This May, one game will define MULTIPLAYER FUN on Wii U. That game, is Mario Kart 8!


Mario Kart has been a Nintendo staple since it's SNES debut over two decades ago. Only two Nintendo products neglected to have an entry and each entry that has existed is a charming title in someone's eyes. Entries like Double Dash on Gamecube helped push the boundaries of creativity and uniqueness, while more recent titles have continued to refine a core experience. Mario Kart 8 seeks to continue that trend with it's jaw-dropping HD visuals, Anti-gravity racing, and incredibly well-designed tracks.


With all the characters known, the deep customization possibilities to each individual racer, the classic 32-total track count... there's so much to discuss and share and debate. Reviews are just coming in now and while I'll post a few below but they're not all gushing with pride. User Stephen recently made a thread aiming to have a more comprehensive list of reviews available. So... Only had time to do 2 cups last night and this morning. I found the flower cup Toad track to be surprisingly fast and fun, and then the Shy Guy Falls were jaw-dropping.

I love that they fixed a beef I had with last year's E3 demo: it didn't feel different when you raced on walls and ceilings. But just by having the camera slightly askew, they managed to make it just disorienting and thrilling enough.

I've heard that if you get 3 stars in 150cc, it automatically gives you three stars in 50cc and 100cc. That way you don't have to grind to unlock all the races in each level.

Played a bunch earlier and thoroughly enjoyed it. The game plays like a dream on the pro controller.

Jealous of you people who already have it.

I think I can get away from work to go pick it up at 11. But then the kids have an end of school year pic nic at Noon. Then I have to get the girl to a sleep over and the boy to a little league game, and then we're probably going to head out of town...

Meaning I might have a chance to play the thing on Sunday night.

Oh well. First World problems and all that. Played plenty of Sonic All Star Racing Transformed last night to tide me over.

About to go on a fifteen+ mile bike ride... realized it's Friday and Gamestop is open at 10am, not 11.... so I'm changing my route and heading to Gamestop on the trip back. Biking for Mario Kart... now that's dedication!

Anyone know how the Friends tab in Mario Kart TV works? My list is empty. Does a clip have to be uploaded to YouTube to appear in-game?

Holy shit this game is ridiculously good looking. It's funny how people claim Nintendo is a gen behind yet this game is absolutely stunning.

I uploaded my first ever race with the finished copy of the game...

Put in a little more time on 150cc, and it's pure Mario Kart all right. That's a great thing!

To follow up with what Earendil said...

This is absolutely correct as far as I can tell. I didn't get three stars in 150cc Shell Cup, but it does give me credit for having won the Shell Cup.

I decided to upload one of my early races to Youtube to try it out and it's taking forever. I doubt I'll use that much. The game is incredible though.

Mine took about 3 minutes to upload... not ideal but for memorable races it's not too shabby. Plus it uploads in 720p!

Good to know. I raced first in 50 cc. Now the next cup in 100cc. And... I will probably never go back.
