This May, one game will define MULTIPLAYER FUN on Wii U. That game, is Mario Kart 8!


Mario Kart has been a Nintendo staple since it's SNES debut over two decades ago. Only two Nintendo products neglected to have an entry and each entry that has existed is a charming title in someone's eyes. Entries like Double Dash on Gamecube helped push the boundaries of creativity and uniqueness, while more recent titles have continued to refine a core experience. Mario Kart 8 seeks to continue that trend with it's jaw-dropping HD visuals, Anti-gravity racing, and incredibly well-designed tracks.


With all the characters known, the deep customization possibilities to each individual racer, the classic 32-total track count... there's so much to discuss and share and debate. Reviews are just coming in now and while I'll post a few below but they're not all gushing with pride. User Stephen recently made a thread aiming to have a more comprehensive list of reviews available. So... The coin in the item roulette, most likely if I'm in 1st I have my 10 coins.

And apparently the characters are random unlocks, so I guess I have to hope that I get a good character and not baby rosalina or aluminium filler chars #1-2

Loving this game. It's probably the prettiest game I've ever played. Might be too soon to call it, but this might surpass Double Dash for me.

Gonna have to experiment with different vehicle parts. What do you guys tend to focus on for stats? And preferences?

I'm generally middle-of-the-road but I give the edge to speed and ensure handling doesn't drop below half.

Handling and acceleration. Once you get to the front, speed is negligible. That's when staying on the road (and getting quick bursts of speed off of power slides) is key.

I've been trying all day to 3 star Flower Cup on 150cc and I fucking hate this game now.

Okay, just did it, back to love...

It doesn't happen often, but several times I would try an pull an item to block a projectile, and while I could've sworn I pulled it in time, I take the hit and then after the recovery animation my character throws the item forward. Such bullshit.

@RAW the item timing seems to have been messed with, I'm trying to relearn placing a peel at an item box while activating to get another item.

It's fitting that Pink Gold Peach is going to be the last character I unlock.

I'm almost tempted to not play any more GPs so that she remains forever unusable in my game

Just played through Mushroom, Flower, Star, Special, and Shell Cups in the 50cc GP. Got 3 stars on all of them except for the Flower Cup, because I got Blue Shell'd just before the finish line during one of the races.

Unlocked Ludwig, Roy, and Toadette so far, and some random parts for the vehicles.

True story, you can also use a mushroom to boost away from a blue shell (I've done it twice).

Is it just 60 points for three stars? I had 57 on the Mushroom Cup and got 2 stars, so I'm assuming it's based on points purely (unlike the Wii version, which I have no clue what that's based on...I can get first place four times and still get an A instead of a star).

Mario Kart 8 arrived at my door and is in my care. My Wii U, however, is still in Nintendo's hands for repair. Life just isn't fair.

I'm loving the game so far. Has anyone been able to get onto Club Nintendo? All day I've been getting a message about high traffic causing login problems. I wouldn't be surprised if they sold more Wii U systems today than any day since launch day.
