@Xbob42 Hmm... is getting stuff early on the eShop through backing Kickstarters a thing though?! I'd think Nintendo would be all uber strict about stuff like that.

No idea, actually. Does seem like something Nintendo wouldn't like for... some reason.

About an hour in, it seems like everything I wanted it to be. Very awesome.

Yeah, I was very surprised to get the email earlier about it being available. I thought Nintendo would force us to keep waiting until they were ready to officially release it as an eshop title as we heard how nice the game was from Steam users. This bodes well for the future.

This is the best "modern retro" game I've ever played. Absolutely loving it. So glad I backed this game.

Playing the Wii U version, by the way.

Yeah. This might be the best thing I've backed on Kickstarter yet. I really enjoyed the first act of Broken Age and the licensed Pinball Arcade tables as well, but this is so instantly enjoyable. I hope Yacht Club Games thrives. I already want them to partner with Nintendo on something... like a Kid Icarus revival, perhaps?

I'll be buying it when I get home later today. I'm anxious to play it.

WTF how do you all have it on Nintendo platforms already?! I'm still getting the "coming soon" thingy!

Those who contributed through KickStarter got it a day early.

Meanwhile, in Europe...

Got my key last night, downloaded it (and an update) this morning. I'll be trying it out tonight. Woo!

For you Wii U owners, how does this game look on your TV? The game looks fantastic on the 3DS screen, and the stereoscopic 3D is quite good, too. I'm imagining the chunky, 2D visuals of this game looking...I dunno...chunky and pixelated on a modern TV screen. Is it that way? Does it look decent? All these pixels and "old-school" art look sharp on a comparatively small 3DS screen. But having this blown up on a huge TV would make me think it would just be...like...blown out and not as sharp?

I'm finding it's difficult to really word how I'm imagining things. Basically, does the game look good on Wii U?

It looks great on Wii U.

I think I'm gonna' double dip on the 3DS version though. I want to see how it looks in 3D.

The game looks great on Wii U. Sure, they went with a pixellated style, but they're well-defined pixels. *shrugs*

I like well-defined pixels.

I imagine they made the game and all the assets with the highest resolution screens in mind first and then scaled that down to the smaller ones with relative ease thanks in part to the art style. If they'd made the 3DS version first and then just upscaled it to fit HD TV sets and monitors that would probably have looked like crap, but I'm not worried about the game looking any less than great on my Wii U. I just hope I get to play the damn game soon!

I still don't know which platform to buy on... Wii U or 3DS... my big TV and gamepad... stereoscopic 3D and portability... hmm....

Might have to literally flip a coin.

Some people on neogaf and other places are already complaining the game is overrated because it's "too easy". Just remember when playing it that you can basically choose to make it more difficult for yourself by destroying the checkpoints, if that's what you're into. There can be 5 in a single level, so go ahead and destroy them all, or leave the mid-point and pre-boss ones intact. It's your choice.

@GameDadGrant It looks awesome on a big TV. If you played Mega Man 9 or basically any NES game, it looks like that. You still have the Gamepad too if you don't like the big screen.

I love it. It really feels like "what if they made an NES game today"?

Personally I prefer these retro games on a big screen like this. It just looks so much cleaner to me. And you can also blast them out of your sound system (or Gamepad headphones).

Oh it's out today isn't it.

Buying.

@Guillaume That's the only thing I've felt thus far, that maybe it's a bit too easy (especially with the upgrades and stuff) but I've died probably 4 or 5 times so far. There seem to be plenty of ways to make the game harder on yourself though, especially if you want to go for all the Feats, which is what the hardcore gamers are probably going to wind up doing.

And I'm sure the 'easy' criticism on Gaf is probably from people who can beat Mega Man 3 in 20 minutes anyway.

I was worried this game would be too hard for me, I beat games like Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden in my youth but I work full time and then some now, I'm pleased with the level of difficulty, it's challenging but not impossible. And there's no time limit so you can explore and look for secrets, it it was like Mutant Mudds and had an arbitrary timer it would have ruined the game for me.
