Through all the stories and all the timelines found in the Zelda series... nobody saw this coming. Koei Tecmo and Nintendo team up to take the Dynasty Warriors formula, toss in a lot of Zelda-franchise fan service, and blend that stuff together in a funky mish-mash of Zelda lore that only the Wind Fish could dream up. That game is called Hyrule Warriors.

I was admittedly hesitant on this title upon first announcement. I had no idea what the Dynasty Warriors franchise was all about. I knew I loved Zelda. It wasn't until the excellent Nintendo Direct (embedded below) which sold me on the idea. I'm seeing a lot of reviews, which started coming in today, and they seem to agree that this isn't much of a Zelda game. I have to point out, the name borrows the Warriors from Dynasty Warriors and not Zelda. This alone helps me see what Koei Tecmo and Nintendo were aiming for. This isn't going to be a Zelda main-line game nor is it striving to be. For what it's goals are, and for what Nintendo has contributed to it, I'm pretty excited myself and now there's less than 10 days remaining. The game releases on September 26th, 2014.

Fun Facts
1.) Sends Link and 12 other playable characters from various Zelda universes into other universes. Mixing things up!
2.) Loaded with various locales, enemies, bosses, items, and music from throughout the Legend of Zelda series.
3.) Series offers plenty of DLC options (detailed below).
4.) Tons of combos and special moves for each character.
5.) 2-player Co-Op (though I hear it's pretty hard on the Wii U processing)
6.) Unique 'Adventure Mode' taking players back into the NES' The Legend of Zelda for a mix of challenges and adventure! (at least on the map)

Why not sign up for a (free) account?

@ploot that and probably (mostly) cost cutting.

I think I figured out why Hyrule is constantly being overrun and conquered...the Hyrule Army is friggin' useless.

Not only that, but they have terrible morale and high cowardice.

I just beat the main story. I can't remember the last time I beat a game this fast, let alone a new game! It's not that it was quick either, but i played a TON this weekend. I also dabbled a lot in the Adventure Mode. I am really enjoying this game and now I'm able to experience more of the Adventure Mode. Just bought the DLC too which I hope will prove to be a good buy in the end to keep this game providing fun content for months to come.

I finished the game using Zelda in her Twilight Princess clothing (from my Amazon code). Felt fitting since she's kinda the true hero of the story (with the way Link gets involved and all).

@DrFinkelstein

Speaking of which, how do you switch out costumes? I've been trying to find the option but no luck.

When you select your character it should have an option for X to change the outfit. I saw the Ganondorf ones...don't look all that good. Didn't think I'd like the new Demise-ish look he was rocking, but it's pretty epic.

It's really sad how great Ganondorf feels in this game compared to how he is handled in Smash. I didn't think it'd bug me all that much, but he is beyond brutal feeling in this game.

@TeamBrian1020

Well yeah.

Remember in Twilight Princess when you go running around Castle Town in wolf form- What a bunch of chumps.

@TriforceBun

How does it keep up with the news like that?

Caved in and got that season pass. I wasn't too sure at first cause it makes it an expensive game in the end but there seems to be a lot of stuff going out through next year and I had the eShop credit... so why the hell not. I'm having so much fun with it already and I still haven't touched the adventure mode.

Just beat Legends Mode on Hard. Story starts out really, really weird but then starts drifting back towards standard Zelda stuff. The cutscenes do help the presentation a lot and I feel like they did a better job on Link than any game has in the past. He actually gets some human treatment, even if we do get the "Tales of" friendship is magic stuff. The story does eb and flow between the factions, which is a nice touch. No mroe start adventure, bad guy takes over and just waits around, then Link does LINK SMASH.

Tons of content, unlockables, and the leveling/badge system looks like it will take a lot of time to get everything. Will probably get the Season Pass. Didn't think I'd enjoy the game as much as I did, but I probably put in 15 hours since Friday night on this game.

Just beat the game today. This is seriously one of the most enjoyable games this year

@missypissy I have to admit, Midna outright bitchslapping Cia at one point is amazing.

Game is fun. I'm a little overwhelmed by the adventure mode, though. What's the best way to approach it?
09/30/14, 18:23
@anon_mastermind

I didn't touch it until I beat the main game. That way I had all characters unlocked for the extra items and getting As isn't really too hard.

@anon_mastermind

Just start doing open challenges. Pick a direction. Pay attention to power ups you want to collect so you can give yourself the option to search as much as you'll need. If you're having trouble getting a high rank on one, try getting to the next square by another means.

Good luck!

Damn that adventure mode gets ridiculous. I have a level where there's 2 bosses (Manhandla) and 3 characters against me (Lana, Link and Impa). It wants me to kill 700 enemies which are mostly around the bosses or characters and if I waste time on trying to kill them, I can't reach the goal. Crazy!

EDIT: Nope, can't do it unless I get better weapons for Ruto. Got stuck in a room with Manhandla blocking both exist and Link bashing on me.

Anyone done the adventure mode thing where you have to fight The Imprisoned during take your child to work day? I probably wouldn't be so annoyed with that mission if I could use a good Zelda character, (preferably one with more strong, focused attacks instead of a bunch of shitty AOE attacks) but instead I'm stuck with Fi (which in case you didn't know is short for Fucking annoying POS character from a POS game.)

I calculate a 97% chance that I will not enjoy this.
