Welcome to the official discussion thread for Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U!

Through all the stories and all the timelines found in the Zelda series... nobody saw this coming. Koei Tecmo and Nintendo team up to take the Dynasty Warriors formula, toss in a lot of Zelda-franchise fan service, and blend that stuff together in a funky mish-mash of Zelda lore that only the Wind Fish could dream up. That game is called Hyrule Warriors.

I was admittedly hesitant on this title upon first announcement. I had no idea what the Dynasty Warriors franchise was all about. I knew I loved Zelda. It wasn't until the excellent Nintendo Direct (embedded below) which sold me on the idea. I'm seeing a lot of reviews, which started coming in today, and they seem to agree that this isn't much of a Zelda game. I have to point out, the name borrows the Warriors from Dynasty Warriors and not Zelda. This alone helps me see what Koei Tecmo and Nintendo were aiming for. This isn't going to be a Zelda main-line game nor is it striving to be. For what it's goals are, and for what Nintendo has contributed to it, I'm pretty excited myself and now there's less than 10 days remaining. The game releases on September 26th, 2014.

Fun Facts
1.) Sends Link and 12 other playable characters from various Zelda universes into other universes. Mixing things up!
2.) Loaded with various locales, enemies, bosses, items, and music from throughout the Legend of Zelda series.
3.) Series offers plenty of DLC options (detailed below).
4.) Tons of combos and special moves for each character.
5.) 2-player Co-Op (though I hear it's pretty hard on the Wii U processing)
6.) Unique 'Adventure Mode' taking players back into the NES' The Legend of Zelda for a mix of challenges and adventure! (at least on the map)

Yeah, that one was pretty tough. I suggest killing the two small guys first. Then, go for the big one. Save your special attacks for when he gets up from being knocked down. Run between his feet and use it to do most of the damage needed to destroy his toes. For regular attacks, I suggest approaching from his side and using hit and run tactics. Get in two or three hits before backing off with a string of dodges. When his stomps get powered up and start sending out red shockwaves, you should run away sooner. Even if you're attacking one foot from the outside, the shockwave from his other foot can still reach you. Once you knock Demise over and you're attacking his weak point, I find that the attack where Fi fuses with the Sacred Flames before slashing works well. It's one of the last attacks you unlock for her. Maybe even the very last one. BBBBBY maybe? Anyway, be patient and lean on the side of caution. Cut the grass between keeps earlier in the stage for some extra hearts, and don't forget to check pots in the keep where you fight Demise.

If that still doesn't work, consider getting Fi some more upgrades and leveling her up a bit. Be sure to get her the 2 potion upgrade.

I found that against the imprisoned, a solid use of the X meter, whatever it's called, knocks out all toes at once. Then attacking for the next fall usually fills up my meter again. Rinse and repeat for an easy battle. That was just in one Adventure Mode stage though and I don't know if it applies to what you all are saying.

I tried that Imprisoned mission once and simply backed out after not being able to complete it. Without proper upgrades to Fi, I'm staying away from it for now. It also doesn't help that I don't even have a level 2 weapon unlocked for her so the whole process of taking down Imprisoned is really slow.

Get a Pro for co-op reasons. Keep it because it is a perpetual motion device.

That Fi mission makes me absolutely despise her.

The left control stick on my Wablet is acting funny. I'm having trouble moving my character up. I noticed it in Monster Hunter as well. Anyone have some tips on how to fix it?

It's not like the n64 problem where you could just unplug the controller and plug it back in. I fear this is only a problem that will get worse, and I'll never be able to move forward (literally and figuratively!). Help!

@DrFinkelstein

I've more or less said the same thing as you, but in more words.

@Anand
I bought one, and it is glorious!

@TheOldManFromZelda
Blargg. You might have to call Nintendo for that one. That sucks.
If you have a Pro controller, you can use it for the time being, maybe?

@ploot

That's an absolute last resort for me. It took them 3 weeks to fix it last time. I'm thinking there might be some dust. I'll have to get my air gun out.

That's weird. I'd first call Nintendo and see if there's some way to 'reset' the controller. And, if not, maybe have them fix it.

They might be able to send you a refurbished replacement wablet right now, and then you can just send yours off and forget about it. It seems to have given you a lot of trouble, anyway.

@Anand
Yeah, when my first Wii didn't work properly (wouldn't connect to the Internet) they sent me a new Wii along with a box to send the old one.
I didn't have to go Wiiless.

They should be able to do the same with the Gamepad.

@ploot

They offered no such option the first time I had to send it in. 3 weeks without it was rough. I'd rather just find my own solution.

Played the first two "missions". Really enjoying this game so far!

@missypissy You didn't already? What's wrong with you?

I've been enjoying this game for the most part, but there are some adventure missions that just piss me off. Some of the later ones strap you down with an AI ally that you have to keep alive, and if they die then you fail the mission. At best, they're stupid. At worst they're suicidal. Nothing is more infuriating than spending 20 minutes grinding on enemies to meet the arbitrary "enemies defeated" requirement for an A rank only for that AI partner to die while you're fighting the boss. 20 minutes down the drain because you were too busy trying to finish the level. It's almost contradictory. You have to go out and take keeps and kill enemies to get up to that A rank, but you also can't take too long either. But if you take the time to defend your stupid ally, you're not killing enough enemies or accomplishing the level's objectives. This runs counter-intuitive to the whole "one man army" feel that the rest of the gameplay is working so hard to create. I don't understand why this requirement would be included outside of the story mode considering that you already have to babysit your home base that is guarded by pathetically weak soldiers.

Ranting aside, Hyrule Warriors has been pretty good. The story mode is great, I like the selection of characters, and there's plenty of fanservice for Zelda fans. Adventure mode is a neat idea that overstays its welcome and kind of falls apart at the end. The game as a whole has surpassed my expectations and has been a very nice surprise.

@Hero_Of_Hyrule

Well said. I definitely can agree. I find that the best way to beat those kind of challenges is to get close to that damned 1,200 kills before the final boss battle but fighting to support the weak ally doesn't help. Then even when I'm back and forth managing, not taking damage, racking up the kills as quick as they load on the screen, the overall time is a B rank thus ruining your A. Total bummer.

@Hero_Of_Hyrule

I had the same problem in some of the Legend missions - I'm fighting the level boss on one side of the field, but all of my allies are dying miserably on the other side of the field, so I fail. I've had my home base "conquered" while I was fighting the boss in my home base. Figure that one out.

@TeamBrian1020

The bosses continuously deal damage to the base they're in. Or at least I had that happen with the King Dodongo in the first mission. In that case though, he slowly makes his way to the base and your objective is to stop him before he gets there. If he does get there, then that's your problem to begin with anyway.

As for the AI, they're useless as can be but once you realize how useless and defenseless they are, you can just take it into consideration and easily avoid those type of deaths. Always check the map to see if there's any areas that are flashing between blue and red. If a flag appears in a base, usually it means your home base is in danger. Allies will always warn you when they're about to die so don't ignore those message. A simple trip to them will heal them up and taking out the nearby enemies along with securing surrounding bases can stop it from occurring again. It might seem frustrating at first but there are definitely ways to prevent it.

I got my wablet to work properly last night. I laid it flat when I turned it on, so the analogue sticks weren't drooping down.

LOL [b]the moon. So awesome.

@TheOldManFromZelda

Yeah, that rocked. So glad I stayed away from the internet.

I shouldn't even be in this thread, truthfully. I didn't advanced Legend at all yesterday. Working my butt off on Adventure.

MAN. Is there a way to track how much damage you've taken on the "don't lose 4 hearts" Skulltulas? I SWORE I didn't lose 4 hearts on TWO 1200 KO Skulltulas last night, and neither of them popped up. GROAN.
