Neat. I haven't payed much attention to this game because I only own Nintendo junk, but I might have to try it out now.

@Secret_Tunnel Hmm, Microsoft fans had to wait as well though, right? So it's not just the usual Nintendo owners getting screwed. I think they must have had a timed exclusive with Sony or something. Didn't Guillaume say that these guys basically said it was almost certain the game would never be on the Wii U?! Or am I thinking of a different game...

@ZeroSony paid for a large chunk of the development of this game in return for some timed exclusivity. Polygon article.

Day 1. Looks like a fantastic Metroid-like.

I play a lot of good games on non-Nintendo platforms, but there are only a small handful that I think of as being the type that would specifically appeal to "Nintendo fans". This is one of them. Seriously, if you haven't had a chance to play this game yet and you have a Wii U, this one is for you. @deathly_hallows Well there you go.

Neat. I wouldn't buy this on any other platform due to the amount of Nintendo... well let's say 'fan service'. Even when it was in a Humble Bundle it seemed wrong. But I would pick it up sometime on the Wii U!

@InfinitywaveThere are nods to lots of video games, not just Nintendo stuff, although Metroid is it's biggest inspiration. This game will kick-ass on the Wii U though, if only because you can have the map open on the WUG while playing on the screen. I played this on Vita and it worked amazing as a handheld title (just like my favorite game of all time: Metroid 4), but after playing so many DS/3DS games it become aggravating when you have to keep pausing to switch to your map instead of having it present at all times!

@GameDadGrantIt's too hi-res to work on the 3DS. (although ideally I would have loved it to have been on the 3DS as well)

@deathly_hallowsDon't give me that excuse. Ubisoft put Rayman Origins on 3DS. It can be done. C'mon, it's a 2D platformer. 3DS can handle that business.

@GameDadGrantOh sure it could run the game, I just mean it's literally too hi-res, when the camera zooms out on the bigger sections your guy would be like 1 pixel tall, he would be just an indistinct block, and so would your enemies, and the combat is based upon being able to see your enemies telegraph their moves so you can time your combo attacks, it wouldn't work! Even on the Vita some of the tiny details are hard to see and we're taking about 5X the resolution of the 3DS (960x544 vs. 400x240).

@ZeroThat's what they told me last PAX East, yes. I'm glad they changed their minds! I have the PSN version which I bought only because Sony gave me a $10 credit that I needed to use right away or else I'd lose it. Still haven't touched it...

Yes! I was tempted to get this on PS3, but I'll gladly wait for the Wii U version now.

Great news. Obviously this game is influenced by Metroid and wears that influence on its sleeve but the way the game media slaps the Metroid label on any game with similar world design and item progression annoys me. The actual gameplay mechanics are nothing like Metroid and the game has tons of other influences as well, plus plenty of fresh design. Not blaming you, Zero, because everyone does it, but hopefully it fades away, like every open world game being called a GTA type game.

@deathly_hallowsOh, really? Didn't realize the camera zoomed out THAT much! Oh well. Still, no 3DS, no buy.

@Jargon I dunno though, I'd say the actual game mechanics have a ton in common with (Super) Metroid, if we're talking about the area designs, progression mechanics, and power-ups. The major difference to me is that at the core Metroid is a shooter and this is a brawler. That's a big difference, sure, but it's not like either of these games are solely focused on their combat. There are other "Metroidvania" games that I feel are less Metroidy. One thing I think Guacamelee! borrows from Metroid games that a lot of "Metroidvania" games miss is that its power-ups aren't just keys to open doors, but they really change the way you move and fight and such as well as opening up new areas. By the end of both you feel like a beast.

Finally gonna be on the system it belongs on. Thank fuck. It's always cute to see blatant homeages to Nintendo such as Chozo Statues and all that showing up on MS and Sony consoles. Always just adorable. Was close to buying the PC version awhile back but now I'm glad I can get it on Wii U!

@ZeroI think if you took the game's mechanics and put them into a purely linear game with one level after another, no one would even think to compare it to Metroid.
