Rayman Legends Discussion (Nintendo Wii U) [game]

Rayman Legends on the Wii U
8.93/10 from 8 user ratings

Welcome to the official discussion thread for Rayman Legends on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

I didn't see a dedicated thread for Rayman Legends, so I thought I'd make one! I've also added it to the Database for anyone who's interested. I was having difficulty adding a video though, so if anyone could help with that, I'd appreciate it!

I'm really struck by how beautiful the game looks. Apparently Rayman isn't even a 3D model. They said in an IGN video that it's just how they've used lighting in the game to give Rayman and his buddies more color. It looks like a freaking painting in motion to me.

So far, it looks like Legends uses the Gamepad in some really cool ways. I'm curious to see how it will work as a single player game. Ubisoft has not announced whether or not the game will retain any online functionality.

Agreed. I can just imagine the Rayman devs sitting down with the business management team...

Management: So how are thing progressing with Rayman?

Developer1: Well, we've busted our asses but its turning out to be a great sequel.

Management: Ted has run some numbers and made this slick Excel spreadsheet. It looks like we should sell the crap out of this game....how easy is it to port this game from Wii U to 360 and PS3?

Developer2: Well, uhh...in theory it shouldn't be too hard since we have a number of porting tools already...

Management: Great, then its settled! We'll delay the game, pack in some extra content, and release closer to the holidays season.

*management leaves room*

Developer1: Nintendo fans are going to go ape-shit...

Developer2: Shit...I want to see my wife and kids...

Hmm, well JKR, we'll have to just agree to disagree.

I'd be interested to know how many games get virtually finished and just sit there waiting to be released because the publisher doesn't think the schedule allows for it. For me, at the end of the day, the game is the game, and I think it looks spectacular, and I hope we get more of this kind of game in the future.

I also say this knowing I can't get it at launch :(. Crappy timing.

I was so hyped after playing the first demo but honestly I just feel nothing for this game now. The delay made me a bit mad, but the length of the delay killed all hype. I'm sure it's great but there are so many other games I got lined up right now I just don't feel compelled to pick this up. I'll delay my purchase 7 months, that way it's fair to give other developers money too! :p

That's definitely a good point - I can totally see this game not being high enough in priority in the war over your dollars. I certainly don't think I can get it right away, especially since I'm moving out. It'd be hard to justify to anyone why I need to rush out and buy a new $60 game when I have a ton of games to play through already, with looming rent payments coming up.

@PogueSquadron

I understand, and on a lot of points I agree with you, don't get me wrong. The only real disagreement I think we have is my desire (foolish as it might be, I'm not denying it might be) to keep to my guns (or keep to my dollars I guess) because I just don't like this particular business move Ubisoft made. I ALSO would like to get more of this type of game, and obviously the way we do that is to buy it. Alas, for me "supporting good, moral business" takes precedence over desire for more games. I just can't get behind breaking promises to a ton of people just so you can make a few extra bucks. Promises mean something to me, especially when it's a business.

Hopefully once finances even out you can let me know how the game is! I hope it's as great as people seem to be saying it is, and the developers get a lot of kudos for all their hard work.

Maybe at some point you can pick it up pre-owned. At least that way, Ubi wouldn't get any of your money and you could still enjoy the game!

I'd say finances are 'even,' but it's hard to justify the purchase for the game when Backlaugust has become a year round affair. I have to be pretty smitten over a game to drop $60 on it these days.

@PogueSquadron

I hear that. Pikmin 3 was the first full price game I bought in a long while, and even that was through Gamefly with a coupon and cheaper than $60. There's just too many games already on the shelf to be played, plus that pesky "real life" that takes up so much budget. :)

I'll probably rent Rayman eventually to at least get to try it, but I don't want to take it away from other Gameflyers at launch because I can wait. So it will be a while, maybe next year when we hit another springtime drought. Of course, I'll be working on the new house so much that I have no idea how I'll get time for games for a while! Might need to consider taking the Gamefly subscription out of the budget for a while...

Sounds good dude.

I'm glad to see that they've made use of the delay though. With the fan-favorite Origins stages, the game boasts a whopping 120-something levels, plus the Challenge Mode, plus other little things like the soccer minigame. Definitely can't wait to see it on my new TV :)

Just got the e-mail from Amazon that my copy is on the way! Can't wait for when I get back home Tuesday!!

Copy of Rayman Legends hath arrived. Anyone else starting it tonight?

This game is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO fun. The Murphy parts are kinda whatever on the PS3, I don't know how they are in the Wii U, but the game is still stellar. I'll definitely review it here on the site when I finish it.

I did hear that on the Wii U when you play as Murphy single player you can't control Rayman. If true that's pretty bad, doesn't happen on the other systems.

@GelatinousEncore

It did in the demo but it didn't cause me any trouble in those levels. I just tried the demo on the Vita and it does the same on there. Being able to control Murphy that fast seems like a plus to me though. I saw a video of another level where it was controlled with the analog stick and it looked pretty bad at times...

@GelatinousEncore

No PS3 reviews on NW

Then I won't review it here I guess

Oh I have great news to report!!

My EB Games is sold out of Rayman Legends on Wii U while the other versions collect dust!

They sold out of ALL ONE FUCKING COPIES!!!

Nice conspiracy assholes.

Ps. I really appreciate all the people who helped Nintendo get horse fucked and bought another version of the game. That'll help Nintendo out.

@carlosrox

How many copies of the other systems' game did they have?
09/04/13, 03:38
@TriforceBun
Dunno, but she sure made it sound like they had a decent amount.

Oh and that location wasn't the only one that got ONE copy. She told me others got the same. And it seems all Wii U versions are sold out. So I guess 5 people in this city got this game today.

So I played this earlier, been half asleep all day so I didn't play very far. Initial impressions about the visuals are... I'm not really sure. I dunno if I like the new art direction as much as the old one now that I see it up close, but that may have to do with the fact that the animations seem... choppy, sometimes. Like, it'll never drop below 60FPS no matter what, but if Rayman turns around quickly, it looks like he's got half the frames of animation as he should have, which is weird since as I was playing Rayman Origins not 5 minutes previous he did that just fine and silky smooth in the previous title.

Also disappointed that they still haven't included proper button prompts. In fact, it feels like the exact same game (in terms of menus and such) where the thumbstick is what works by default and you have to set it to the D-Pad manually, which is just fucking weird for a 2D platformer in 2013. You get a weird ass button prompt icon that is in plain text like [1 - A] meaning hit that key or the A button! It's lazy lazy lazy in that regard like the first was.

That said, game seems like plenty of fun, but what's with all this Murfy bullshit? Is this gimmick gonna be a big deal the whole game? It seems kinda stupid.
09/04/13, 03:57
@carlosrox Since I'm part of Nintendo and make money from their game sales it makes sense I'd want to help them out, rather than find the cheaper most convenient purchase for myself.

But I would've bought it on Wii U if I had one.

@Xbob42
Sounds like you're playing it on a platform it wasn't meant for. Wonder why that is.
