Hyrule Warriors Discussion (Nintendo Wii U) [game]

Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U
8.25/10 from 11 user ratings

Welcome to the official discussion thread for Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

Through all the stories and all the timelines found in the Zelda series... nobody saw this coming. Koei Tecmo and Nintendo team up to take the Dynasty Warriors formula, toss in a lot of Zelda-franchise fan service, and blend that stuff together in a funky mish-mash of Zelda lore that only the Wind Fish could dream up. That game is called Hyrule Warriors.

I was admittedly hesitant on this title upon first announcement. I had no idea what the Dynasty Warriors franchise was all about. I knew I loved Zelda. It wasn't until the excellent Nintendo Direct (embedded below) which sold me on the idea. I'm seeing a lot of reviews, which started coming in today, and they seem to agree that this isn't much of a Zelda game. I have to point out, the name borrows the Warriors from Dynasty Warriors and not Zelda. This alone helps me see what Koei Tecmo and Nintendo were aiming for. This isn't going to be a Zelda main-line game nor is it striving to be. For what it's goals are, and for what Nintendo has contributed to it, I'm pretty excited myself and now there's less than 10 days remaining. The game releases on September 26th, 2014.

Fun Facts
1.) Sends Link and 12 other playable characters from various Zelda universes into other universes. Mixing things up!
2.) Loaded with various locales, enemies, bosses, items, and music from throughout the Legend of Zelda series.
3.) Series offers plenty of DLC options (detailed below).
4.) Tons of combos and special moves for each character.
5.) 2-player Co-Op (though I hear it's pretty hard on the Wii U processing)
6.) Unique 'Adventure Mode' taking players back into the NES' The Legend of Zelda for a mix of challenges and adventure! (at least on the map)

Oh man, that does suck! 4.4 million rupees though... hot damn dude!

Luckily my rage and desire to watch Doctor Who put me in badass mode and...

happened under these awesome conditions... so better in every aspect! Woo!

So here's my map as of 10/16/2014.

1908 kills on that first Master Quest mission. 702 kills with Focus Spirit activated

How do we open up that part of the DLC? I paid in full the $20 for all the packs. I have the three new characters (which I think was the free pack) but i don't know how to "enact" the new DLC. When I went to the eShop it said it was downloaded.

@DrFinkelstein

Did you reboot the game again? I had to do it twice for some reason. Then upon starting the game, I got a bunch of messages of unlocked content.
10/17/14, 05:48
@VofEscaflowne

That's probably it. I haven't done it since I first had unlocked characters. I'll probably have it tomorrow then. Thanks.

@DrFinkelstein

Hopefully that's it because the characters weren't even available for me at first before restarting it a second time.

Just started playing as Cia anyway. Fun to get her side of the story though I was hoping it was even earlier than the period this is set as. Maybe explain her obsession with Link?

My trick was going into Adventure Mode and trying to Network connect. That forced the patch for me. No idea why it wouldn't just download/install on first start up...

Unlocked Link's first outfit, his Four Sword Purple Tunic, and that's about as far as I got last night. Need to work on leveling other people besides Link. He can drop most "elites" in a couple swipes...everyone else takes days.

I'm trying to at least finish getting all the level 3 weapons before seriously jumping into Master Quest. Only three to go...
10/17/14, 20:10
@DrFinkelstein

Nobody is over 50. I think 44 is my top guy, POSSIBLY 46.

And man, I was DROPPING it last night. Totally crushing everything. 3-4 quests that were HAUNTING me went down like a sack of hammers. All kinds of new weapons for me (bottom left, and the square to the right of it specifically), and now I've got like 1 spot grayed out. I need another Stepladder though (because I messed up like a dummy); how long until it repopulates??

@VofEscaflowne

Yeah, I really don't like the Zelda one. I like Greaser Ganondorf though! So rad!

@DrFinkelstein

That Quest was freakin' BALLS. I took SO much damage over and over and over. Never had an issue with time.

@VofEscaflowne

And this one (bottom middle?) was hard as cranks, too.

--Where do I go for the Master Quest stuff?? (I bought the $19.99 thing, so I should be set on DLC, no?) Do I need to complete the Adventure Mode completely first? That makes sense to me! (Speaking of which, did anyone else complete the stages equivalent to the locations of the NES Dungeons IN ORDER? I still have to do Level-8.., but only Level-8.)
10/18/14, 00:10
For the love of God, why won't the Stepladder repopulate!? I've done about 500 missions since I last had it.
Its been about 7 real hours of gameplay. 7!

--KIDS, use a Compass. I'm hating it over here. Stupid lapse of judgment, and there we go.
10/18/14, 06:52
@Mr_Mustache

Have you done missions which take up rarer items? I think maybe 'common' and 'uncommon' items might be tied in with themselves in that way.
10/18/14, 16:09
I had that same problem with the ladder. Used it on the "wrong" spot then had to use the compass to figure out what I was doing wrong. Luckily I had gotten the ladder much earlier so the new one was already respawned at the same spot.

I actually went ahead and finally used the training dojo yesterday. I only have a few level 3 weapons left to collect and with a few low level characters, I couldn't resist due to everything dying so slowly. I feel dirty! But it worked though. Got Daruina's weapon and Lana's though neither of them needed that many levels. I actually got Midna's level 3 weapon and she wasn't even level 30 yet! She's pretty strong.
10/18/14, 17:04

Made some more progress, particularly in the graveyard. Now to unlock the top and right-side rows.

Then I'll keep working at different weapons.

I'm kinda surprised that the game doesn't even have a "restart mission" option. Going for the Skultulas on Aventure Mode and losing 4 hearts means that you have to either complete the mission or kill yourself which can take a while in some cases.
10/18/14, 18:10
@VofEscaflowne

It's not a restart mission button but you can always Return to Map any time.
10/18/14, 18:28
@DrFinkelstein

Yeah I know, it's just not convenient though I guess quicker than dying in some cases. Almost done with these Skultulas in Adventure Mode though!

Though 2 of them are actually on maps for level 3 weapons which I'm having a hard time just for that.
10/18/14, 18:32
@DrFinkelstein

Take up rarer items? I don't understand.

****

BUT I THINK I FIGURED SOMETHING OUT. Listen, friends..

I'd been watching the Level-7 Stepladder spot for, like, so many missions. 8 real life hours. Nothin'. So, I started experimenting. I tried filling up my card boxes up there with every other item, thinking it'd pop in. No dice. I started taking down the other Would-Be Dungeon spots to no avail. THEN..and I think this worked, because it yielded a positive result: I did the mission BELOW that spot, which would've been the one necessary to play to OPEN that spot, and voila! Ladder! Super pumped.

But then I uncovered that spot and puked in my mouth. F'n hard. Level 3 Gauntlets for Link is a bag of dicks, too.

UGH, I KNOW. I'm thinking / HOPING they're going to patch that soon. If I'm doing those Quiz Challenges, and I drop below X amount of hearts, I just let them kill me..especially if Volga is there. He'll have me dead in about 13 seconds if you just stand there. What an asshole. Any good techniques for that guy? He's got my number, big time.

@VofEscaflowne

That East Coast Ruto Skulltula you have there is a bitch. I can't stand her. And Zant doesn't open himself up for a huge attack ever. What the F.

Questions, citizens: I haven't played Legend in a while as I've been working on Adventure, but with the DLC, I now have access to Cia's 1st Mission and "The Return of Ganondorf" which I left off at and comes naturally with the game. Which makes more sense to start with? I originally though the "natural" one, but the other one is positioned way back when, so I didn't know if the timelines ran parallel? No spoilers, please.

EDIT- And judging by these pictures, just to help you know where I am; I'm well behind V and well ahead of Fink. I think I'm in last place on Legend mode though.

@Mr_Mustache

I'm saying, perhaps when you earn a rarer item (Ice Arrows, Ladder, Raft, etc) a new one of those will replenish. However if you were to do simpler levels which have only common items (like compass or candle) then maybe it only will change/replenish common items.

Just a theory.
10/19/14, 06:09
@Mr_Mustache

Volga's really easy if you don't give him a chance to attack. Just attack him constantly until he charges up for a front leap attack which leaves him open to counterattack. I can kill him in like a minute easily without him touching me.

As for the DLC content, I'd go with the standard path first.
