I was expecting them to be $9.99 at most. I wasn't expecting $12.99. I was honestly hoping for $4.99, near the Pokemon figures that also have NFC compatibility. But, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt to see them in person and gauge the quality plus, I'd like to know all that they are able to do, before I give final judgment on the price.

They're worthless skylanders style crap.

12.99 is more than I'm willing to pay for all but about 3 or 4 particular characters.

Pit
Palutena
Dillon
Maaaaaaaaybe Samus.

I'd have to see what they do. I could maybe see myself picking up one for my favorite character but it's an absurd price to me in terms of "collecting em all".

So yeah, can't jump on that if all they do at the moment is unlock some arbitrary difficulty level in Smash Bros.

I don't know. I mean, even basic action figures are like $10 at TRU nowadays so it isn't that steep if it is a figure and more. But how much more? I mean, don't you just get junk that could easily be free / cheap DLC or something?

The only good thing I see from these is that there will finally be action figures for some Nintendo characters that don't have them.

Still kind of seems pricey though. I know I said most action figures are at least $10 nowadays but that seems pricey too.

Yes.

I'd like to have more details on what these things are actually capable of, but right now they seem to be some sort of cross between a memory card and a content unlocking device, which is pretty ridiculous even at a lower price. Maybe they can do all sorts of crap that Nintendo haven't told us about yet for some reason, but I'm not exactly expecting these things to make me a pot roast or compliment my choice of pants.

@r_hjort

I would pay a hundred dollars for a Palutena who complimented my choice of pants.

For simple figures, they may be like a buck or 2 too expensive... But depends on the functionality. What does it do? Otherwise the figure look like good quality stuff. :)

Yes, but I also think they'll be marketed towards kids and not really meant for me.

@kriswright Don't you have a wife for that?

...

I would pay 100 dollars for a Palutena costume that fits my wife.

Suddenly I feel a get-rich-quick-scheme coming on.

@pokepal148
They're not out yet.

Sounds a little expensive but I've seen MORE expensive Nintendo figures that sucked hard ass. They didn't look like this, didn't communicate with a game, and didn't communicate with multiple games.

They look to be quite high quality figures. If anything, I could almost be surprised they're not MORE expensive.

2 bucks won't make a huge difference to me. They will be pricey either way. These figures will definitely cost approximately 25 US dollars over here in Brazil. Toys and action figures can't escape the wrath of our taxes either.

Still, I'm definitely going to find a way to get Amiibos for at least my 3 favorite characters.

Eh, not really. Collectibles that actually do something? I'm okay with this. Then again, I own twelve Disney Infinity figures, so I'm probably the wrong guy to ask...
09/01/14, 02:52
Just like the Game Pad, Nintendo doesn't seem like it 100% knows what to do with these things, yet they're tossing them out into the market.

Don't get me wrong as I adore my Wii U to bits, but Nintendo seems like they don't have a concrete game plan lately.
09/01/14, 02:56
I'd say they're a tad bit expensive, but not overly expensive. Could be a lot cheaper though I suppose.
09/01/14, 02:57
Maybe slightly too expensive, but not as bad as I feared. I voted the third option.

As is, I'm really only interested in a handful. I'll DEFINITELY get Ness and Mega Man, and I'll probably get Pit and Palutena. Kirby and Dedede are maybes, and the rest are unlikely.

To Kickstarter we go, gentlemen!

Honestly? Kind of. I think $9.99 would have been perfect.

Of course, I'm still going to buy them all, ha.
09/01/14, 05:34
No. I paid $3.50 for a bottle of water at a baseball game on Saturday.
09/01/14, 09:16
@ploot That's why they seem kind of expensive to me. If they outlined what this thing does in maybe 5 or 6 games, then I'd be able to see more value in them.

And yeah, as toys, they don't seem that bad. If you look at this as "it's a toy but you get bonuses in your video games" it's not all that bad. Just would like to know what those bonuses are.
09/01/14, 15:29
Not even a little. They priced their product squarely in line with the competing products. Just like with Skylanders and Infinity figures, I imagine these will routinely go on sale as well.
