Hyrule Warriors Discussion (Nintendo Wii U) [game]

Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U
8.25/10 from 11 user ratings

Welcome to the official discussion thread for Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U!

Through all the stories and all the timelines found in the Zelda series... nobody saw this coming. Koei Tecmo and Nintendo team up to take the Dynasty Warriors formula, toss in a lot of Zelda-franchise fan service, and blend that stuff together in a funky mish-mash of Zelda lore that only the Wind Fish could dream up. That game is called Hyrule Warriors.

I was admittedly hesitant on this title upon first announcement. I had no idea what the Dynasty Warriors franchise was all about. I knew I loved Zelda. It wasn't until the excellent Nintendo Direct (embedded below) which sold me on the idea. I'm seeing a lot of reviews, which started coming in today, and they seem to agree that this isn't much of a Zelda game. I have to point out, the name borrows the Warriors from Dynasty Warriors and not Zelda. This alone helps me see what Koei Tecmo and Nintendo were aiming for. This isn't going to be a Zelda main-line game nor is it striving to be. For what it's goals are, and for what Nintendo has contributed to it, I'm pretty excited myself and now there's less than 10 days remaining. The game releases on September 26th, 2014.

Fun Facts
1.) Sends Link and 12 other playable characters from various Zelda universes into other universes. Mixing things up!
2.) Loaded with various locales, enemies, bosses, items, and music from throughout the Legend of Zelda series.
3.) Series offers plenty of DLC options (detailed below).
4.) Tons of combos and special moves for each character.
5.) 2-player Co-Op (though I hear it's pretty hard on the Wii U processing)
6.) Unique 'Adventure Mode' taking players back into the NES' The Legend of Zelda for a mix of challenges and adventure! (at least on the map)

@gtarrant

Ah, thanks. Got it!

This is the first time I've seen the Club Nintendo code on the reverse of the cover. Is that a new thing or has it happened before? Not that I have much use for it anymore. Club Nintendo stinks hard lately.

@Koovaps

I think it's new. Perhaps to prevent people from stealing them from copies before truly being sold?

@Koovaps
Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright did the same thing.

I assume it's for the reason Fink mentioned.

Mannn, Great Fairy is totally sexy, so glad Nintendo got my letters.

Lana is rad, too. You just HAVE to prance around in circles after winning with her.

Oh, and I just played for like 10 hours. New Monster Hunter!

@DrFinkelstein

I think its a way to use even LESS materials. Nuts. I was legitimately surprised we had real instructions with the game.

EDIT- For the DLC Code folks; I got my Ocarina of Time code on my GameStop receipt, entered it before I even started my game and I've been playing with Link in Tunic '98 since. Just registered on Club Nintendo and my Ganondorf stuff is downloading now, too. Sorry you guys are having issues, that stinks.

EDIT2- Adventure Mode kicks my Brain (burned two Lanterns on the "Red Leevers" screen..missed it to both sides. UGH), Challenge Mode kicks my other end. The best I can do is about 350 guys in 5 minutes. BTW, Fire Rod is AWESOME. I only used it once, but when I did I was like "WHY DON'T I ALWAYS USE THIS!?" Reduced Gibdos to dust in about 3 seconds.

Boss Questions:
Is there a way to incur any real damage -or- force the way to do massive damage on Dodongo or Gohma? Watching them just DESTROY everything while you're waiting for their one move that you can actually counter (ie: bomb in mouth, arrow in blue eye) is pretty rough. I've tried a few things, but nothing else seems to work.

Enjoying the game very much. Anyone get 2P Legend Mode to work yet?? Intended on playing with the Mrs_ before she went off to work, but I ended up watch her play for 20 some-odd minutes while I did nothing, haha.

@Mr_Mustache

You do massive damage on bosses by exploiting the weak points, and hammering them til that circular meter is depleted. Then you deal a crushing blow. The rest of the time, they are all just damage sponges.

@Mr_Mustache

Playing with Ganon is really good for the "defeat X amount of enemies" challenges, due to the high amount of AOE damage.

The way to defeat the King Dodongo is the same way you defeat it in any regular Zelda game. But if you don't want to wait for him to suck up your bombs you can force the weak point gauge to appear if you use your magic meter to power up your attack, by pressing r, and doing a mousou attack (a) if I'm not mistaken

@TheOldManFromZelda

Oh, yeah, I know that. But, what I was asking, like..can you shoot an ARROW in Dodongo's eye to have him open his mouth, or perhaps bomb Gohma to leave his eye blue or something. I don't know. Fighting a tank isn't very fun.

--OH! And Lou, did you SEND ME help yesterday on the Adventure Mode, or did you just pop up automatically to help me? I've only seen you (a Wii U friend) on the Adventure Mode map, so I'm unsure how it works.

@Jotthah

Ah HA. I like that. Will employ next outing. I've just been doing the normal A, hoping that it does SOMETHING. Really getting the hang of this thing. I was whipping around late late last night, but I'll be playing with my eyes closed next week.

@Mr_Mustache
Trish and I played co-op last night.
The first stage has to be played in single player, then you can add a partner after that.

The weird thing is, during the second stage I played as Impa, but there was also a computer controlled Impa. Sort of silly.

Also, the game plays awfully with the remote/nunchuk combo. I might buy a pro controller today for co-op reasons.

Stayed up til nearly 5am playing this game last night, great time killer. Quickly put the game on Hard and having a lot of fun with it. I love the throwbacks to the series that they've included and there is a lot of content to find and unlock it looks like. Not sure I'll jump on the "Season Pass" just yet, but still got time.

This game has eaten my whole day.

I wish there was voice acting though.
09/28/14, 01:53
@DrFinkelstein
Yeah, it would have been a practical addition since reading what they're saying while in the middle of a battle is cumbersome.
09/28/14, 03:39
Just watched the Giant Bomb Quick Look.

Dang, game looks way cooler than I would have thought! I guess there's something to be said for that Zelda fan service.
09/28/14, 03:51
Please tell me they don't make a habit out of having Bosses like gohma who can just fucking warp right into your home base because that's just cheap as hell.
09/28/14, 04:04
@New Forms

Time continues to fly by. You just don't notice it because you're so involved in the battling. It's awesome.
09/28/14, 04:19
I made it to the part when the game's plot explains how all these characters and areas can exist together. Makes about as much as sense as anything.
09/28/14, 04:38
I need to keep working towards the story mode. I'm having too much fun in Adventure Mode though. Are new Adventure Maps part of the DLC? That could definitely sway me into buying... but it would also depend on the rewards on that map.
09/28/14, 22:39
Are the badges passive powers that are always on or do I have to do something to activate their effects? Fusing weapons is baffling me too - I don't see any benefits from it. Might stem from not having ever played a Dynasty Warriors game before.
09/28/14, 23:37
@TeamBrian1020

Badges should always be on I think. As for fusing, sometimes you'll get a weapon with open slots and a high attack rating, only then does it seem worthwhile to really do.

What I want to know is.... what does this art mean on the Master Sword which is locked at 25,000. "Seal Requires The Power Of All Weapons". It wont unlock by defeating enemies like the rest.... hmm..
09/28/14, 23:42
@DrFinkelstein
The only thing we know is that the DLC adds "Adventure Maps" in three of them, but no idea what that means.

Also, for the Master Sword, I looked up and saw "You need to get everything, basically. All characters, all their weapons and all Lvl 3 upgrades for the weapons."

Good luck. /Star Fox
