I did Chapter IX twice tonight, the second time took me an hour and 23 minutes (apparently) because I spent about an hour and change trying to beat the Alfheim part there. Good Lord. I finally did it, but holy cow. After that, haha, I was TEARING through the normal guys. I guess I just needed like an intense hour to warm up. Side effect: I earned an S-load of halos! I'm up over 60k now; Bayonetta vets, is there something in the 100k range that I should DEFINITELY be buying ASAP? I've just been doing 30k Hearts and 5k shots (generally), though I did buy a new costume (woo, chaps!) and a few moves. (I CAN'T GET THE STUPID BAT THING TO WORK. YOU'LL SEE.) @GuillaumeThat little Italian guy is spot on accurate to all of the little Italian guys around the world. I actually thought Joe Pesci was voicing him. Legit. @TriforceBunI can guarantee I'm well behind you in terms of religiousness, but yeah, it makes me feel uncomfortable, too. I played for a while tonight, encountered some new enemies filling up my books and yeah.. ( The Big Guy is Jubelius though, right? Which..as far as I know..isn't a codename for God as we know Him in our plane of existence..though Bayonetta earlier said "Jesus...what happened?" or something to that extent, and a voice chimed in and said "I'm watching over you child," or something. I didn't really think about that until now. Was that Jesus talking?) This isn't the first time we've had this "bad religious" stuff though, right? Isn't there always some element of "evil" religious stuff lurking around? There was some pretty heavy Church stuff in Eternal Darkness, right? Even Billy Joel is singing about only the Good dying young (and not having any fun), etc. |

Thanks for the feedback, guys. Interestingly, this game has gotten me to brush up on my faith a little bit more, so that's kind of interesting. I've pretty much come to the same conclusion that @ploot mentioned--there are elements inspired by Christian (and other religions') imagery, but when you come down to it, it's an original, fictional story by Platinum and not the traditional approach to Christianity by any means. I'm still a little weirded out occasionally, but I feel better than I did a few days ago. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the combat, though. Right now, I'm kind of stuck in the first of those little side-challenge rooms (forgot the name). I'm supposed to beat all the enemies in time with Witch Time disabled, and I'm having a heck of a time getting it done quickly enough. I don't understand how the magic meter works in this game--can I only do Torture Attacks when it's full? If so, what's the point of getting a longer magic meter bar if I can't activate it for longer? What's the best way to kill the final enemy in this room (the quadruped beast thing)? I can usually have one Torture Attack ready for it, but its defense is so high otherwise against my punches and kicks that I can never seem to kill it in time. How do I get better at combat?? |

It's like when a lot of Christians were boycotting Harry Potter because of its imagery of magic and such...really? Our pastor (an SBC fellowship, so you know we're conservative) has read them all and enjoys them. It's fiction, not real. As long as we go into the story knowing that, I think we can all enjoy most, if not all, video game stories. |

After a long stretch of Stone Assholes, I actually managed a Bronze and Gold Statue on Chapters XII and XIII! Rock it.
And yeah, Bats is definitely a big help. I bought the Navajo Healing Bracelet Thing, too. I've been taunting here and there, getting little boosts. And you know, using the LITTLE items (not MEGA) doesn't hurt you too much on the bottom line, it seems. Could be a good way to get ahead here and there, way better than getting CRUSHED constantly. 3rd fight with Jeanne was TOUGH. I got whipped the first time, and the 2nd time back, holy cow, I was rockin' her.
Boss Fights in this game are nasty. Definitely feels a lot like Ninja Gaiden: Razor's Edge sometimes. |

Picked this game up on Friday. I don't plan to sink my teeth in until the semester ends, but I did play an hour just to make sure I hadn't made some terrible mistake =) So far, it's about what I expected. The things that looked cool are cool and that the things that I thought would turn me off are turning me off. One thing that I was not aware of was how anime-esque some of the presentation was. Even in the first hour there was a shot or two that reminded me of Sailor Moon in some twisted kind of way. So that's a pleasant surprise. Now that I've finally experienced (a very small slice) of the combat first hand I can say that it feels pretty good and I'm looking forward to getting comfortable with it. There have also been a few things that, based on what past/current students said about the game, have made me smile and/or roll my eyes -- so that's been cool too. I'll try to report back once I'm really in the thick of the game! @TriforceBunYea, first I went to my mom+pop game shop. The clerk didn't even think the game was out yet. They had zero copies. Then I went to the Gamestop at the other end of the mall. The clerks didn't even think the game was out yet. They had ONE copy and it was the "floor model" so to speak. Open box, separate discs and such. I told them I would pass on their classic Gamestop-y shadiness. They were very understanding about that. Then I went to a Gamestop about a mile down the road. The clerk was aware of the game and said she loved the first one! They had ONE copy and she sold it to me. So, overall my shopping experience was classic 3rd party Nintendo. No awareness, no concern, severely limited purchase opportunity. *sigh* But as far as what's in the box, my hat is off to the devs and pubs for including the first game (on disc!) and working with Nintendo for the sequel. That is a 3rd party Nintendo dream come true as far as I'm concerned. |
