Hyrule Warriors Discussion (Nintendo Wii U) [game]

Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U
8.25/10 from 11 user ratings

Welcome to the official discussion thread for Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

Through all the stories and all the timelines found in the Zelda series... nobody saw this coming. Koei Tecmo and Nintendo team up to take the Dynasty Warriors formula, toss in a lot of Zelda-franchise fan service, and blend that stuff together in a funky mish-mash of Zelda lore that only the Wind Fish could dream up. That game is called Hyrule Warriors.

I was admittedly hesitant on this title upon first announcement. I had no idea what the Dynasty Warriors franchise was all about. I knew I loved Zelda. It wasn't until the excellent Nintendo Direct (embedded below) which sold me on the idea. I'm seeing a lot of reviews, which started coming in today, and they seem to agree that this isn't much of a Zelda game. I have to point out, the name borrows the Warriors from Dynasty Warriors and not Zelda. This alone helps me see what Koei Tecmo and Nintendo were aiming for. This isn't going to be a Zelda main-line game nor is it striving to be. For what it's goals are, and for what Nintendo has contributed to it, I'm pretty excited myself and now there's less than 10 days remaining. The game releases on September 26th, 2014.

Fun Facts
1.) Sends Link and 12 other playable characters from various Zelda universes into other universes. Mixing things up!
2.) Loaded with various locales, enemies, bosses, items, and music from throughout the Legend of Zelda series.
3.) Series offers plenty of DLC options (detailed below).
4.) Tons of combos and special moves for each character.
5.) 2-player Co-Op (though I hear it's pretty hard on the Wii U processing)
6.) Unique 'Adventure Mode' taking players back into the NES' The Legend of Zelda for a mix of challenges and adventure! (at least on the map)

Yeah it's only good for one battle. I'm gonna try going for that medal where you need to create one of each kind... which is annoying since I haven't really created any yet so I gotta do as many battles as there are potions since you can only make one at a time. Plenty of Gold Skultulas left though so it shouldn't be too bad!

I've almost completed the Adventure Mode map now. Only 3 dark spots remain but there's still some weapons to acquire after that. And then I'll probably tackle the remaining Gold Skultulas and back off to Legend Mode to finish off the rest there. I've got 2 completed illustrations now and the 3rd one is nearly complete.

I never thought I'd play the game this much either and now free DLC is hitting tomorrow I think? Master Quest I believe. Yay more content to add on top of the ridiculous amount of stuff to do already!

Yeah, I haven't messed with the potion crafting at all. They seem...expensive for what they do. One-time use items are typically things I don't think about in games like this already (too much thinking about when they'd be useful, having to pick them from the inventory, etc), so when you need 20 of my materials, I get pretty hesitant on actually putting that cost in the pot. Has anyone actually tried these? Maybe they're super-good and we don't know it.

@TriforceBun

Well it's 20 bronze materials which are very frequent already. Only 5 silver ones are required for the next upgrade and then 1 gold. Some maps are unlocked later that make the silver and gold stuff very easy to get. The only potion I'd really go for is the one that increases the empty slot weapons. Combined with Slots+ and Stars+ mods on weapons, I would imagine this would help to get an 8 slot, 5 star weapon to do whatever you want with. I haven't really tried it out yet since I'm just working my way down the potion list until I've created them all.

I'll hold off on them until later then, especially since Link is the only one with Level-3 weapons so it'd be a waste of mats trying to boost the drop chances on weapons. The rest didn't seem all that interesting, but I've only got ~27 Skulltulas so I don't have much unlocked.

I am completely in the dark with the DLC on this game. Just saw they had screenshots released 3 days ago, "new" playable characters (I thought it was weird they weren't originally).

I do kind of wish the pre-order outfits would get released.

Almost done with my Adventure Mode map (except for the red squares); pretty sure V is farther than me, but I'd be a bit surprised if someone else was fililng up the map as much as I was. Haven't touched Legend since the weekend!

Some of those quests are HARD. The place before you get the White Sword (on the NES game) was hard as heck, and everything to the left of the waterfall was ghastly. Thankfully, I FINALLY passed that today, and I've crept up through the Graveyard, too.

I just have the lower left hand corner (and the mission required to get there) and the bottom right hand 4x5 along the water (from beneath the first Stepladder spot stretching west to the only North opening on the bottom, East of where the Tektites would be). Dig it!

@missypissy

I got the Ocarina ones (GameStop). Did anyone else get Skyward Sword or Twilight Princess?

I'm fairly in the dark on DLC, too. Didn't read the thread, so if someone else mentioned SS/TP, sorry.

@Mr_Mustache

What levels are you at to get where you are? I'm finally able to start playing more now and I'm eager to jump back in.

I nabbed the Twilight Princess DLC. I doubt I will buy the other ones once they release. If tomorrow is the day for the first true DLC pack, then I'm quite excited for that.

I got the OoT costumes as well but honestly, they are ugly. I probably would have gone with Twilight Princess but I'm not sure if they even had them here. Still, it's only costumes so I don't care too much.

Woo!

@VofEscaflowne

Nice! Is that "Complete" or "Opened"? The medals are missing from the shot.
10/16/14, 02:14
@DrFinkelstein

Yeah definitely not complete haha. Still missing some weapons from that shot and of course the heart pieces and Skultulas, 11 of which I still need to collect. Not too bad!
10/16/14, 02:16
@VofEscaflowne

I meant complete as in, you've achieved a medal in all challenges. Not completing everything from a collection point of view.
10/16/14, 02:42
@DrFinkelstein

Ah right, there's a few that don't have medals yet. I'll probably go do that with other characters since Link is already 99

@VofEscaflowne
Damn...that's impressive! I've still got the top row, a good chunk of the second row, and then probably 8ish tiles scattered left to unlock.
10/16/14, 16:57
@missypissy

I've still got 8 level 3 weapons to unlock but I think only 4 levels to actually get a medal on. I ran into a level that's just so damn annoying though. I couldn't even complete it with Link!

Update is live!

EDIT: Oh man, Master Quest map seems BRUTAL. SO MANY NEW OUTFITS THOUGH!

Ooh yeah, can't wait to download it tonight.

@VofEscaflowne
Congrats!

Only did two missions of Master Quest during my lunch break, one tasked me with killing "as many as I could" in 5 minutes (only managed a B-rank) and the second said my guard didn't work (which I don't use hardly anyways). Still, glad we get outfits from this one.

I also thought it was pretty cute how about 3 minutes are spent giving you individual unlocks once the DLC is installed.

ARG! I'm in the bottom row, second column... trying to get Zelda's weapon and unlock the bottom-left square... and I've come so close each time always just taking more damage than I should. Time and KOs has been fine... then I finally think I've done it when I DONT. I wonder why... and see this...

TWO FREAKING SECONDS! UN COOL! NOT FAIR! ARGAGAGRGARG!
10/17/14, 04:48
I had that happen one time too with probably the worst weapon in the game
