A simple question and I'm sure we've had this asked already... but now that 40 minutes of glorious Smash Bros. coverage has just ended... I wanna know how it may affect your decisions.

Please if you would, vote honestly and instead of stopping there, post your opinion and then state whether or not the Nintendo Direct had an effect on your decision. I could have added this to the poll options but I didn't want to muddy it up with four near duplicates.

I will go on record easily that I will be getting both versions... and the Direct only seemed to hype me more... though it solidified my desire to get the 3DS version as well. The time-gap between the two versions as well as the great modes and content make it a deal in my book.

I was originally going to be content with just the Wii U version, and maybe grab the 3DS one down the road, but they had to go and ruin that plan by releasing the 3DS version first!

So now I'll definitely be getting both of them

I chose both because I'll still be getting both at some point, just not sure when.

I think it's a really bad idea to release the 3DS version first, I don't expect the Wii U version to sell well now. I guess we'll see how Mario Kart 8 sells and if people are still willing to give Wii U a chance.

@Mop it up

I don't expect the 3DS one to hurt sales for the Wii U one. Anyone who is willing to buy a Wii U for a smash game wont be swayed by a 3DS title, and if we're just talking the game sales itself, people who buy the 3DS one might be 'finished' with it by the Wii U release. There's also the connectivity in play and the various differences in both versions anyway, one of them being HD and a mode just for the hardcore tourney people.

As for convincing people to buy a Wii U in general because of Smash, I guess it's hard to say either way but my personal belief is that they still will, particularly when we hear an official date.

Urrgh...I definitely wouldn't have bothered with the 3DS version if they had a simultaneous release. But if my friends break down and get it, I guess I'll have to...

@nate38

There's two friends in this thread who already are! A third even but just not necessarily by launch.

The only person I know locally who might pick up the 3DS version (or would want to as I don't know many gamers locally anymore) would be my girlfriend and GameDadGrant I would presume. Needless to say, it'll be worth it however hard or easy it is to gather friends.

@DrFinkelstein I hope you're right, but I have my doubts. The 3DS game might be "enough" for most people, like how NSMB2 was enough and sold a lot better than NSMBU, and that's probably true for 3D Land and 3D World also. And Mario Kart 7 may have the same effect on Mario Kart 8. Time will tell, but releasing the Wii U game first is a better idea no matter what. Oh well, the bad decisions never end for Nintendo...

Wii U
04/09/14, 03:12
Wii U for sure and maybe for the 3DS.
04/09/14, 03:21
Both!

Any other answer is unacceptable. They both look fantastic.
04/09/14, 03:25
Wii U only.
04/09/14, 03:30
Right now, Wii U. I really only play my 3DS at home. I don't know if I'd want to play the handheld when I have the console. Better controls, HD, probably better online...kind of a no brainer to me.
04/09/14, 03:53
Yea looks like I'm getting both. Nintendo is so sneaky.
04/09/14, 03:57
Hard to say. I don't own a Wii U yet so an early 3DS version will be really tempting. Definitely picking up the Wii U version at some point though.

You Wii U-only owners are going to have a hard time resisting getting the 3DS version when it releases, believe me…

That said, I really wish the release dates were switched somehow. Nintendo seems to be shooting itself in the Wii U foot with a 3DS bullet, as usual.

Both versions look great, but I can't help but feel the hype will be deflated when I finally get the console version and will already have used all the characters for months by then.

Both. Putting the 3DS version months before the Wii U was an evil move.

The direct sold the 3ds version to me and I was already gonna get the Wii U version. They seem different enough to make the purchase warranted.

I've been planning to get both from the start. I want to be able to play all of the stages and modes and I like the portability. There will soon be a day that I can play Smash Bros almost anywhere. That's beautiful thing.

Both, digital day one downloads.

@TriforceBun
Absolutely everything you said.
04/09/14, 05:39
I haven't watched the Direct, but I'm probably the only person here who isn't interested in Smash Bros., so I voted neither. I realized after Brawl that I'm just not into fighting games anymore.
