@GameDadGrant Ah, okay, that makes sense, thank you for explaining. I can see the contrast in those posts and why they would seem funny, and I probably am being a bit harsh on the 3DS game. It just isn't a kind of situation I would prefer.

Yeah, that's cool - I've said it before, and I'll say it again: you gotta go with what you like. (as an individual) You know your tastes better than anyone, so you may as well follow your gut.

That's basically the reason I'm leaning towards the 3DS version and just forgetting about the Wii U version altogether. (pending any cool connectivity stuff Sora/Namco throw in there) I can get the game for cheaper than the console game, it's packed to the gills with content, it looks AMAZING, *and* I can play it both at home (in any room in the house) AND while I'm out and about. I'm not sure what the Wii U version could possibly offer me that would make it a better product in my eyes. But if anyone could figure out a "hook" to reel me in, it would be Sakurai.

@GameDadGrant It sounds like you also would prefer both versions to be more unique from each other, so we may have that opinion in common.

@Mop it up

Yeah. I mean, they kind of are different from each other (exclusive stages, modes, features, etc) but also kind of not (same character roster, some of the same music, same basic gameplay). It would be nice if they were more unique, but I'm not sure how they could pull that off well.

@GameDadGrant

I still think we'll see some interesting unique modes on WiiU. They need something to blow out in a Direct to get people hyped prerelease.

@Jargon

In Sakurai we trust.

Remember Wii Motion Plus, most games that used that weren't Nintendo game either, Nintendo doesn't
seem to like using their consoles features how we think there going to use them, unlike other companies.

So playing the demo I decided that because Mega Man actually clicks with me that I might as well see where that takes me.

Maybe he'll end up as my secondary, who knows.

I don't even think I like the 3DS version of this game and I've put 4 hours into the demo. Something is wrong with me.

It'll be hard not to get this version if the online is decent. I feel like it's going to sap my interest from the Wii U version. At least between Mario Lart 7 and 8 I had a pretty big gap in time. Getting all the characters, hearing the music, etc...I still feel like I want to experience all that in the Wii U version.

Few random comments:

I realized that Mega Man's up-tilt has a "Sweet-spot" effect kinda like Luigi's up-special or Jigglypuff's Sing. Pretty awesome.

Throws are actually useful again! They were so nerfed in Brawl it was laughable. Now you can KO with throws, it adds that extra element to the game.

Mario's cape seems a lot stronger than in Brawl. Fludd is still pretty crap though.

Link's dash attack is super good. So is Pikachu's. Pikachu got tweaked a lot. It seems his thunder and down-smash are nerfed but his quick-attack is actually a good move now.

Villager has such interesting attacks but he's not clicking with me. Not a fan of his aerials, but Lloid rocket is super awesome.

Megaman's tornado thing - I think it's just his standard up+A attack or something....has anyone found it to be way overpowered? I feel like every time I manage to use it, it KO's someone.

@PogueSquadron

You mean his Up+A move when he's in the air?

I can't even seem to land a bit with it, unless I get it just by blind luck. But the people I'm playing with may just be good at avoiding my attack - they probably know I'm going to use it when I do, lol.

God(s), I love this demo so much. I've been ratcheting up the difficulty on the CPU until I can beat a Level 9 with everybody. Super-fun. It really makes me appreciate this handful of characters. I almost wish the real game doled out characters at this pace. Then I might end up using more than three or four.

I guess the 3DS and Wii U versions kind of step on each other's toes, but, damn, what a fun game to play when you're out and about. Finally, a mainstream alternative to handheld Mario Kart. Plus, online. And Smash Run. I'm down.

Are people generally reporting good things about online play? I've read that if you have a good connection, you should really only experience a little buffer delay a couple times a match or something. Anyone have hands on experience? If this plays well online, then I really don't know what I'll do.

(Also afraid that once the Wii U version is out, I wouldn't really play the 3DS one much).

This demo does a great job of teaching you to appreciate each character. If you can get hours of enjoyment out of 5 characters and 1 stage, image how much you could get out of the full game if you tried.

If I had immediately been given access to the starting roster, I might have passed the Villager off as a quirky character who's not for me. But I was able to get past the initial feeling and come to appreciate the character. Now he's tied for my second favorite character in the demo. I don't know if that would've happened if I had dozens of other characters at my fingertips.

@DrFinkelstein

I've come to a point where the default button set up in the demo is becoming second nature to me. This is a bad thing. When I set the buttons to my "normal" set up, I feel like I'm not going to be used to it.

Gah, the full game needs to be out now! So I can take advantage of customized controls and get away from the default set, lol!

@DrFinkelstein

I just realized something. If we can meet up next weekend, we'll be able to play the full version together! EXCITE!

Sigh. I am so fucking torn about buying this (before Wii U version). Like, I personally feel there's no way for it not to spoil the Wii U version and possibly create fatigue. It just can't feel as fresh. Even if it has different stages, music, and will basically feel drastically different with controls and big screen and HD visuals.

I'd much rather play the 3DS version after.... It's either wait it out or buy and play little of it. I also have Hyrule Warriors and Alien Isolation next week (PC since no PS4). Alien Isolation will own me.

Maybe it's best to wait for the 3DS version? I'm sooooooo torn.
