A simple question and I'm sure we've had this asked already... but now that 40 minutes of glorious Smash Bros. coverage has just ended... I wanna know how it may affect your decisions.

Please if you would, vote honestly and instead of stopping there, post your opinion and then state whether or not the Nintendo Direct had an effect on your decision. I could have added this to the poll options but I didn't want to muddy it up with four near duplicates.

I will go on record easily that I will be getting both versions... and the Direct only seemed to hype me more... though it solidified my desire to get the 3DS version as well. The time-gap between the two versions as well as the great modes and content make it a deal in my book.

@kriswright

Well...maybe Babysitting Mama....!

Don't worry about getting in the car, you can just download Tekken from the eShop...

We need the gaming media to ask Nintendo and sakurai how they plan to protect against the lack of surprise and interest in the Wii u version with it sharing the roster and all.

That's what I'm thinking. How is the Wii U version not going to look underwhelming when it comes out? It's the same game in HD but with different stages? There has to be more of a hook there, right? (I say this from the perspective of the 3DS owner who hasn't bought a Wii U yet - for that person, what's the draw?)

I feel like if the 3DS version came out second, that wouldn't seem as underwhelming because at least there you get the novelty of Smash on the go and 3D.

I feel like this is going to probably be a game that's loved by a small group of people, but it's not going to convince people to get a Wii U. It actually reminds me a lot of what happened with 3D World after 3D Land came out. Time will tell, I suppose.

I agree.

I never even thought of that angle. That's such bull. Only good answer is characters added into Wii U version first, which come out later for free on 3DS, or something, but that's not a very elegant solution either cuz then 3DS owners will whine.

I'm my heart it's the only downside to this whole double-bubble situation. It'd be the same question if the systems and timing were reversed too. It's THE ultimate question in some regards since the whole thing was announced. I'm sure the Wii U will have it's own awesome mode like the 3DS version but the characters, a significant portion of the game, will be all the same. Even with different stages throughout, it'll be easy to feel let down in the character unlocking department as it's one of the franchises best surprises... unlocking that surprise character.

I didn't think of this until now, but I use the C-stick a lot when playing Melee and Brawl. I'll probably miss that on 3DS. I wonder if it'll get Circle Pad Pro support. Guess I'd have to buy one then.

I agree. I have a 3DS and not a Wii U. I can't imagine Smash for Wii U will be attractive enough for me to buy a Wii U after I've already played it on 3DS. Smash is what was supposed to finally sell Wii Us, but by putting it on 3DS first they've diminished its power.

I watched the Direct - It was fantastic and by the time I get the Wii U version around Christmas time, I would have forgotten about most of all the secret stuff that they mentioned. I'm going on media blackout from here on out..

I have too many games on backlog/not enough time/cash to own essentially the same game twice just with some different stages put in. I enjoy fighters on a console more then a portable as well as I tend to use the 3DS for RPG's/puzzles like Fire Emblem/Professor Layton. When a Wii U player plays a 3DS player do they get to play a stage from either console?

Because it's the same game - I'm not sure how well the Wii U version will do once the 3DS version is out.. A lot of us here seem to be buying both but we are considered the 'few'.. This could be a brilliant move by the big N or a shot in the head..

Both... just as they knew I would when they decided to space the releases.

I'm pleased that they added a singleplayer mode in the 3DS version since I probably won't be doing much local play on it... if any. I'll think of the 3DS version as training.

There's also those mystery connectivity features he teased...

@Jargon What's n00b about being able to move in one direction in mid-air while attacking in another?

@DapperDave
Worded perfectly. And there it is.

One other solution I imagine is SERIOUS aggressive advertising for Smash.

Or the 3DS game really really manages to find a way to intentionally hook you and getting you to buy the Wii U version. A fucking ad, who knows. Or promises of being able to level up characters or something. Dunno. Dunno how this is supposed to help the Wii U version, the one that needs help.

I think the obvious solution would simply be to add more characters for the Wii U version. For whatever reason, Sakurai just doesn't seem to want to do that.

Of course, I'm aware balancing everything is not as simple as it sounds, but still...

I basically see it as a Ground Zeroes/Phantom Pain situation. Start off with the little game to get a taste of what's coming, and then have your socks blown off by the real deal.

@Secret_Tunnel
But aside from visuals, sound, and controller it is the exact same game minus the maps.

The only thing that can actually blow minds are the visuals and sound. But don't most people not give a damn about that? Not that I agree at all...

@nate38

I'm just razzing, I use it for the same reason. I set it to just A and direction all the time though rather than smash.

@carlosrox

I think being able to play the game on a TV is pretty huge. Playing on 3DS isn't nearly the same thing.

Here's hoping there's more to the Wii U version than just that though-- I'm pretty sure Sakurai has said there won't be any sort of Subspace Emissary sort of thing, but there's gotta be something.
04/10/14, 15:30
@TriforceBun

I imagine the reason will be the functionality of connection between the two versions, and something we don't know about yet.
04/10/14, 17:28
I really hope that they include some way to play the 3ds stages on the wii u version if you own both.
