@Jargon No, but I've heard of things like account hacks, stolen credit cards, games removed from the service, and unable to transfer games to the PS4/XBONE. It's really more the lower cost of retail versions that gets me to buy them since I'm cheap (I have some games that are digital-only), but when I read things in the terms of service about how they have the right to remove your games at any time for any reason, it doesn't fill me with confidence about what might happen in the future. Probably nothing, but I'm not willing to take that chance, at least not when it isn't offered at a good discount. I also view games as an investment, and if I get into trouble then I like knowing I'm able to sell my games if I need cash. Digital games have a resale value of $0. I understand if this makes me seem paranoid, but I've always been one to be extra careful. |

@Jargon Yeah, I don't even use credit cards unless I have to, but, hearing about that info being compromised doesn't instill me with confidence. I don't have my info stored on Wii/U or 3DS either, I use retail cards to add money. I know that removed games can still be downloaded, but I can't help but wonder if even that will be removed eventually too. I actually thought there was a case where a game couldn't even be redownloaded, but, I can't find it in a search right now. The thing about transferring games to PS4/XBONE is, I often hear one advantage about digital is that the games will always be available and playable. And that's certainly true with Steam, you get a new computer and you can still play all your games. But people assumed the same for PS4 and XBONE, that they could transfer their accounts and still play all their stuff. But of course that didn't happen, and I don't think MS and Sony are going to keep running the shops for PS3 and Xbox 360 indefinitely. There may not be indication right now of this stuff disappearing, but it's relatively new, and so I'm waiting for it to prove itself over more than one generation. I was actually a bit annoyed that there wasn't more outrage over the lack of backwards compatibility in the PS4 and XBONE, especially since people complained about the way Nintendo handled backwards compatibility with the Wii U. But I guess this isn't the time or place for that. I guess what I really mean by "safer" is that I feel it's a safer option for me, since digital games have no real value and may not be available in 10 years or beyond. I know that things can happen to physical games but that's my responsibility, and I trust myself above all else. |
