Hyrule Warriors Discussion (Nintendo Wii U) [game]

Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U

Welcome to the official discussion thread for Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U!

Through all the stories and all the timelines found in the Zelda series... nobody saw this coming. Koei Tecmo and Nintendo team up to take the Dynasty Warriors formula, toss in a lot of Zelda-franchise fan service, and blend that stuff together in a funky mish-mash of Zelda lore that only the Wind Fish could dream up. That game is called Hyrule Warriors.

I was admittedly hesitant on this title upon first announcement. I had no idea what the Dynasty Warriors franchise was all about. I knew I loved Zelda. It wasn't until the excellent Nintendo Direct (embedded below) which sold me on the idea. I'm seeing a lot of reviews, which started coming in today, and they seem to agree that this isn't much of a Zelda game. I have to point out, the name borrows the Warriors from Dynasty Warriors and not Zelda. This alone helps me see what Koei Tecmo and Nintendo were aiming for. This isn't going to be a Zelda main-line game nor is it striving to be. For what it's goals are, and for what Nintendo has contributed to it, I'm pretty excited myself and now there's less than 10 days remaining. The game releases on September 26th, 2014.

Fun Facts
1.) Sends Link and 12 other playable characters from various Zelda universes into other universes. Mixing things up!
2.) Loaded with various locales, enemies, bosses, items, and music from throughout the Legend of Zelda series.
3.) Series offers plenty of DLC options (detailed below).
4.) Tons of combos and special moves for each character.
5.) 2-player Co-Op (though I hear it's pretty hard on the Wii U processing)
6.) Unique 'Adventure Mode' taking players back into the NES' The Legend of Zelda for a mix of challenges and adventure! (at least on the map)

BTW I just noticed that Destiny and Hyrule Warriors have about the same scores on Gamerankings. Not that this says anything really, just kind of a weird thing to realize, that this uber hyped game and this game a lot were skeptical of ended up about in the same place scorewise. Of course, they probably won't be close saleswise.

I looked it up, not sure if someone mentioned back (tiptoeing around here..), but the first batch of DLC drops on October 16th.

I guess we're getting some freebie DLC around then, too? If you don't know what it is, don't speculate.

You guys are both farting around a lot more West than I am. I've been on the other side of the map primarily, though I just got access to a Harp and Waterbombs for the first time. I dig it. (I'm up around where Level 5 is, much closer to Fink's map.)

As for the Network Links, yeah, I've helped a few. Not sure how I show up for other people, or vice versa though. Seems random..

I mix up my characters that I use. I think my guys range from 21-32. I don't let ANYONE get out there. And I think Link is one of my LEAST favorite to use. Ruto is fighting hard for that title though..

And outside of who i have now (my +1 up there through "the split" in the Legend Storyline), I have -no idea- who else is there (I guess Agitha, whatevs). Spoiler tags still appreciated, thanks.

I learned really early that there's something particularly cool over West but I haven't seen what it is. So I was trying to discover that but I should probably head back East until I level up. My guys are at the same levels yours are, but Link is like 38 or 39. I like him but I also really like Impa.

@DrFinkelstein

I like him better with the Rod than the Sword. A lot.

Impa with her Fire stuff is my top character probably. She's been in the garage a little bit though lately. Again, spreadin' the ball around.

@Mr_Mustache

I was really digging that weapon too. Of all Link's weapons, that was a good one to include.

@Mr_Mustache

I got you on my map once but I don't remember if it was a map where I helped you out or whatever. I've never even gotten any rewards for someone helping me and for how much I've been playing it, I would've expected something by now.

Made progress today on a few levels and obtained a few weapons. Link's Silver Gauntlets was just obtained.

@DrFinkelstein

Very nice. I made a bunch today too but I'll probably try and clear out more instead of trying for As or Gold Skultulas or whatever. There's so many of them!

Went to unlock the level 3 gauntlets and wow the start of that level is insane! There's so many Poes to defeat but on the plus side, it's given me a good way to test out those gauntlets and wow are they awesome!

Progress so far

Yesterday I might have hit the point of playing too much HW, or too close to bed?

I'm on steroids and antibiotics this week so that could be messing with my mind, but I could not get to sleep for -hours- last night. I was in a somewhat hyper state and feeling that fast running forward motion, attacking, collecting, attacking, collecting... constant swooshing around in space. I did finally manage to drift off eventually only to wake up from a dream of more of the same, and then I layed awake in that same weird headspace until the sun came up.

I stuck to Etrian Odyssey 4 today. :p

@Infinitywave

Haha! I hate when games do that... I'm surprised this one hasn't honestly. Also I've seen you appear on my map a few times! I "helped" you out... or defeated you. I'm not sure. Look out for a bonus maybe?
10/07/14, 02:25
I've seen you on mine too! Not sure if I managed to complete that mission tile successfully or not. I haven't seen any bonuses yet but I'll keep an eye out! :)

Went ahead and bought the DLC for this game, so I'll just be sitting out on Shadows of Mordor. Tried my luck on the Hero difficulty and even being level 45 I couldn't get much done. Think I'll be spending some time running back through the story mode to get some hearts/skulltulas that I missed (along with rupees) and then head back into adventure mode.

I need to stop trying to perfect a run my first time through, it's really slowing me down in adventure mode.
10/07/14, 04:02
@missypissy

Yeah don't bother with Hero until you get better items. It took forever to kill King Dodongo on the first level but it was much more manageable when I tried again later with better items.
10/07/14, 04:04
Wow, after some more use and seeing some hate for her in a previous post, Fi is really good. I just love how her attacks have her almost dance around so large crowds can easily be controlled by simple attacks and then unleashing her attack at the end of it all. Very useful and I get in a ton of kills easily. Just unlocked her level 3 weapon too so she'll be even better!

Cleared a bunch of that adventure mode too.

@VofEscaflowne

I like Fi a lot also. And damn, nice progress there dude. I need to bump up my characters. What's been better for you for leveling up? Rupee mining, Adventure Mode, or Legend Mode? I beat the main story and have been playing Adventure mode but I feel like unless I can be Link right now (Level 40) most Adventures are a lot tougher than they should be.
10/07/14, 05:54
@DrFinkelstein

Yeah I haven't really touched the Legend Mode since I beat it aside from beating the first level on Hero so whatever levels I've gotten since have been in Adventure Mode. If I happen to have a weapon with a lot of slots and an extra mod that gives me more experience points, I'll add it to the weapon but I usually don't bother with it too much. Maybe once I've cleared the map and have all high end weapons, I'll create one that suits my grinding needs haha. There's still items I haven't even found! And Link is level 70 too... gotta max out the rest of those attack badges!
10/07/14, 06:01
Not too much left of adventure mode but I've been trying to find those damn Lizalfos Gauntlets. I would imagine Lizalfos drops them... but even with using a Material+ weapon, it just doesn't want to drop. I need at least 2 to finish Link's attack badges

Also I took this screenshot earlier that I thought was pretty cool. That Magical Rod is really good!

@VofEscaflowne

Very nice!

I made progress in the Adventure Mode but it'll be a little while till I can report to anyone. Busy busy the next week.
