Welcome to the official discussion thread for Mario & Luigi: Dream Team on the 3DS!

It's that time for another Mario and Luigi RPG! For those disappointed in Paper Mario Sticker Star, this game might be more of what you're looking for and it comes out TODAY!

I actually was going to hold off on the game for a few weeks for financial reasons as well as the fact I'm busy with life and games... then I considered using a Target gift card I have to buy it... and then I got an e-mail confirming Amazon's shipment... so I forgot I pre-ordered it.

So it'll be here Monday! While I wont be able to play it immediately, I am quite excited. Oh how I love Mario-RPGs. Use this thread to discuss the game if you're buying it!

@gojira

You have problem. You need MORE BEEF!

Yeah, that was a small part. My main problem with that part and this series is 'Bros.' movies in the overworld. Twist jump here, spin jump there, rinse repeat for no good reason. It's all so tedious. And then you go into the dream world which has some of that stuff, but usually it's tied to a bit of a puzzle so it's not so annoying. Except for the volcano one where you need to switch from hot to cold. Maybe the first time you do switch it can take the whole animation of Luigi's hand and everything switching over. But after that it should just be instant.

And then it ended with a big Luigi boss fight. Which is cool in concept, but is annoying because it's touch based. We should be well beyond games that make me want to scribble on the screen to do moves. And an input always seems to not register at the point you really need it to do so.

I made good progress in Luigi's Mansion 2 the past two days and I also completed the Mario & Luigi puzzle on streetpass. Both have got me revved up as this being my next brand new 3DS game. It looks like a lot of fun.

@gojira completely agree about the Luigi animations, two seconds starts to feel like an age.

At 28 hours I've had a blast with this game but I hope it's not going to trail me along for too much longer. My attention is drifting, especially with Duel Destinies going on sale this Thursday!

I woke up the Zeekeeper and we're heading into Neo Bowser's Castle now...so I think I'll be done with this one very soon.

@ludist210 I'm waking the Temple Masters in the Woods right now, am I far behind you?

@Super_Conzo

No, you're hot on my heels.

Just finished battle no. 1 with Kamek. Couldn't work out his attack pattern at all!
Also, those wind-up Bowser enemies are troublesome. I'm burning through my mushrooms. lol

@Super_Conzo

I'm a little ahead of you...I've fought him twice now and just earned Luigi's last Bros. Attack. The second time, just remember to stomp the Dry Bones when the mob comes at you. You can use them to attack him.

As for the Mechakoopas, their pattern isn't too difficult once you know what to look for.

  • When they come in a line shooting fire at you (you can move freely before they attack), start at the top and slowly move to the bottom as they shoot fire. If you time it right, you should be able to jump on/over the last in line. Go back to the top and repeat.
  • When they surround you and attack from all sides, they only do it one of two ways. If they're electrocuted, they'll attack from the side opposite where they started from (i.e. if they started on the left, they'll go behind you and hit from the right). If they're normal, they'll only do a head-on assault. Just hammer them to make them go away/defeat them.
  • When they attack one at a time, they either jump at you (which normal/not electrocuted Mechakoopas tip-off by jumping before they run forward) or just run in a line at you. Jump to avoid the dash, stay on the ground to avoid their jump attacks. Electrocuted Mechakoopas are the opposite.

    @ludist210
    Yeah, it was the jumping that got me. Just when I though I had it worked out, one of the electrocuted dudes did the opposite! So my brain packed it's suitcase and left.

    Finished the game last night. I came to realize why I didn't like the Giant Luigi fights towards the end of the game, and that's because they reminded me of the airship fights in Skies of Arcadia Legends (which I didn't like at all), but it was fine. The second-last boss was a push-over, but the final boss almost handed me my lunch several times. Fortunately, strong Bros. Attacks prevailed!

    @ludist210 I must admit that I disliked the last Giant Luigi battle - with the ZeeKeeper - tilt controls were a mess.

    I'm due my 3rd battle with Kamek soon. Oh and the Dry Bones did the business in my last fight, cheers.

    ARGH! 10 minutes of solid mega-Luigi work completely undone (AGAIN) by terrible tilt controls!

    I lost twice in that fight, but once you knock him in the lava, the fight's practically over...but make sure you have decent health. He attacks again once he's "dead".

    Got finished up last night. Had a frustrating time with the final boss until I tinkered with my badge power (reducing his DEF) and then it was quite straightforward. Had a good chuckle at the Zeekeepers final message and the end credits were a delight... although perhaps I was just relieved that I could finally move on to something else. 39 hours? Yikes!

    @Super_Conzo

    Yeah, I like RPGs but this one went on a little long for a Mario & Luigi game. I spent 37 hours with Bowser's Inside Story, but I did absolutely everything that there was to do in that one. I did not 100% this game and really don't foresee myself doing that.
    03/06/14, 16:09
    This game is way too long and now the final final boss is a fucking bitch. I'm so sick of this game right now.
    07/12/14, 09:06
    I'm getting started with this today but now I wonder if I should go for Bowser's Inside Story instead, I am far from the biggest lover of RPG's so am worried that this might be overly long.
    06/23/15, 13:52
    Haven't played this game yet but Bowser's Inside Story is awesome and should definitely be experienced.
    06/23/15, 15:12
    @warerare
    I defo recommend Inside Story over this.
    This one drags-ass and might put you off altogether. Inside Story is the tighter, more fun experience.
