Having played the first game from Curve Studios (creators of Fluidity!), also known as Stealth Bastard when it launched on Steam, I've really been looking forward to this. It was kind of a surprise to see it launch exclusively as a Wii U title since it the first game that also made its way to Sony platforms. I've put in a few hours in it so far and it's a pretty excellent eShop title! Those unfamiliar with the game, it's sort of a fast paced stealth based game (yeah you wouldn't expect that) but also reminds me of Portal with its various puzzles and being trash talked throughout challenges. The sequel also adopts a Metroid-like overworld and power ups that will help you access new areas or unlock new levels. Also included is a level editor complete with being able to share them online and filters to seek out the ones you want to play. It's definitely more robust than I expected it to be.

Has anyone played the game yet? I can definitely see it as being one of the eShop's best titles so don't ignore it! It's been getting some pretty great reviews as well.

So yeah, just decided to grab this one up knowing next to nothing about it and... it's pretty fun! It's a pretty interesting concept, a 2D fast-paced action platformy stealth game with puzzles and such. And the kind of non-linear exploration that leads to individual challenge areas and such sort of reminds me of Fluidity with its non-linear exploration. Actually, a lot reminds me of Fluidity, despite being very different games.

The only thing I'm not liking is some of the traps kind of spring up so fast it feels a bit like trial and error. I've learned to pay very, very close attention when I see the blood that usually means a trap (don't worry it's not MATUREZ it is pretty cartooney) so they are not unavoidable, but there are still some points where I feel like you would need master reflexes to not get trapped your first try.

Still, minor complaint.

Anyway, will probably have more to say later but so far pretty glad I dove in.

@Zero

Yeah the game is quick to punish you at times but I really don't mind. The checkpoint system is VERY forgiving anyway, plus you'll want to replay levels for those S rankings so you'll know what's coming and it makes avoiding those traps even more exciting when rushing through levels.

Glad you're enjoying it though! I wonder what kind of sale expectations they have on the game. They were taking a chance on releasing it as an exclusive though I don't know if it was ever hugely successful on other platforms. It doesn't seem like there was much hype of any kind before its release...

I have to imagine that Nintendo funded it in some ways. I just really can't see them, on their own, being like hey, Wii U exclusive is the way to make money!

Decided to give this game a shot despite my flu ridden state and my infection induced Steve Buscemi eyes giving me the eye sight of a mole rat, but even with all that the game was good fun. Seems like a glorious mix of twitchy platforming and creative puzzles. Can't wait to check out the level creator and promptly realize I suck at it. Biggest gripe I've got so far is that it doesn't seem to be possible to revert your character to their default looks once you do give them a hat or an outfit.

@r_hjort

Yeah that's a known glitch according to the creator on Twitter. Should be fixed soon hopefully but there's a ton of costumes to collect anyway.

@VofEscaflowne
Ah, good to know, thanks for the info! It's not exactly bothering me to be honest, I just haven't found anything else to complain about so far.

As a big Fluidity fan, I'm going to add this to my wish list. Unfortunately I have other games on the go right now, so I will pick this game up later.

@Zero

I don't think Nintendo had too much to do with this game, apart from having a prior relationship with Curve, having made both Fluidity games for them. Curve has gone on record saying that being an indie in Sony's ecosystem can be tough, particularly because of PS+, so releasing an exclusive game on Wii U is a way for them to gain some exposure.

This game just gets better and better. You don't get a ton of upgrades, but each one is pretty awesome.

People should buy this! One of the best games on the Wii U this year for sure.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.

I just ran into what I am pretty sure is a gamebreaking bug. I can't find much reference to it other than someone's Miiverse post...

Also, I tried helping another dude the other day who had a similar gamebreaking bug with a closed-off elevator in the Scrapyard, so you're not alone here.

Argh! I'm too far to want to start over, especially since I don't fully understand what set it off so it could happen again. Maybe they will patch it? MAYBE? Probably not though.

Blah. This was my plan for tonight too. Now what? Go to bed?!

(Minor spoilers?) BTW for anyone who wants to avoid the glitch, it happened right here:

Basically when I first got there the elevator was open, but then I came back down for some reason, and then I couldn't use it again. There is nowhere else to go.

On the map:

I thought about just restarting it, since it is a "puzzle" type game so I could probably burn through everything quickly and get back to where I was. But there doesn't seem to be any way from the menus to restart?! I guess I could just delete my save data?

So weird.
12/27/14, 19:45
Andddddd I power through the whole game in a single day, just to run into the same thing. This time the elevator never even opened to begin with. I'd almost think I must be doing something wrong except that last time the elevator did open.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.

I emailed them the images / explanation asking if they are patching this. I highly doubt they will respond, but it was worth a shot.

This takes an otherwise excellent experience and sours it pretty highly. I mean, no way am I going to try a third run through at this point. So I guess, barring a patch or something, I'm done. Sigh.

Did anyone actually finish this? No one else ran into this glitch? I must be unlucky to get it twice.

They did patch the outfit select thing, despite it being a non-issue, so maybe they will patch game-killing bugs? MAYBE?!

Man, that's a bummer. Hopefully they patch it.

Now coming to PC, Xbox One, PS4, PS3, and Vita.

Is the Gamepad functionality worthwhile, or should I wait and see how the PC version adapts? Still definitely going to pick this game up, leaning towards Wii U, but we'll see.

@nate38 As much as I love this game, I'd probably suggest waiting and seeing if the other versions have the game killing glitch. Or if they decide to patch the glitch while working on the other versions.

It's not fun getting halfway through a game twice and not being able to continue.

To be honest I'm glad to hear this news because I feel like the only way I will finish this game is if they fix it to bring it over to the other platforms. Would they release a "broken" version on new platforms without fixing it?

PS. And no one can say they don't know about the glitch, I emailed them about it!

@nate38
It's basically just off-TV play for single player purposes, and a co-op mode that I never tried, but sounded more like a helper mode of sorts.

Still, it's a tremendous game, and the Nintendo fanboy in me would love to see you get it on Wii U to support Curve's dedication to the platform.

EDIT: @Zero Is a Wii U patch out of the question? I thought they already patched some issues, like the costume stuff.

@r_hjort It's not out of the question, but... they patched costumes right away and then did nothing for months. And I definitely notified them back in December, and I probably wasn't the first to do so. And it doesn't seem like a particularly hard thing to fix, I just don't think it is a priority of theirs anymore. So I kind of don't expect one now.

My only real hope there is that in doing the new versions they fix it there, and then decide to fix it on Wii U as well. But... they might just get the new versions working nice and forget about the Wii U version.

I have to be honest, I try not to get bitter but... somehow the fact that they know this exists and can patch it and never did really bothers me. In part because it is such an amazing game that I want to play more... and I can't.

@Zero
I thought it took them months before they patched the costume thing too, 'cause that was still an issue (well, minor inconvenience, but you know) when I stopped playing the game late last year. But yeah, I suppose they should have jumped on the more serious issues by now if it was a big priority. Pity, because the game is really friggin' sweet.
03/02/15, 17:30
@r_hjort I guess it did take them close to two months to get that patch out. But this is a game killing glitch! It should be high priority! And I imagine they had to have been aware of it early on. Here are people talking about it way back in early November.

To be frank I think they just moved onto other things. Other things being these new versions, apparently. I can only hope that they patch it now. Tempted to email them about it, but they never responded to my last one...

This might be kind of "mean" and not the right place to do it, but I just responded to their announcement on Twitter asking if they addressed the glitch. It's fair for a consumer to want an answer to this, right? I don't want to buy ANOTHER version and have the same thing happen again...
