Ubisoft's Watch Dogs announced for the Wii U

It may be a Sony day today, but there was some news for Nintendo fans as well. Ubisoft fired off a press release about their much-hyped game Watch Dogs. From the press release:

In Watch_Dogs, players will experience the realities of living in our fully connected society, where individuals and corporations are at risk of exposure by our ever-increasing reliance on networks and technology.

Players will assume the role of Aiden Pearce, a new type of vigilante who, with the help of his smartphone, will use his ability to hack into Chicago's central operating system (ctOS) and control almost every element of the city. Aiden will be able to tap into the city's omnipresent security cameras, download personal information to locate a target, control systems such as traffic lights or public transportation to stop a chase, and more. The city of Chicago is now the ultimate weapon.

CHICAGO STYLE BABY!

Also this:

Watch_Dogs will be available on PS4 at launch, along with its release on the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the Wii U™ system from Nintendo and Windows PC.

Of course, the question in my mind is; will the "current" gen versions be scaled down in some fashion? It really depends on whether the game is being built for the PS4 first and foremost, or the reverse. I suppose we shall have to wait and see!

I'll likely pick it up for Wii U. The gameplay demo looked pretty interesting and IF Ubisoft can use the Gamepad in the logical, non-shit ways that everyone can already see then this has a chance to be really good.

Removing the entire HUD from the main screen could really help this type of game. Even with it being so minimal already.

You guys missed the important part though.

I definitely need to see more before I engage in this game....

not convinced in the slightest. I want to know if the concept proves itself. Intrigued but not convinced.

@Zero You mean it's gonna have hot peppers and relish and tomatoes and mustard on it?

I was doing the tourist thing in Chicago a couple years ago, walked around a corner and gave out a bit of a girly shriek as I found myself confronted with a gigantic eyeball. The natives behind me giggled, but goodnaturedly. I wonder if that giant eyeball will be in this game. Or the bean. Or the terrifying traffic at 5:45 pm.

Anyway, I'm very glad to see this coming to the Wii U, though I will not be partaking. If a friend gets it, though, I may have him fire it up long enough for me to get revenge on that sculpture.

Exciting news. I mean, who knows if the game will actually be any good? But at least it's a no joke AAA third party game that's coming out (presumably) at the same time as everyone else's version.

If not, I demand Ubi push back the release dates for everybody.

@kriswright

Push back like Chicago Cubs winning the World Series style?

"computer entertainment system"
"video game and entertainment system"
"system"

huh.

Good news on Watch Dogs though!! Let the pendulum swing back, baby!

@VickiL Oh yeah the evil eyeball, that's right by where Shirley and I would meet up downtown a lot. Or was, it may be gone now.

@kriswright That'd be funny if Ubisoft delayed the PS4 version away from launch just to get the Wii U version finished...

No, man. No. Chicago Style unites through griefing.

@VickiL
Gigantic eyeball?! I don't recall ever encountering that...

Was it a Beholder?

Hate Ubisoft, but this is...an olive branch.

@Deerock69

It'd be nice if they gave the Wii U the first demo for this game as well. I know it's not much, but still, you never know...the day may come when they'll need their Wii U games to sell well, and I'd try to win back as much good will as I could. They really messed up with Rayman, mostly the timing of it.

@TheBigG753

I'd be happy with A demo. I couldn't care less if the other consoles got it, too.

That new video today actually underwhelmed me, and the Wii U version won't even look like that or run that well. Still, the PS4 version might not look THAT much better. It IS a cross generational title however.

Good. Let's just hope it's a good version of the game because I won't be getting it on PC given Ubisoft's weird PC shit, won't be getting a PS4 at launch, and certainly won't be getting a 720.

I don't like the idea of having no HUD on screen. Maybe if they did it in the way Dead Space does it I'd be okay with it, but I wouldn't want to have to look down at my controller's screen in order to tell how much health or ammo I have left.

Never had a DS/3DS, huh? :p

PS4 version doesn't look very different than the rest, but it does at least make it more likely the Wii U release will use better textures than 360/PS3.

This always looked like a perfect game for some funky GamePad use. Looking forward to it!

They tried to do this game Detroit-style, but when Ubisoft reps came to the city to do research, they were shot on sight.

Detroit is the ultimate weapon; the most dangerous city in the States. But if the game were set in Detroit, the gameplay would have to be less stealth/action and more just straight-up Contra.

I am looking forward to see what this game becomes. To be honest, I am not liking teh gameplay. Good on WIi U to get this game, though. I dont see a huge graphical leap between ps3 to ps4 so far, so i am interested to see how well this game looks on Wii U.
