Site FAQ (also, DONATIONS, BUGS and REQUESTS)

Welcome to Negative World. If you have any question, please read the following list and click to read an answer. If your question isn't in the list or if you have a suggestion, feel free to post a reply.

To be able to add more questions/answers to the list later, your participations to this thread will eventually be deleted to make room, after they've been answered.

Donations

Currently, the site doesn't bring in much money, and it costs about $85 a year to keep up. Not a whole lot, but the owner of this site isn't particularly rich, so every bit helps. Also, the web designer spent a lot of time and work to implement skins, navigation layout, make the site work quick and neat, and implement the options you asked him, all this instead of doing a paid professional site. The more you support the site, the better it'll run and the more potential its future will have.

Is anyone else getting random disappearing images? I'm having certain menu images and navigation images just not showing up. Specifically the create menu and the middle left navigation arrow won't show up unless I hover over them (which loads a different image).

I haven't noticed anything like that. But I'll let you know if I do.

Is there a chance that the MSX could be added as one of the consoles in the database? I wanted to add the original Metal Gear games (not the very different NES ones). The answer is most likely "no", but I still thought it was worth asking.

Why is there no Game 6 or 7 in the games database? I was looking up games for the links in the next podcast's show notes and tried looking up lucky number 7 only to get an error. It jumps from #5 to #8...

Game 5
Game 6
Game 7
Game 8

Probably lots of missing numbers. Whenever anything gets deleted it never really gets filled in again.

Why would games have gotten deleted? How mysterious.

There are currently 4.542 games in the database, and the latest game added is number 4,603. So it would seem that 61 games have gone missing...

@Mop it up

There were multiple entries for a) the cartridge and b) the VC, I believe. Stuff like that.

Uploaded a new avatar, but it doesn't seem to show up as my avatar when I select it.

@Guillaume

I see a white square.. I suppose that could be a joke in some circles, but its just BLANK.

Is it the right file format?
05/29/14, 20:53
@Mr_Mustache

Yeah, I tried different formats. PNG, GIF, JPEG, nothing works. The image shows up in the list of avatars, it just doesn't show up when I selec it as my avatar.

@Guillaume

Have you tried naming it something different? Was it the Mercedes one? If so, the name looks kinda long, I don't know if that makes a difference. Not sure why it wouldn't be working (if that was the one, I just selected it as mine and got a similar result), but I'm not a tech dude either. Something to think about?

@Mr_Mustache

Hey, I think renaming it did it! Thanks!
05/30/14, 05:58
@Guillaume

Say, thats a mighty fine looking avatar. If only there was a way to drive it in Mario Kart!

(Glad the renaming thing worked!)

@Guillaume How much are they paying you?

Show off. ;)

Hey, here's just a general question. We've had some controversial topics come up over the last year or so and I think it's been generally demoralizing around the forum. Just my take. (Maybe you guys see it as an important dialog or whatever.) Another forum that I go to had a solution to this - they created an optional subforum for controversial discussion. We could do something like that and make it optional to participate for people who are just coming here to talk about Nintendo.

Now, that's a big thing to ask for. Generally, I like the idea that Negative World doesn't have a bunch of stupid subforums. But maybe on this, it'd make sense. That way if a newcomer comes around, they don't have to encounter someone's stupid opinion right off the bat and get the wrong idea about this place.

It'd also require everyone who participates to make an active choice to participate, which might cut down on drive-by comments like the ones I sometimes make that I'm sure aren't helpful. It'd no longer be an issue of whether the discussion was appropriate for this forum or whether it's good for morale. It'd be about the actual topics.

Oh, and if we eventually do this, I move that we call it "Death Mountain". As in, "Take this discussion to Death Mountain. We were just talking about Kirby, not the Hobby Lobby court case."

Not a bad idea.

So the next time someone says something controversial/outright wrong such as...I dunno. 'Ocarina of Time is overrated' or some such rubbish, we can be all 'Take him to Death Mountain!'. Then Volvagia gets to snack on roast Texan.

I love it

In all seriousness, the idea is probably sound, but I don't know how easy it would be for Zero to do given the current site design. And if you open one subforum...then you're opening others.

I don't suppose a 'controversy' thread would suffice? (Although that just runs the risk of becoming 'New Tropes' again....) And if we're still worried about newcomers getting the wrong impression, then maybe restrict it to level -2? That way only people who have been here for a while and know how the place runs will see it.
07/04/14, 05:58
I think making it -2 is a good decision if it does end up happening. Most people who are -2 have been here for a while and know each other well enough to argue without hating the other person.
