9.51/10 from 19 user ratings

Welcome to the official discussion thread for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!
The game doesn't release at retail till early October, but gamers can begin playing this title soon if they buy a special edition Wii U next week. That said, Welcome to the official discussion thread for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD! Whether you're someone who played and beat this game back in 2003, or maybe you're new and eager to get your Link wet, come here to discuss the game!

IGN.com just released their review and I believe that makes it the first review score for the title. What did they give it? You might not be surprised, but you can look at their review here. For the lazy,... 9.8/10

I have fond memories of picking the original game up from my non-standard Gamestop the night before release. They opened the doors at 10pm and let us get the game early just as the box literally arrived. I don't understand why things went down like that but I was always proud that I was nerdy enough to have been the first person to leave that Gamestop with Zelda that night. Now, I have it pre-ordered at another Gamestop, my normal one, because I want that badass statue offer. As Carlosrox continues to point out, the game looks beautiful and now that I've had an awesome Samsung HDTV for a little less than a year now, I am excited to finally embrace HD with Zelda and see how beautiful this game is at 40 inches and 1080p.

Bring it on Nintendo. I have what it takes.

I guess that's the thing for me - I never found that aspect of Wind Waker fun. I like exploring but not if it takes forever with little payout. You have to get bait and talk to the fish to do your map and I just found it kind of excruciating. Could you imagine having to jump hoops to fill up your map in any other Zelda game? I get it from an immersion standpoint but it just wasn't fun for me.

And honestly the last thing I wanted was to get sidetracked at that point in the game. You don't have a warp which is annoying, and you'll likely spend hours sailing around and finding places that you can't do anything until later in the game (since at this point you only have basically two major items). I always felt that that part of the game was pretty badly designed.

EDIT: I'll tell you what, man. You've attacked me three times over the last few days without provocation now. I have no idea who you are or why you've got me in your sights, but I've noticed the trend at this point.

What I can say, though, is that if you don't think I'm funny, you're free to have that opinion. You can drop me from your friends list on Miiverse and never see my stupid jokes again. That is, if I don't get to Miiverse first.

Also, I invite you to write some articles around here that are funnier than the ones I've written. I'd be happy to read those and I'm sure they'd be good for Negative World.

@PogueSquadron

Fair enough. I do think the Swift Sail makes things considerably faster though (and easier, with the auto-wind change).

I just found a triforce chart and I don't even have the master sword yet. Sequence breaking ftw I guess.

@kriswright behold the power of satire.

Oh and some fun reaction thing I did to DKC:Tf

And this horrific monstrosity in response to a certain NWR listener mail thing.

@pokepal148

The first paragraph of the Tropical Freeze thing + the image made me laugh.

Pretty funny.

...and I could go on. Do I need to link to all 25 iterations of my Talk to Boys advertisements, the dozens of Swapnote 3D News items I circulated for over a year, or any of the hundred of silly spur-of-the-moment Photoshops I've done? My advocacy for Dog Football? My contributions to the SEGA April Fools Day event? The many hours I've spent joking it up in chat, including heckling E3 presentations (Flo-rida!)? How about I go old school and bring out the Wii Lobby Activity Book from IGN? Or that time I made an animation of Pluton stealing an Eggplant Wizard's purple ass?

How about my webcomic? Wait. Forget I mentioned that.

Point is, you can say you don't like the comedy callback I did to the "bad vacation" gag in Wind Waker. Fine. Not everyone is going to like everything. (Though I should mention that repetition can sometimes be the whole structure of a funny joke. For the record.) But don't attack my sense of humor or lecture me on what does and doesn't qualify as comedy. At this point, I think I have proven that I have as much of an idea about that as anyone else around here.

Except for T-Bun and Gamewizard. I know when I'm beat.

Got the master sword and all things considered this game as a whole has only one thing over TP.

It actually has dungeons that seem to keep you using all of your items.

Other then that it may take the second worst Zelda slot (based on what i've played) from OOT. (Although I don't think it can possibly top SS.)

To be honest outside of the boat WW, especially in dungeon design, feels closer to OOT then TP does.

I don't understand what is going on here but Kris' stuff is hilarious and some of the best stuff on NW. I know it's not just me that thinks this either because it is also some of the stuff that gets the most hits too, which I'm assuming is coming from people passing it around and stuff, because not THAT many random people stumble upon NW content.

This is too surreal.
@kriswright is so funny (and clever) that I actually think he has created an alt account called @pokepal148 to fake-troll himself in a splendid piece of Kaufman-esque performance art. Bravo Kris, bravo.

That certainly sounds like the kind of thing Kris would do.

OOOooohh, looks like things are finally getting good!
08/03/14, 17:16
@Super_Conzo That and to use it as an excuse to post a list of his best work! Brilliant!

Makes me wonder how many people here are actually his alts...
08/03/14, 20:53
@Mop it up

It's only you and me, here. Will you marry me?

Actually, as much as I'd like to take credit for being some sort of brilliant Andy Kaufman, I should mention that I'd never be able to bring myself to attack Wind Waker to the degree Pokepal has been doing. Not even with an alt.

Also, his links are all to NWR and everyone knows I'm too lazy to go to another website than this one.

I didn't think it was possible to actually be a message board heckler, but here we are.

Ultimately, I'm just sad I missed this Tingle Bottle kriswright tomfoolery. Sounds like fun!
08/03/14, 23:41
And here I am all prepared for trouble.
08/03/14, 23:48
@kriswright

I checked them out. There was a poll asking who at Nintendo had the biggest package, one saying the vikings in DKC:TF are actually Minnesota Vikings' players, and another one that I'm not even sure is a joke because it just looks like sarcastic complaining about Nintendo's VC selection. I don't think any of them had more than 10 replies.

I would also like to say that the prospect of reading kriswright messages while playing Wind Waker has greatly move WW up my to do list.

I guess Kris's humor sorta, didn't float with me on that occasion,

[ref=id=10368&pagenumber=12#413066]@PogueSquadron[/ref] Well I'm getting outta here and making that double.

[ref=id=10368&pagenumber=12#413072]@Stephen[/ref] That third one is a little bit of satire/humor inspired by Sega's stance on Virtual Console. Heck I even loosely based that articles structure on the NWR story on that subject. My style of humor in general tends to lean on satire.

Both of those two are examples of me (ok screw it this url thing isn't working,)[/ref]making fun of

something going on

in the NWR forums[/ur].

I even gave Gui a nice, amusing little birthday wish thing (sadly nobody else on NWR wanted him to have a happy birthday.)

The Vikings one is really unpolished tbh and could have used a bit of work. It would help if I actually payed attention to sports.

In Wind Waker news, I made it to a dungeon (Tower-in-middle-of-ocean Dungeon) so things are getting good again. Yay!

I got so many sidequest options on Windfall but I've already forgotten them. Who cares, dungeon time!
