It sounds so awkward and stilted to me. Three sentences in a row starting with "they."

And then sometimes they go in the other direction, like the trophy for Food:

Keep an eye out for Party Balls—they may drop a whole buffet for you to nom!

Memes in Smash? Gross.

There are other examples, but those two stood out to me for opposite reasons. Both feel really unprofessional and different from the usual Treehouse treatment. Did they get someone else to write them?

@TriforceBun

"Nom" is pretty gross, but I find that a lot of the more... "internet-pandering" descriptions toe the line between too much and just right pretty well.
11/11/14, 22:22
@TriforceBun Yeah, something about the trophy descriptions seems off. Wait until you read Fly Guy's. It references a timeless classic from the nineties.

Oh, and an interesting thing happened when I was playing some local multiplayer today: slideshow-style slowdown and occasional disconnects. It was one-on-one matches, no items, nothing fancy...and the slowdown was worse than any I've experienced online. I wonder if there's something faulty with my 3DS's wireless capabilities in general, since I also seem to have more lag online than others.

@nate38
I've mentioned my issue with local lag a few times, but I haven't had major issues online.

The local multi lag makes no sense to me, but it's there.

Turns out the hospital has good internet, after all. Fun games!

@HammerLord

Oh hey I won a match! Woo! I had to go though since it's late here.

Hopefully nothing serious at the hospital though? Wasn't sure if I should ask in here or not.

I might have posted about this before, but it continually bugs me. Some people on for glory 1v1 very annoying to play against. They keep doing the same few attacks over and over again. Are they honestly having fun standing at the edge of the stage, spamming Falco's blaster, only to use 1 smash attack and run over to the other side when approached? Do people look forward to getting home from work so that they can stand at the end of the stage and press B a lot? Do they look forward to the sequel where they can stand at the edge of the stage and press B with prettier graphics?

I overheard that Audrey Drake, formerly from IGN's Nintendo team (and formerly of the IGN boards), is one of the writers/translators at The Treehouse. Current members of IGN's staff have mentioned how they recognize her writing style and sense of humor in some of the trophy descriptions.

That's correct - she was one of the women doing the Treehouse Live stuff throughout E3.

@GameDadGrant

That's interesting, thanks for the info. I vaguely remember liking her Nintendo coverage (possibly because of the positivity), but I'm not a big fan of a lot of the writing in this game. Of course, the bios I dislike might not be her specifically. But the tone as a whole feels really different than what I'm used to from NOA.

@Hero_Of_Hyrule

Hm, I haven't really fought anyone that's been all that bad of a spammer. It might be because my characters are fairly all mobile and/or have projectiles themselves. Who were you using?

@TriforceBun

I've was using Dedede after being inspired by HammerLord. I think the problem was the fact that Falco's blaster forces you to approach from the air. Dedede moves sideways in the air slowly, so it was easy for Falco to dodge my attack, get a smash in, and run to the other side of the stage. I have shamed you, HammerLord!

1.04 is out though there's really no info on what exactly it changes.

@Hero_Of_Hyrule

Did you try sending a few Gordos his way from the air? Seems like that would put an end to his silly gun shenanigans.

There's actually a pretty huge amount of character changes and rebalancing! Buffs and nerfs all over the place. Check out this thread for a current list of confirmed things.

@TriforceBun

Oh I just meant from official patch notes. There's no way I would have noticed most of those changes by myself

EDIT: Ohhh, some people are gonna be pissed

https://vine.co/v/OJBJYjhPWvK

Though honestly I think that's kind of a fair change.

@TriforceBun
Niiiiice. They fixed up mah main man, Pikachu. He has been hitting pretty pathetically since release.

@VofEscaflowne
I've been subject to the Bowser suicide attack. Now I must go online and have people try it on me before they realize the change!
Remember when they patched Maka Wuhu in MK7, and people didn't figure it out for a while? Awesome.
11/18/14, 18:09
@TriforceBun He always reflected is with Falco's down B. There were a few instances where the blaster reflect them too, for some reason.

@Hero_Of_Hyrule
I'm in the school where all forms of battle are fair, and it's our job to break through the pattern, no matter how annoying it can seem.
11/19/14, 00:10
So... is there any way to play stock against strangers online? I hate time battles. For one, my strategies tend to be more conservative. For two, it doesn't actually matter how much damage you do, just who gets the last hit killing someone, right? I've even had people suicide themselves to avoid letting someone get the last hit. Blah.

Also it is annoying that if you get disconnected you have to wait 10 minutes to play again.

I hope the Wii U online is a bit different.
