As of right now, I have the physical copy pre-ordered. But, I'm still not sure if I'll just buy the digital copy at the last minute and put the money I have on Gamestop towards something else.

I'm pretty much all digital nowadays when it comes to the games I buy.

Physical, just in case I want to re-sell it once the Wii U version comes out.

Digital. I'm in the same boat as @GameDadGrant.

Still not 100% sure if I'll buy the 3DS version or not but I'm thinking digital makes more sense. That's a game I'd alwayd want on the console for sure.

I'm buying a physical copy for my girlfriend and I'll get a digital copy for myself.

100% digital.

Digital 3DS (if I get that version at all, dunno yet) and physical Wii U because I have a feeling I'll sell it after Smash Brothers Wii Z comes out next console cycle. I rarely keep my older version of Smash Bros. when a new one hits. No reason to, really.

Physical until they link games to our accounts... not changing my mind on that one.

I buy physical everything because it's often cheaper and safer.

Gotta go digital. I need it always.

Let's get physical. Physical.

Edit: I was trying to post a ditto pic. I failed.

It depends on the demo. If it works on my broken 3DS then I will buy it digitally. If not, I'll buy it physically and play it on my wife's 2DS until I upgrade to a New 3DS.

@Mop it up

Safer? Only on Nintendo consoles. Less safe generally.

@Jargon From what I know of MS and Sony platforms, I don't trust them either. Only Steam seems trustworthy.

@Mop it up

Have you ever heard of anyone losing their games on one of those platforms? Even on Nintendo platforms, I've never heard of anyone failing to get their digital games back after something happened to their system, it just takes some unnecessary rigamarole.

Meanwhile, we all know of examples of a disc getting scratched, lost, stolen, etc.

@Jargon No, but I've heard of things like account hacks, stolen credit cards, games removed from the service, and unable to transfer games to the PS4/XBONE.

It's really more the lower cost of retail versions that gets me to buy them since I'm cheap (I have some games that are digital-only), but when I read things in the terms of service about how they have the right to remove your games at any time for any reason, it doesn't fill me with confidence about what might happen in the future. Probably nothing, but I'm not willing to take that chance, at least not when it isn't offered at a good discount. I also view games as an investment, and if I get into trouble then I like knowing I'm able to sell my games if I need cash. Digital games have a resale value of $0.

I understand if this makes me seem paranoid, but I've always been one to be extra careful.

Having your credit card information compromised in this day and age is at worst a slight inconvenience. Any money will be paid back and you just need to get a new card issued. I suppose if you're not careful about checking your statement it could lead to lost money, but you're extra careful so it shouldn't be a problem.

Games removed from the service are still downloadable and playable by people who already bought them. It's no different than a game being pulled from the shelf at a retailer.

You can't transfer physical PS3/360 games to PS4/XB1 either.

Your financial reasons are legitimate, at least on Nintendo consoles, though.

@Jargon Yeah, I don't even use credit cards unless I have to, but, hearing about that info being compromised doesn't instill me with confidence. I don't have my info stored on Wii/U or 3DS either, I use retail cards to add money.

I know that removed games can still be downloaded, but I can't help but wonder if even that will be removed eventually too. I actually thought there was a case where a game couldn't even be redownloaded, but, I can't find it in a search right now.

The thing about transferring games to PS4/XBONE is, I often hear one advantage about digital is that the games will always be available and playable. And that's certainly true with Steam, you get a new computer and you can still play all your games. But people assumed the same for PS4 and XBONE, that they could transfer their accounts and still play all their stuff. But of course that didn't happen, and I don't think MS and Sony are going to keep running the shops for PS3 and Xbox 360 indefinitely. There may not be indication right now of this stuff disappearing, but it's relatively new, and so I'm waiting for it to prove itself over more than one generation.

I was actually a bit annoyed that there wasn't more outrage over the lack of backwards compatibility in the PS4 and XBONE, especially since people complained about the way Nintendo handled backwards compatibility with the Wii U. But I guess this isn't the time or place for that.

I guess what I really mean by "safer" is that I feel it's a safer option for me, since digital games have no real value and may not be available in 10 years or beyond. I know that things can happen to physical games but that's my responsibility, and I trust myself above all else.

Digital...for the first time EVER. I love physical media, but the convenience of always having Smash 3DS equipped on my system is just too strong. I'll always have something to play on the go, no matter what.

For Wii U though, definitely physical.

I don't plan on getting this version..that may change but I just want the Wii U version for now..

I like physical copies....but I downloaded Mario Kart 8 because I had cards from xmas and Pikmin 3 (as it was free) and I'm enjoying the fact that I can jump in and play MK for quick races/online fun.

I'm seriously considering buying Smash Wii U digitally - probably one of the last digital wii u games for me(other then VC/Wii U ware games) because Smash IS quick battles - Online or otherwise. It was a bit of a pain putting MK wii and Brawl disks every time the NW crew decided to meet up..

That, and the physical copies are not 'special' anymore. Manuals are practically nil and we never get anything like Japan bundled with the game. If I plan on getting a game at launch or near launch (ie: Xmas) then buying digitally is the same price as going to the store..
