Any minute now.

@-JKR-

Hmm, I agree that third-parties have been real jerks lately, but I don't think the situation is THAT dire. There always seem to be a select few who bring out some strong, quality exclusives from time to time--in this case, Bayonetta 2 and Lego City Undercover come to mind. It'd be nice to have a little third-party padding throughout the lifetime of the system, and good sales would indeed help that. Plus, it'd take Nintendo out of the industry's crosshairs for a little while with better sales, as I'm sure we're all tired of the doom and gloom talk.

Anyway, Direct is about to start! Hope to see something cool...I'd be up for some Pikmin 3 DLC! And dare I say...EarthBound-related stuff? I did have an EarthBound/Mother 3 dream last night...

Maybe there will be some more light shed on those new Sonic the Hedgehog games? Maybe some kind of connectivity between the two?

Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright coming WEST! YESSSS!!!!
08/07/13, 17:16
I'm off to download Animal Crossing Plaza! Woo

Layton/Phoenix, that's how you end a Direct!

Nice to see that indie sizzle reel and some HD animal crossing fun. Wonderful 101 stream this Friday to look forward to too.

Oh man, maybe one day... But probably not.

I seriously thought this was never coming. For me, it was the best news from the Direct!

I like the cracks between worlds feature in LTTP 2 and the talk of an evil Triforce. All very neat.

Is Animal Crossing Plaza live in the States? Doesn't seem to be in the Wii U shop here in the UK yet.

That's an impressive lineup of PC/mobile indie titles.

Knytt Underground, Q.U.B.E. & Squids are freakin' awesome.

So Hungry looks like a hardcore ripoff of Don't Starve.

Aha, if you can't find Animal Crossing Plaza in the eShop, go to the new Miiverse community and click More Info.

Yeah, it's nice that it looks like we will be getting new overworld areas in LTTP afterall... the Dark World appears to be different, which is what I suspected they might be doing.
08/07/13, 18:18
Yeah, it'd be completely ridiculous and more than a bit lazy for them to just copy A Link to the Past's overworld entirely. Glad we're getting new stuff.

Still killer app, confirmed. :p

Posted the official press release into a news thread for a summary of today's announcements!

Thanks, Royo. I was behind on the details!

Need to watch the direct still, but a lot of good came from it I see. <3

@New Forms - That sizzle reel... so good.

Those games are all speaking my language. And did I just see Giana Sisters? I didn't even realize...

There's a strange irony seeing an iteration of that game on a Ninty system, lol. Watched a vid of it though, looks great, like "I might have to buy this" great.

<---- sucker for platformers

@Dynablade

Yeah, I'm sooo excited that Nintendo is embracing indies.

Quite frankly, when I think of all of my favorite games of the past year, 99% of them are little indie titles that cost no more than $20 each.

With Nintendo, Sony and now MS all announcing self-publishing for indies, I'm confident that the scene is going to simply explode onto consoles. It's gonna be so freakin' awesome!

Did we not just live through the Wii generation? When, with the Wii being far and away the industry leader in sales beating out the other two consoles COMBINED, did the doom/gloom stop? Never. Never did it stop. And when did the 3rd parties flock to be on board with great AAA hits? "Oh, the system wasn't powerful enough." Or whatever excuse. It's ALWAYS whatever excuse. This is what the media does, and if the Wii U did better than the PS2 it wouldn't stop. Nintendo would still be doomed in their eyes, because of horsepower, or lack of achievements, or that they don't have Call of God of War 7, or whatever.

You're living in a fantasy land, man (and I don't mean that in a bad way, I'm just saying it's fantasy to believe the media is ever going to quit this nonsense they do). Nintendo's success/failure/changing-into-a-company-that-only-sells-delicious-hotdogs is not going to change the media doom and gloom. The doom and gloom articles get hits, and that is what the media wants. Just ignore them, they're trolls.

Nintendo is not doomed. They need more games for their console, and if they release killer apps and don't drop the price, the system is still going to sell well. Not Wii-well, because Wii-well was an insane freak of nature. But WELL. Price drop or no. Would a price drop boost sales temporarily even without games? Sure, but why are we playing the short term game? The short term game is for Dot-Com-Bubble-Burst companies, you play for the long haul.

Right, anyways, the Nintendo Direct was fine. Nothing that really floored me, but it's nice to know for sure Prof vs. Wright will definitely be hitting US shores I guess. Also the AC characters walking around in HD were VERY PRETTY. Made me want more, ha ha.

@Infinitywave This reminds me of the late GameCube years when Nintendo was putting Mario into everything, including some snowboarding game and an NBA title...
