So you may or may not have known this, but Chicago is getting its own indie game festival. This makes me excited. It's also no big surprise to me because it is being run by people who hang out at the same things I do, but it's sort of a surprise in the sense that all I knew was *something* was going on. And some of my friends will be DJing there.
Where: Threadless HQ, 1260 W MADISON ST When: Saturday Sep. 6th, 2pm to midnight (after 7 pm = live music, beer, etc.) Price: FREE (though $10 donation requested)
Hmmm, neato! Can't quite commit just yet, but it seems really cool. I'll see if I can't keep that evening open. I do work, so I'd get there later, but with plenty of time to enjoy myself, I'm sure.
Hmmm, would be a ten hour drive for me, but that wouldn't be out of the question if I could show off [REDACTED GAME THAT I'M WORKING ON]. I suppose the game list is final, though?
@Koovaps Keep in mind that from 2 to 7 it is kid / family friendly.
@Secret_Tunnel I'm not 100% sure if it is final, but I think for the most part the games fit into two categories... stuff with a fair amount of buzz, and Chicago stuff. And even the Chicago stuff is mostly stuff with some buzz. I think they ended up rejecting a lot of stuff. But I'm not 100% sure about that.
Looks like they don't have room for any more games, but I might think about going anyway if I can find a friend to drive up there with and a place to stay while there.
@Secret_Tunnel Just so happens I'll have my apartment by then.
SCORE.
Um... except I don't know how furnished it will be at that point. I'm planning on doing a soft move right away and then figuring out the rest over time.
Where are you at?
PS. I'm actually going to be a volunteer at this thingy.
Well, I'd have a place to stay for you + friend, though you might have to sleep on a blow-up mattress or something because I don't know if I will have a couch yet at that point. And it's a bit out from the city too, a bit of a commute to get to the fun stuff. Unfortunately I no longer have a car either... though I might borrow one that day...
You mean include your game? As far as I can tell there are only 3 games from the Chicago scene there... and only 1 of those from someone not part of the fest committee (Relativity.) I think it is more about indie in general than Chicago itself.
